  1. probably but again you'd have to change a few things over including the y-pipe. The 97 had single port and the early 2.2's had dual port!
  2. Really any 2.2 will work you just might have to change a few things over etc. You could probably find a cheap replacement for that in a junk yard somewhere. Check craigslist
  3. They really won't fit. The dimensions and shape is very different. Whats wrong with your Impreza?
  4. It might be good if you could get a picture and post it on here so that we can see exactly what damage it did. Oh and welcome to the forum!
  5. I definitely wish you luck! Wow, 3 years! It's good that you've been able to continue fighting though, hopefully it works out!
  6. I was just throwing that 98% off the top of my head so calm down! I was just explaining all of the experience I've had(read my previous post!)I love my 2.5 for the power, It goes great but my car is just added on to the list of the 2.5's that I've seen/worked on that have bad or leaking HG's. That's all I was stating! And thanks to those who back me up on the 2.2's:)
  7. I put an EA82 5 spd d/r in my EA81 and I didn't have to put any spacer?!
  8. Man that's sad! I'm sorry for your loss! I have a real hatred for drunk drivers and sadly there are a few in my own family:-\This is why I choose not to drink at all, I don't want to end up like the rest of them:(
  9. Those are good cars. The 98 Impreza OBS came with the 2.2 engine and even though it was interference it was still a good car. My mother actually has one and loves it. Besides changing the oil she has only had to replace the struts and a knock sensor. They also get great gas mileage
  10. The best place to post for a newbie is the meet and greet section
  11. I completely understand that but it doesn't even have room for one...that's not much room:-\
  12. Yeah not even a shed! You should keep looking!
  13. Yes I believe it should be straight. If you can straighten it, then it should work. I would try that before replacing it. And then replace the u-joint!
  14. So what you need to do is just get another one of these tailshaft housings and bolt it on! And then fix that shifter cable, and the drive shaft and you'd be good to go!
  15. I dunno I just have worked on way too many that have been leaking, and then when I thought...It will be ok I'll take care of mine and it will be fine, I was disappointed and within 6months of purchase the HG's are leaking! Then I looked at a 2002 OBW for my grandparents and it was mint! Low miles no damage beautiful inside and out, clean engine etc. And now about a year after they bought it, the HG's are leaking!, So add those to the ones I've worked on and that's a lot of 2.5's that the HG's are going or gone bad. Now as for the 2.2's I have worked on a lot more of them and only seen one that the HG's were leaking and that's because it was overheated 3 times by an old lady who didn't know any better! So I'm just voicing my opinion I'm not trying to be an rump roast So please don't take it that way. I believe every word you've said I'm just going off of my own experience and what I've heard from most people.
  16. I certainly agree that a 2.2 isn't bullet proof but I was just pointing out the fact that most of the time the 2.2 longevity is better than the 2.5. Yes 2.2's do lose HG's but 98% of 2.5's lose headgaskets. Yes you can fix them and probably have better luck with them after but it's just the principle that at 50-75,000 miles you will have to replace the HG's on your 2.5 but Most 2.2's will last at least until 150,000 miles if not the life of the motor.
  17. Cool! Is that what you were looking for?
  18. The only reason I know about it is because I had a friend that bought something and never received the product. So he took the guy to small claims court. The guy never showed up to court....3TIMES! All the guy ever got was a slap on the wrist and told he had to come to court. This went on and on just because this guy wasn't cooperating. So it was the initial small fees but then the several days off work and the gas to go to the court house etc. But all this could be avoided if people would just do what they are supposed to! And yes it will cost the Ins. comp. time and money as well but I'm quite sure they have more of it then the little person that is fighting them. Good luck to both of you with the fight I hope that it comes out in your favor!!
  19. Should. They look like the same body style. the whole front end is the same as any other EA81...Hatch, Brat, wagon etc.
  20. You can find wrecked WRx's and STI's. If you wanted to go that route the motor and harness could be had for a lot less than you stated. Then you would just have to combine harnesses to fit. They really bolt right in but the wiring is the only "hard" part.
  21. The best year is a 96 5spd. They came with the EJ22 instead of the EJ25. The EJ22 are a much more reliable and long lasting motor. No real head gasket problems
  22. I believe that that was the year that the body style changed for the Legacy and when it did they went to 2.5 for all models
