  1. Got'r done. Only hang up is the clip. No clip on replacement. So, I used a dab of lock tite. FYI after all is assembled, remember to measure tire to tire front and back of tires in the same spot ,for a shade tree alignment.
  2. Gettin ready to tackle this on my 95 impreza. Is there any tricks i should be aware of?
  3. Just had a thought. I've never done it or heard of anyone doing it but...maybe you could do a "quick boot" over the original..basically double booting the cv joint? I dunno how you could hold it on, maybe some carefully placed wire ties? Maybe wrap the dry clean boot in Heat shield silver tape? For the one over the cat. Just McGyver it.
  4. Yes, the heat and oil could do that. I've heard thats what usually happens to the right side where the cat is so close to the boot. The extra piece of metal around the cat is the heat shield...unfortunately it doesn't work to good. Also driving conditions and style could cause it to wear. And poor mfg. axles/boots. Maybe try a different brand? If the same brand doesn't seem to be holding out. Which it doesn't.

Sorry for a late reply. I've Been using AutoCAD for geez goin on 10yrs now. DesignCAD is a basic inexpensive cad software. There are tons out there to choose from. Even AutoDESK has trial versions of their software packages. Some have tutorials that are fairly easy to follow. Good Luck and I hope you get what you need out of them.
  6. To repeat what everyone else said. Thats the coolest van!! I want one!! The pic of him on the single axle trailer in the redwoods is classic!! sooo cool. Very nice! I'm another jealous man..

  8. So, i came accross this on cl in Spfd Mo. If anyone would be interested i thought i would let them know. I wish i could get this one and make it a crawler.:-\ I hope its as good as the add shows. http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/2072632478.html
  9. I've done this myself and documented it in a "Novice Guide for Novice's". I had never changed a timing belt, pulleys , seals, wp, oil pump seal, the tensioner was fine with 250,000 miles on it (whats called a "nose job") on a subaru before, now 2 years later its still running great. I saved probably from what i've seen cost's are, around 600 bucks doing it myself. Its not that difficult if you take your time and and follow the many many guides that are around. Search this site and your bound to save tons of money. This site is so full of info and if you DIY...you get more confidence and save lots of $$$.
  10. Its an AWD auto tranny. Its fine shifting into all other gears. Just when I go from park to R. Cold or warm. RPM's stay the same. Its not as bad if I baby it into gear. The tranny otherwise is fine. The fluid seems fine and at proper level. It chirps somethin wierd, kinda like somethin is loose, so maybe the exhaust suggestion might be it. It just went on an 1100 mile trip and had no problems and the chirping wasn't as bad as usual. I will investigate further. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  11. My Automatic tranny has been chirping when i put it into reverse? Any help on diagnosis would be most appreciated. Its got about 200k on it. Its in a 1995 2.2 imp. If i shift really really slow and soft it doesnt chirp as bad.? Loose something? It only chirps when i put it in reverse. Other than the chirping in reverse it seems to run fine and shift fine?....for now??
  12. Well I competed in my first rally X . . I took the ol' 95 lx to the course. I got 7th in class of 13 and 23 overall out of 41.. First time ever driving with a helmet on! lol. Just wanted to brag a little. I don't usually brag...but hey it was my first time. Anyone in sw MO should check it out. http://www.omrscca.org
  13. I put New KYB-GR2's on all four corners. First time, not to difficult. Along with new tires..it drives much better.
  14. And here I've been braggin about havin 277,xxx on my DD... but 615,000:eek: wow. Most Impressive.
  15. Roger that. Thanks all. Dash that calculator at 1010tires is the heat!
  16. Would these possibly fit my 1995 impreza LX sedan? http://springfield.craigslist.org/pts/1815667332.html My oem wheels are 15" 10 hole 5 stud. Any help would be most appreciated.
  17. I've have noticed a small problem with my guage. When I fill up the tank the needle sometimes doesn't go back to full??? But if i "clean the marbles of the tires" nascar term for turning back and forth at slow speeds, the guage all of the sudden wakes up and the needle rises??? And sometimes even after it sits overnight or at work I start is up and i'm on dead empty. I do my back and forth move and it wakes up again?? Is my float stuck? or possibly need a new pump soon? 95 ej22 impreza. 270xxx
  18. I 've had my 95 Impreza since...2001...i'm the second owner. Its been incredibly reliable. Of course I love rally racing so i'm partial to imprezas.
  19. my 2 cents. Back around 160xxx on my 2.2 i lost a timing belt and it over heated a bit....twice.... Never replaced the HG's. I now have 257xxx miles on her and ...still running good.NO HG's problems. She runs a lot better after i did a nose job on her.
  20. Your extension is now in the bottom of your flywheel housing, I believe. You will probably have to take the engine out to separate the tranny from the motor to get the loose 3/8 extension out. A mechanic may be able to just separate them a little bit while still in the car, but i dunno. Thats why I do not condone going that route to remove the crank bolt which is on the entire other end of the engine. I advise not driveing the car.
  21. sorry for the late reply but if you or anyone wants a novice guide for doing these repairs I'll e-mail it to you. it'll be 3 emails of around 5mb each. I just need the addy's.
  22. Yes the axle came out and the boot stretched to its limits as the entire hub and brake assembly just swung out away from the car. So, I had to remove the boot exposing the loose axle. I couldn't get it back in outboard joint cuz the steering had locked up. So i turned key on and got the steering free. Then I positioned the axle back into the outboard cv joint and slighty rotated the brake rotor to get the axle splines lined up and it sliped right back into the joint. Next I put more grease into the joint and put the boot back on with clamps. I rotated the hub slowly to see if it was going to turn ok and see if there was any weird sounds or clicks of something out of place. It seem smooth as the other side so i presumed it was good to go.
  23. Well I do care. So, apparently the outboard joint came apart....if you (Gary, John?) care to explain, I would be most appreciative. Its driving fine right now. What do i need to do to fix this?
  24. It just came out of the wheel hub(outboard cv joint) not the transmission stub. And all four wheels where on her when i drove her home ! !
