Welcome to the USMB, Lorne. Please post your technical questions in the Newer Generation forum--that's where you'll get help. And you might also try the Search function (top right on this page.) There's been a lot of discussion of the brake and warm-start problems over the years. Good luck.

1996 Legacy L Wagon Engine advice and help
Olnick replied to cr8zyjohn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry Rooster, but I've never heard that and I've never seen any documentation to prove it. So until I see proof to the contrary I'll stick by my statement.

1996 Legacy L Wagon Engine advice and help
Olnick replied to cr8zyjohn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnother benefit--the '96 EJ22 was the last year of the NON-interference engine design. If the timing belt breaks it doesn't cause valve damage!

Broken valve cover bolt
Olnick replied to iamthevieve's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAny salvage yards or pull n' pays in your area? Might find a replacement there. Good luck!

Engine bogging & dies
Olnick replied to stucksube's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe ECTS (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) is a good possibility. Worth replacing. And definitely do the Timing Belt and front end--unless you know it has already been done.

Engine bogging & dies
Olnick replied to stucksube's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHow many miles on the car? Any idea when it last had a tune-up? I'd definitely start with new air and fuel filters. New plugs and wires too (use NGK plugs and NGK or OEM wires only.) Clean the IACV. Replace the PCV and clean the hoses that connect to it. Let us know how it goes . . . and good luck.

Recall led to air conditioning problems
Olnick replied to kbald's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's maddening! If your A/C was working okay before you took it in, I'd suggest you do call the Service Manager. And if he doesn't offer any help, call Subaru of America and get your complaint on the record.

2002 Legacy Overheating After New Radiator
Olnick replied to legacyofbrutality's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDid you accidentally hit the "virgin switch" bmaness? (On top of the steering column shroud, in front of the steering wheel.) Edit: Ooops! That wouldn't cause blinking would it?

dreaded engine swap please help
Olnick replied to davterlon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot sure about the compatibility of the swap--hopefully others will chime in on that. Just be aware that from 1997 on the EJ22 became an interference engine.
