  1. Well wish I would have founda good independant shop for her. She just went to William's Subaru in Lansing, Michigan for a oil change and free brake inspection. Came out with a oil chnaged JUST front pads and rotors and not much else but $850 poorer!! God I hate, when you have to have to go to STEALERSHIPS for anything.
  2. Just seems like a very shady way to bring in extra income for unnecessary work when they see out of state plates on a vehicle with a older female owner. She went in for a $39 oil change with a coupon and came out with a $800 bill!! They gave her this list of things that needed to be done for SAFETY. front brake pads and rotors- $470!!!! (I replaced all four pads and rotors 10,000 miles ago) v-belt-$115 (Yes they called it a V-belt) replace heat shield-$85 wheel alignment-$120. This will likely be the last Subaru at this rate. Mainly due to dealers service departments and issues we have had this this Subaru on A/C system loosing charge, and head gasket issues. Sad really because my family has owned at least one Subaru since 1975!
  3. My Mom just got back from William's Subaru in Lansing, Michigan. They charged her $85 to REPLACE one of the stupid heat shields on the exhaust of her '03 Legacy GT sedan. The same heat shields that roted off a rattled to no end within months of taking the car off the lot new lot. Is this a common practice of Subaru dealers to steal money from there loyal, older, Female customers for a frivolous part that is bound to rot of and rattle 1,000 miles after a Michigan winter???
  4. Yep Big three have a grip in there backyard but hoping with Michigan State in the same town there might be some good local shops.
  5. Hey gang, do the new Subaru's finaly have lighted window buttons? Always bothed me about Subaru, door mounted controls.
  6. I am facing the same issue. let her know it is a 5-speed auto and has Manual-matic option, hop that helps. Old one I have heard NEED premium gas.
  7. Yep Bill, It maybe coming back home with me after all, at this rate. I have been talking with her on the new Legacy 2.5i Limited's;)
  8. Good point, thanks for the reply. You think she should just go to the local Subaru Stealership since she is unfamiliar with the East Lansing? So that light senses loss of pressure in the lines not low level of fluid in the rez.?
  9. That's what I was afaraid of I just replaced all the pads and bleed the sysetm at my house in New hampshire at 68,300 miles. 15,000 miles out of a full set organic of brake pads seems wrong. She JUST moved to East Lansing, Michigan over 800 miles away from me, perfect timing!! Does it indicate anything taht the light went out and stayed out after that?
  10. My Mom, fired up he '03 Legacy GT sedan with 83,000 on the clock this morning and the brake warning light stated on. Trie dthe e-brake and that was not it. Shut it off and stayed on maybe a mile then went off. Last inspection 2,000 miles ago mechanic said that pads were within spec. is thsi athe fluid level sensor flot sticking down or what?? No ABS light.
  11. OK, I have been a long time Subaru owner. Now that I have another kid on the way:banana: on the way I need a 7 pass. Looks like a Tribeca has a 5-speed auto , Legacy has needed it for awhile but any way. What is the reliability on these SUV's? Do I HAVE to put premium in it.
  12. Anyone had any exsperince with William's Subaru in Lansing. MI? My Mom JUST move dout to East Lansing two days ago an dthe A/C went out again on her '03 Legacy GT!
  13. Co-working is looking to buy a '05 Imprezza automatic for a New England comuter car. What kind of gas milage can he exspect? Has Subaru finaly lined out the HG issues in this 2.5?
  14. My Mother is moving to East Lansing, Michigan with her '03 Legacy GT sedan. Anyone on the board know of a good idependant Subaru shop in there area?
  15. Well a week latter the system was low again and no cold air. My Mom had Metric Motors in NY recharge the system with dye for $164 and look for leaks. Hope they can fix it.
  16. My Mother just came up to NH with her '03 GT Limited sedan. She complained that teh A/C did not wor the whole way. So I checked and when the A/C button was pressed the clutch on the compressor engaged but the low pressure line was not geting cold? I thought if system was too low on freon it would not even engage the compresor?? I got some R134A and recharged the system working great now, but would not have exspected a '03 with only 77k to leak in teh A/C yet??
  17. :confused:Well, the car now has 77k and same squeal above 4,000. Bearings on idler pulley look goo no greeease leaking?? Other strage thing is it does not squeal when reved at a stand still? Will only do it under load like accelerating or if going down hill and go to Netural and rev to 4,000?? Anyone see a concetion in moving the squeal at 4,000 RPM's?
  18. Yes, interior Washington state would have winter weather. If he has to drive in it AWD would be a definite plus!
  19. Well, I would recomend a 2WD Soob if you are not in a area that sees a lot of bad winter weather. They get better MPG and less moving parts. However the AWD makes the Soob what it is a bad wetaher which is GREAT!!
  20. I though we were talking about a failed MAIN bearing like on the crank shaft of the engine. If the bearing we are speaking of failing is just a tensioner or even a assc. like a alt. or P/S pump well heck that is easy to fix. Feeling much better now.
  21. Did not notice wobble while the car was running and I reved the engine from the TB buterfly.
