  1. I use the spring compressor and a air impact wrench to compress the spring. Air wrench save a lot of time and effort. BE CAREFUL , GO SLOW ! I have two sets of rear shocks one at the stock low position and one at the middle setting. The highest setting is really stiff .I would only use it if I was carring something heavy. The low/stock height position is best for rallying I think it keeps the rear of the car inline well. You have to make it break lose. The higher setting make the backend of the car feel like it's tring to pass the front end but, you get more clearence. With the two rear shocks already adjusted I can change my ride height of the whole car in under 30 minates. The front adjustable are a lot easier to adjust. You don't even need to take off the wheel. Well, easy once I learned from this board how to do it.
  2. Thanks , It is nice. I can sit in the back with the hatch open and not get covered by dirt from the bumper because it flush. Also you can still stand on the bumper on the sides when I'm tying things down on the roof. the whole job cost me $20 including primer. My main motivation for doing this was I would drag the bumper if I was going up or down a tight transition and I think this gives me a few extra inches of clearance. Now I need to do the front.
  3. Opps, that's what the guy tring to sell it told me. sorry to get off the topic but, to clearify center diff , Does that balance power front to rear ?
  4. 90K I would buy it. I have seen way worse XTs going for more. My local junk yard wants over $400 to get just the 5 lug set up.They seems to think XTs are priceless.I think they are tring to work me for more money. I have heard the air suspention fails eventually but legacys use the same front strut so easy fix. Only bad thing I noticed. I have only drove one XT6 and , I was not impressed by the power. It might have needed a tune up. It did have a cool feature, an on the fly rear LSD button.
  5. super simple 2" x 5 " box tubing. weighs about 30lbs. gives a little more clearence. I might put in a hitch attachment later if needed. It took about an hour to make.
  6. That's the way to go! I will use those next time. Where did you get them ?
  7. I fried my alt once because my battery was completely drained and when the car was rechargeing the battery the alt was working so hard it over heated / melted. Part of the problem was I use an Optima battery with lots of cold cranking amp. I was told if you completely drain them you need a charger to restore them. Shucks auto has life time warranty on rebuild alts. I'm on my 4th one. I don't think they are the best alts but you only need to buy it once. maybe your alt is working too hard also. good luck!
  8. I was gonna say this earlier and the video confirms it. It's not a question if these cars can move the trailers. You get into trouble when you need to stop. I have a friend who was going to move an Airstreem with his GL over Willamette Pass, Oregon . I told him I thought it was a bad idea. I'll tow my dirt bike or my Hobie Cat sail boat and thats about it.
  9. SUBARURX I have a couple questions. 1 - Uprated oil pressure / pump . seems like a good idea do you have more details ? 2 - Legacy brakes . Did you need to modify or fabricate something to make them work or is a staight bolt on ? other Legacy parts . It looks like legacys and EA-82 bodies have the same mounting set up for the top of the front strut but, not the same on the steering knuckle. I wonder if the axles are interchangeable or compatable.
  10. I agree SUBARURX it about having fun. Driving like that has made me a much better driver especially in winter. I'm so glad I have a place to rip around.
  11. Nice car SUBARURX. now thats a real rally car.I feel like a poser. It seems hard to find a lot of those aftermarket parts here in the US.
  12. I live in Bend Oregon. Pretty much any direction you drive you run into endless forest service roads. I love to explore so, the suby has logged some major miles off road around here.At first I babyed my car around but, once I learned my car could take a major beating, it was on! I love the feeling of being in 3rd gear full throttle in 4wd on a gravel corner with a little oversteer. Addicting!!! The Scandinavian Flick is my favorite trick. Check out my web site for my mods. click on my name and goto home page. sorry don't know URL of hand. If you rally around here in the summer make sure you have something to put out a fire with. I have never had to put out my own fire but,I put out other peoples fires . You will have to pay to put it out if you start it. Could be hundreds of thousand of dollars or more. That's why I'm putting on a spark arrestor. I also carry a bunch of stuff to get me out of trouble. H20,comealong & tow straps, full size spare , maps , ect. Note. one hour of driving equals about one day of hiking. Something to keep in mind.
