I have a friend that did a similar turbo swap on the same engine. He used a td04, and 06 WRX intercooler as well. but it's mostly bolt on stuff, and a few hoses etc. Looks good!

EA transmissions never cam in 4.44. The EJ auto transmission in Forester and Outbacks as well as 5spd turbo Foresters, came in 4.44. Unless someone did a swap already, if it's attached to a 4spd, its either a 2wd 5spd trans, or a 4wd 4spd.

We're getting the same crap here right now

I did the same as Jono, many years ago when I had my Brat. Great results. I just drilled new holes for the 3 bolt strut top so the entire assembly could bolt in.
-
So I just need to mounting brackets off a 97-99 outback and keep the forester arms?
Yep!

I reported this hours ago to give an idea of how active the mods are on here lol

You can use outback or forester trailing arms as both are longer than the impreza arms the outback are longer again than the forester arms from memory.
Looks like a great project good luck with it.
TOONGA
The arms are the same. It's the Trailing arm brackets that are different.

Damn rust

Remove the rear seat and open the access panel and you'll see the torsion bar adjuster right op top.
-
I've always removed the rear, but the front should hook back up, once it's on the ground again.
-
EA81's take a shock in the rear, not a coilover strut, The torsion bar is the spring.

Rear trailing arm bracket isn't even absolutely necessary on 02-07 Imprezas. But yes, 98-08 Forester struts are a direct bolt in for 02-07 Imprezas.

A friend of mine recent;y did a similar swap on a 97 Impreza. Used 22t heads, td04, 06 wrx intercooler, and other various wrx stuff. Works great, and runs well!

Caliper brackets, and rotors. I think the calipers are the same.

Load them to photobucket or a similar image hosting sight, and then post the image link here.

They swap right in. The only thing you need to do is swap your rear top hats, onto the Forester or Outback struts. 98-08 Forester struts, or 96-99 Outback struts will fit. And with your body style, it's also best to use the Outback trailing arm brackets to re center the rear wheel. Or they can be blocked down.
-
If you use your springs on forester struts, or visa versa, the struts will wear out prematurely. You really need to match the springs with the struts they came on. And yes you'll need the forester sway bar brackets to retain the sway bar.

Chris, there's a full subaru wheel cover that sets into ppace, then you rotate it, to lock it into place. There are actually little plastic locks that are attached to the wheels, and the wheel covers twist into them. Not for sure that's what he's talking about. It wasn't the best design though, and it's common for them to not stay on.

Yes they'll bolt right in. 98-08 forester, 02-07 impreza, and 95-99 legacy/outback, all have the same bolt pattern for their struts.

Fine gold flakes in the oil usually indicates a rod bearing failing.

It's not necessary to have a custom driveshaft made. You just use the driveshaft from the 5spd car. You have to install a center bearing mount, but that's not expensive or difficult.Lots of work to do the 5 speed. i lifted my Brat and that posed other problems and don't forget about making a custom driveshaft.
i'm planning an ej upgrade and possibly a turbo so the 5 speed was designed for about 25 more horses which i will need.
Definitely talk to Jerry and don't forget about the driveshaft cost.

Get in touch with Anderson Design and Fabrication. Andersondesign-fab.com He builds Subaru lifts, and has done more of the newer than pretty much anyone. He's on here as well.

Use the 4spd stuff and customize it to work. The 5spd stuff won't fit without cutting in the brat.

That's not how the headgaskets leak on those engines. It's very common for the 2.5 to have headgasket issues. And these ones start to fail by leaking oil.Ok, if it is oil how sure are you it is the Head gasket? You have valve cover gaskets, rear main, separator plate, etc... that can all cause oil to leak down and hit the exhaust. And a valve cover gasket leak can look like a head gasket leak as well.
Are you losing/using coolant? Do you see coolant on the ground under the car?
Use either 6 star or oem STi headgaskets to fix the issue.

The 04 xt came with 16" wheels, but they do clear 4 pots.
