  1. I had actually just changed the oil for the first time since the car was given to me. Dipstick still shows it's full, I'm betting they were running thicker stuff in it than I put back in. It knocked, rattled and shook something fierce when I would try to start it immediately after it quit. After it cools down, it's a bit louder(probably the exhaust is loose again) but it runs fine. :-\
  2. Hmm, that's a possibility. It looks like the radiator took some damage during one of the last runs we made.
  3. Before it died this weekend, the best I could make my '84 Wagon do was about 50mph. Anything after that and it felt like it was going to shake itself to death.
  4. Perhaps we had too much fun on the 4th. While out thrashing around in the mud this weekend, my '84 GL Wagon lost complete oil pressure. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the gauge had dropped and the motor totally locked up before I could turn it off. Amazingly enough, after letting the car sit while we went to fetch a tow rope it cooled down and when I started it up the pressure had come back up to about 75psi. I was able to run it for most of the rest of the day before it happened again. This morning I checked and all was well again. What is up with this thing? I think it's time to find a new car, this one isn't really worth rebuilding or putting a new motor in. lol
  5. As an owner of New and Old School Subies, I would definitely be down with a magazine like that.
  6. Wow, that's pretty impressive. Glad it didn't take too much damage. I swear my Wagon has to have spent some time in the ocean as rusty as it is.
  7. OMG, that's great. Gives me some great ideas for what to do with my 3 day weekend.
  8. Bummer, but better to know now instead of after I start tearing the car down. Thanks for the info GD.
  9. I've come across an '87 Hatchback in my area for $200. The problem is it's 2wd and there is no title. The guy says he works in the junkyard he got it from and can get paperwork to make it legal. The body and interior on it look amazing, though the windows have been left down in the rain for the last month or so. He wanted it to put the engine into his wife's fuel injected EA82 wagon, but seemed amazed that his wife's car has kept going despite some nasty bottom end rattling. I'm thinking about getting it and using my '84 4x4 wagon as a donor for a swap. I've been reading some conflicting info about this conversion. Can anyone who has done this before give me some ideas about what I'm getting myself into? Thanks
  10. I have a wagon right now, but am looking for a hatch for the aforementioned better manuverability.
  11. Excellent amount of clearance. What size are those tires? Looks like a lot of sidewall on those suckers.
  12. Jeebus, that thing is awesome. That car is going to be a monster when you're done.
  13. Coils can be very sensitive, I wonder if they are getting vibrated or shook to death. I have a 'Super Stock' on a Small Block Chevy that's been on there for years with no issues. :-\
  14. This thread over at NASIOC explains it better than I ever could. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=468038
  15. I hope my sarcasm meter is off today, but just in case, on a stock WRX motor a bov hurts more than helps. However on a 300+hp a BOV can be of use.
  16. Ugh, people like that driving WRXs is such a waste. When will these people learn that BOVs are bad for their performance.
  17. So, the wife just inherited some nice, quiet, pastureland in the middle of nowhere... What else was there for me to do but go "exploring" it with my '84 wagon. Bare with me as the video was taken on my Sony F717 Digicam and I threw it all together in Premiere without any prior knowledge of how to use the problem. It has been encoded in DivX 5.1 and is just under 8mb in size. For my server's sake please, Right Click -> Save As. Enjoy http://www.onysd.wednet.edu/chris/rustysubaru1.avi
  18. That's Joe Spitz's site. He works for Carter Subaru in Shorline, WA. I bought my 2k4 WRX from him. He's a great guy and is very knowledgeable about Subarus.
  19. Probably not a lot of help to you but I've got 185/80/13s on with no problems. That translates to just under 25" with room to spare in the wheel wells.
  20. I too am having the same dillema, my '84 Wagon burned up the last of it's clutch this weekend. In taking in the above recommendations I've found this; thepartsbin.com has a clutch kit for $125, but it appears to be only the disc, pressure plate and pilot bearing. Does anyone know if the release bearing is indeed included? 1stsubaruparts.com has individual parts listed, but not clutch "kits", am I over looking it on thier site? Does anyone have a link for someone else to buy the OEM kit from? Thanks!