  13. I'm sure you know this. But I will make my point. sway bars reduce body roll and help keep the unweighted wheel closer to the ground as well as stiffen the suspention. Often used on for road/track racing. lower vehicles. By lifting your car you loose the preformance of cornering. For 4x4ing you usally want articulation which lets each wheels travel happen very independently. a sway bar would defeat that. It's kinda like a enduro motorcycle. I think they are cool but my point is. They aren't very good dirt bikes, they aren't very good road bikes because they can do everything that means they don't do anything well. Thats why you need at least two subarus. One for street one for dirt and a couple in between. I'll shut up now!
  14. I removed my door bell along time ago. So it's a little fuzzy but mine didn't look like that. It only had two wire coming out of it. The one thing i do remember clearly is the plug was pink. This is from a loyale so I'm sure yours could be different. Observation; I don't see the ding dong part in that box, No bell , no speaker , or buzzer ? It would be a bummer to remove something you need. My brother dismantaled his dash in his Ford truck and had a simular looking box left over. It ended up running his windshield wipers. I would investigate further before I would take out any electronic devices. better safe than sorry.
  15. I would remove the knuckle. You can press in your bearings and keep them cleaner that way. I think it's easist if you knock out the alxe pin and remove the axle.just make sure you knock out the pin form the small side and reinstall into the large side( goes out and in from the same side ). The axle should slide right off. I would make a mark on tranny side of axle , so you line it back up easier. Axle pretty much just slides out of knuckle side also. I didn't do a re-alignment. You pop off the tie rod end but, since your not adjusting the adjustment nut it should be fine. I used a short bunge cord to hold the brake asembly off of the strut spring. With no epics the job takes about 2 hours , that's going kinda slow and taking your time, cleaning everything, drinking a beer. I used engine degreaser to remove old grease.
  16. Let me see if I can find out what gearing I have. I think I know a site that has all that info.
  17. its a 92 loyale. Ya the cable is broken. analoge dash.
  18. my 92 loyale with me ,dog ,tools , ect..2765 lbs ( municiple dump scale ).I think me, dog, tools, ect = about +250lbs. guestimate 2515 lbs. my car is gutted. If it don't make your car go forward it's out of there. nice shop but, the Franken strut scares me. yikes
  19. If your not an a/c-oholic I would ditch the junk. That's what i did. But Oregon only gets +100 for about 6 day's a year. park in the shade.
  20. I know team 555 used a justy rally car for the African Rally ( mid 1990s ) a very rough course for a rally. Colin McRay drove it back when he drove the Turbo Legacy just before the Impeza came out.He had a DNF if I remember correctly. Seemed Like a cool little car though.
  21. I put on a turbo muffler. It seems to have helped my top end. I run a stock size tires, I'm in 5th gear, tack is reading 4.5K I wonder how fast that is? I'm guessing between 85 or 90. The road is flat maybe a little down hill. It seems faster than ever because I can feel the car catching a little air over some of the bumps.
  22. The water pump has a weep hole( top right ) if you see coolent in this hole you need another H2O pump. Since you got a 92 loyale you got A/C and the pumps weep hole is hard to see.I redid my head gasket replace timing belt but, used old H2O pump and it's been fine( No leek in weep hole). I would replace old pump gasket ( mickey mouse gasket) while your in there.
  23. Maybe I should use a cross over pipe behind the oil pan for the sensor to be located. I think that would solve both problems( temp. & rewireing ).
  24. Sorry if seems like a stupid question!!! It's another Y pipe question. So one of my goals is to match the lenght of the 2 pipes.I plan to run the pipes parallel and make them join in the collector just behind the transmition cross member.I plan on putting the oxeygen sensor in the collector. This will move the sensor about 2 feet further away from the motor. I was wondering if that might cause some unforseen problems. I have been told that matching pipe lenghts can improve performance on normally asperated ( non-turbo ) motors.
