  1. right on, thought it may have been too... Halloween like? (all red did NOT work) I went to paint over the red and thought 'hey wait, two tone?' Krylon and tape are cheap
  2. Ok, no jeers, and pay no attention to the battle damage (the driver side was customized by a ditch last December) item one, gloss black OR item 2, red bead and three is just a shot of my 'extra' stick, lack of a center console, and the cool XT seats I bought from Bacarruda (see told you they'd clean up) I need some kind of Toyota center cap, or something generic, and some pretty pretty lug nuts... yeah but, the question is -should I paint them all gloss black, or the gloss black center with the red bead?
  3. you don't even have to take the door panel off, there seems to be more than one casting to attach to the door, (the spacing of the three screws behind the trim piece varies a bit) you'll see, it's easy and self explanatory - I hope you do that, it's an easy project that makes for some enjoyment
  4. "northern"? that's the west side, how about "western washington happenings"
  5. I ALREADY added power mirrors, tilt, and the overhead map light yes, the harnesses are already in the car, in this case, the wiring was even run to the mirror through the door (although one had fallen down inside the door a bit) the switch panel pops into the dash, and the connector for it is in there somewhere the only one I had to hunt down was the connector that ran from the switch to the left mirror, but again, it was behind the dash and just a matter of plugging it in it's just a matter of finding the unused other half of the connector and matching the wire colors if you think about it, it makes manufacturing sense to make one wire bundle for everything and use what you need depending on the options to be installed
  6. not sure it'd be disrespecting our vets, although my grandpa might be tempted to shoot at it out of reflex... sometimes political correctness is annoying, in this case, the Sub-zero is only intended as tounge in cheek humor, self-effacing humor at that
  7. I feel ya'. I replaced my entire engine and kissed off the renegade lifter from hell. Imagine my anxiety as I waited for the lifters to inflate on the 'new' used engine... it was kind of looking like I had traded one truly obnoxious lifter for 8 singer sewing machines under the hood... fortunately, once it got all warmed up and since that first start, all's quiet under the hood. So far.
  8. pressed, wouldn't schucks/kragen/o'reilly/checker/auto zone have these? I need about 6 of them myself...
  9. I think that being willing to learn and try is all any of this requires. Since you already have the kit, just take your time to rebuild the carb. It needs to be cleaned and re-gasketed anyway - right? What exactly is the puddle jumper? That'll help some of the really knowledgable folks to help you. Glad you stopped lurking, 2006? Long time to hide.
  10. I'm sure Fuji Heavy Industries had a hand in it somewhere...
  11. Yeah it's the 1990 Loyale RS. I'll take some pics tomorrow, I painted the ugly rims and want to ask opinions of the two ideas I tried. Solid black glossy rims or black with a red bead... I had tried red rims, to match the car, but decided it was too 'fire engine'. Solid black looks ok but kind of boring, not sure if the Krylon deluxe treament, the red bead looks ok or is too 'Halloweeny' I didn't have much money to work with, a piece here a piece there - rock auto saved my butt - like the valve cover grommets for $.09 ea, of the $1.43 for the transmission output shaft seals... no shop, personal car port and gravel - but I do have an 80 gallon air compressor and some air tools (mainly the 1/2" impact drive saved my butt on disassembly). the donor car was 'der tod wagon' post (eines hubsches auto) bacarruda found the wagon on craigslist and I jumped on it - it's all his fault
  12. pic 1 - pwr mirrors (ylw black is driver side, green is passenger) pic 2 - a/c, connects to coil and plate on top of compressor pic 3 - fuel lines (already explained) pic 4 - oil pressure sending unit (near oil filter) pic 5 - diagnostic crap also explained
