Lifted 98 Forester S
This was a logging road, also used as a snowmobile trail. I think this was dammed up by beavers. And I'm a poser, the Hellas aren't hooked up!! I am terrible with car wiring so I hope to get a hand with them at some point, or find a harness.

EA82 5spd swap newbie Q's
Chris, it might actually be worth asking that question in the historic section. I know this swap has been done a few times, and they are the guys that know.

Yeah he knows he is going to have to make some room. I know he was talking to someone on here all about it through pm.

EA82 5spd swap newbie Q's
I should add that the 5 spd dual range will have a 3.9 final drive, so you need to find out what your BRAT has. that is something else that's easy to change if necessary and 3.9 rear diffs are cheap. I still have a spare one at a friends house too. OR, we could mod the 3.7 LSD to make it 3.9 and then you'd have LSD!

EA82 5spd swap newbie Q's
Hey Chris, no need to machine a flywheel. Just get an EA82 flywheel and clutch kit, then just clearance the bottom of the bellhousing on the motor. Those are some low mileage parts! I say get them. I should definitely be able to come over and lend a hand at some point, probably have to be a week night, but I want to see this thing happen. The clutch is an easy thing to do. Very straight forward. And the motor and tranny will just bolt together. I don't think the starter will work, and I'm not sure about the alternator. But I'm pretty sure I have a starter, and it even has almost new battery leads as well. I think I have an alternator too, but yours might have an external regulator, but I know that people have made the newer alternators work before with a little wiring modification. Other than that, there really shouldn't be much for wiring. And as far as the mechanics of it all, the engine and tranny bolt together, then engine will literally just drop in, you know what the car needs to make the transmission fit, and that's it. Yeah it's a bit of a project, but when it comes down to it, it's really pretty simple.

CV axles removal
bratman18 replied to 1-3-2-4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXremoving the nut from the lower ball joint and then removing the lower control arm from the ball joint will help a lot.

Yeah he wants the non turbo anyway for the better gearing.

EA82 5spd swap newbie Q's
Hey Chris. Yeah the transmission needs to be from a pre 1990 EA82. 90 and newer EA82's were called Loyales and only came with a push button 4WD. The 85-89 EA82 GL's came with the 5 spd dual range. So any 4WD manual transmission from a pre 90, EA82 GL.

Looks great. Pretty similar to the 99 Legacy sedan I had.

Lifted 98 Forester S
Yeah I had planned on just getting a flange at NAPA at some point. And an exhaust system is much easier to work on when there are flanges, and non rusted together ones at that!

Those aren't too bad. I do like the red on mine though. Matches other things well.

Lifted 98 Forester S
Yeah it shouldn't be too bad. I'd like to get a flange. Have any good ones kickin around? I want the one that is on the factory cat back section, or a flat flange of the same size. I have a piece of flex pipe that I am going to use for the extension piece and as a way to still have a flex section there without the use of the factory doughnut gasket.

Yeah I like the center caps, what color are yours?

Been a long time since I updated this. I have since upgraded to 04 STi rear hubs, and front and rear Brembo brakes, so I essentially have the full STi 6 spd swap now. I'll have to update my mod list on the first page. A couple pics....

AWD to 2WD
This is what I was thinking too. Seems like you're turning a pretty simple fix into an extensive project. And losing AWD isn't worth it at all, even for the 1-2 mpg's you may gain.

2005 Outback struts on 2005 Legacy?
I believe that the 05 Legacy was a different style than the 06, but I'm not positive on that.

2005 Outback struts on 2005 Legacy?
Not exactly sure on what years, but I would assume any years that have the same body style as yours. The spacers are located between the front and rear crossmembers on both sides. I also believe the tranny crossmember is different as well, so you will need that if you want to do the full swap, along with the longer steering u joint. Which I know on the older models you needed to change the steering column and the u joint at the end, but the new models may be different.
