  1. Sorry about your bad experience. Definitely call SOA (Subaru of America) and get them involved. Good luck.
  2. I would never put those plastic ties through the condenser or radiator fins. When I installed an ATF cooler on my wife's Maxima I built a simple frame of small aluminum angle stock to keep it well clear of the fins. Worked great (and looked good too!)
  3. Can anyone offer our two new members, longbowman and radioman, some help in getting started posting?
  4. Just a quick follow-up. When my son and I were driving his "new" '98 Outback from Colorado Springs back to Seattle, we stopped by a Lowes near Ogden, Utah, and had 2 duplicate keys cut. They were Axxess+ (Hillman) and worked perfectly right out of the cutting machine!
  5. Sorry this comes too late, Torry: I would have had the dealer cut one new key--test it--then run down to Lowes and have a copy made!!! (Contrary to what my kids say, I'm not cheap . . . I'm just frugal.)
  6. Point of clarification--when you say "left rear" do you mean the driver's side?
  7. Hey, screwdriver--welcome aboard. Post your question in the Newer Gen forum and you'll probably get more responses.
  8. Thanks grossgary--good points. I was asking with the assumption that DIYers would be doing it for themselves. Paying a pro mechanic for the work would be a losing proposition--if they'd agree to do it at all! Anyone know the answer to 211's question--does Subaru sell boot "kits" or do you have to buy all the parts separately?
  9. Is it generally recommended to re-boot both ends of the axle--DOJ and CV? Or do people just replace the torn one? I'm guessing it would be wise to refresh both while you're up to your elbows in grease!
  10. Get familiar with the Search function--USMB is an absolute encyclopedia for all things Subaru. And the good folks on here are very generous in sharing help.
  11. Similar topic was discussed recently--for some reason I can't post a link, so look back for this: "Outback carpet is shot" last active on March 27th.
  12. Best of all possible worlds--at least theoretically: 1) Buy one used genuine Subaru axle, per grossgary's suggestion, and re-grease/re-boot it immediately. Install it on your car. 2) Re-grease/re-boot the take-off axle and install it on the other side. 3) Re-grease/re-boot the 3rd axle and set it aside as a spare. That way you can work at your own speed, do it at the least expense possible--and sleep better!
  13. Best choice for re-built axles used to be MWE in Denver--reasonable price, quality work. I think the name changed a couple of years ago. Anyone know if they're still in business?
  14. Welcome to the USMB. I've always had the dream (purely armchair!) of a Subaru powered mid-engine lightweight. Sounds like fun--keep us up on your progress. With pix if you can!
  15. Welcome to the USMB. Happy to hear you're a "Subie Lover." Sorry to hear you have a mysterious ailment! Post your problem in the Newer Gen Forum--hopefully we can offer some help.
  16. Welcome to the USMB. You should post your questions in the Newer Generation Forum.
  17. A lot of folks go to a Pull n' Pay and grab a decent looking used OEM starter--my son did for his '92 Legacy. It's usually a better option (and cheaper) than a new or re-man'd aftermarket one.
  18. Welcome to the USMB. Your question won't get much response here--you need to post it in the Newer Generation forum.
  19. Welcome to USMB--glad it's been of help to you already. I believe all EJ22s after '96 were interference engines so just keep that in mind!