  13. I have my car back. There are a few minor things to work on, but I drove into town and got fuel and even washed it. So, I added these items from the donor mobile ; tilt, intermittent, an overhead map light, power mirrors and a rear cargo light (that I haven't installed yet) I swapped my s/r 5 for a d/r 5 (need center console) I swapped my tired 1.8 spfi for a less tired (and re-gasketed) 1.8 spfi, took the ecu too converted to rear disc and 6 bolt Toyota hubs changed to 15" (205/65-15) tires and (ugly) rims I'm sure I'm forgetting something I added or moved.... pulled the locked 3.9 from the donor, but haven't installed it, yet but it all seems to work - right off the bat the defacto gear ratio change is not unpleasant, I like the ride on the bigger tires and there is only a little rubbing at full lock (not where I would have expected it, but on the very corner of the air dam in the fender well) phew - time to rest and drive it for a while before I get any more 'great ideas'
  14. Thanks guys. I had to cut some carpet away to fit it, but nothing seemed binding or wrong... The solution was to get so po'ed at the whole deal that I was in the process of disconnecting the rod altogether to put the trans in 2wd manually and safety wire it in place - when I heard it 'snick -clink' into gear. apparently I hit the sweet spot for the rod length while I was unscrewing the adjuster quite angrily so much for science and careful procedure maybe I should have just bashed it with a rock to begin with
  15. this is really starting to P/$$ me off. I can have 4lo, 4hi, or both, but not 2wd - wtf is going on? I read the similar thread about no gearshift and reversed a bolt in my 4wd lever to keep it from possibly binding... the whole point of tearing my car apart was to put in this transmission, not the other 15 repairs I did "while I was at it", including replacing the engine help
  16. so the ea fsm says to install a holder for the hi-lo rod, essentially snug up the rod to the ball joint and back it off 90 degrees from there? does that sound right? I take it I'm immobilizing the shift pall to isolate the rod itself I have my clutch freeplay on spec, but am stuck in 4wd, hi or lo, no 2wd. it worked fine in the donor car...
  17. Yes it is a mitsu. I like it. Who's going to post the P-40 shark mouth now? Wait I got it! Ultimate cheese wouldn't be a prop on the front of the Zero Wagon, it'd be mock machine gun barrels alongside the cowl on the ea82 hood - plumbed to a propane cannon! you could flip a switch and 'strafe' Blaine, or better yet, go to Bellingham and rattle Scott's shop! I'm sure the poli wouldn't mind at all...
  18. ahhh that makes sense, file this one under 'duh'
  19. what's a suitable replacement for the spring that returns the clutch fork on an ea82 d/r 5? I had one on the s/r 5, but it may have been kind of whimpy - neither car had one when I got them, they seem to fall off (?) or get left off anyone got a ball park diameter and coil section length for a generic spring to put on?
  20. I had a 1976 DL that I did not love*. but if someone else is into those, that's cool *wasn't really the cars fault, it was incredibly reliable I like a lot of the things people are doing, I think the one that grabbed my attention the most was the Brat King cab with the hatch tailgate for the back wall - I'm surprised more people aren't doing that - pretty serious custom vehicle.
  21. if there was a more coherent introduction to this thread it might help, also I can't remember where the polls are in the myriad of menus :-\ ***edit - got it
  22. never did solve this. I swapped the egr solenoid from a working ea82, cleaned the IAC, tried a different IAC, cleaned it too when I swapped steering columns from another ea82, (for the tilt), I left the ecu on and ran with that eventually, the problem went away with an engine change - to another 1.8 spfi with fewer miles - that ruled out the 02 sensor from the original set up so it seems it was something on the old engine, but I don't know what, now my Cel is off and I have normal starts - hell, I've even got oil pressure again
  23. It probably would work fine, (washers). This is an excellent post. Is it incorrect to think this would work on an ea82 also? I have some aux lighting and it would be good to ask for a lesser percentage of the maximum rating of the stock 55 amp. I had been eyeballing the 100 amp in my Jeep... but this is such a nice slam dunk. Now I have another reason to go wander the yards...
