  1. I drive mine like I stole it all the time... First gear usually goes up to about 5500-6000 2nd gear usually gets shifted at 4000-5000 (if Im passing, itll go higher) Theres a hill here that my sister always goes into the slow lane, drops from 5th to 4th and does about 50 up the hill... saying the car cant go faster... When I take the same hill, I shift down to 3rd, run it out to about 6500, then 4th and still punching the gas and I can climb the hill at 75 no problems... I beg to differ that these cars are gutless... But you should have NO problems shifting from 3000+ I should add when I am trying to conserve gas, I shift at about 3500 max rpms.
  2. Update: Gonna be heading to GDs as soon as I have a day off... Got a call "Ned died in the middle of the road again, he wont even rev up and theres a hissing sound" So we go check him out, turn the key, he starts, the moment I push the gas, he dies. Try again only barely pushing gas to raise RPMs slower, dies again... but my sister said "Thats the hissing" (AIR MOVING INTO THE AIR FILTER HAHAHA) Opened hood, poked around, saw nothing out of ordinary, felt the linkages, everything felt good, choke wire (32/36 DGEV) wasnt loose... go back in, starts right up... slowly push the gas and the rpms climb... smashed the gas, RPMs shot up... just like normal... off he drove.... Thinking this is carb related... so I will take it to the master of Webers.
  3. Glad to see the Legacy up here! Looking forward to seeing what you continue doing to it! Marshall from OR. AWD/Subaru Alliance and PNW Subaru Enthusiasts!
  4. More description? Perhaps a year range... Go into the Members Ride section and search BRAT and theres quite a few threads started...
  5. He chokes himself out apparently... So Im thinking fuel related or perhaps alternator related, I have a Nissan Alternator in my garage, just havent had it installed yet. Perhaps thats what Ill do this weekend is have my car at Ricks shop
  6. Could these be clutch related? I guess he sorta chokes himself out... he will studder (which apparently feels exactly like if you lift the clutch up too fast) and then the rpms start dropping while youre driving, then when they hit about 500 the car just dies... My clutch is toast, but I wont put a new one in until Im the only driver... could this mimick the symptoms...? Still also thinking fuel delivery issue...
  7. So apparently the car only does this "loss of power and then shut-off" when the defroster is on. I turned on the car, let it run, defroster on... no issues. Thinking the issue might have been alternator related (due to a VBelt that was bad) I gave myself a full load: -Brakes -Back Up lights -Brights -Fans on 4 -Wipers -Radio -Blinkers and although my volt gauge barely read above the 1/4 way, the car stayed at idle... So I dont think its electrical. and Im not seeing any lines with leaks... I smell fuel around the carb, but Im pretty sure it runs a little rich anyway.
  8. Whats wrong with Ned? You mean the 4-5 inch piece missing isnt good? Lol I replaced the V-Belt on Ned today... just a Duralast belt (Autozone) but its better than the current one was for right now.
  9. Send em to your email/share it with photobucket if you can... Then take the IMG code and paste it in the new message.
  10. Do I need to replace any bushings? I think Ill do Legacy/Impreza stuff up front though... For ease of finding parts later on down the road... Im still researching to make sure I get the small details figured out
  11. Celebration? Or a beating so it still knows whos boss? haha
  12. She unfortunately doesnt know much about cars.... Thats why I get the panicked phone calls... saying a noise. Im not sure what the pop is, Ill have to ask her exactly where it came from... I wanna say a backfire, as I remember spiritedly driving and the person following me said when I shifted gears, the car backfired and shot flames out the exhaust So perhaps too much fuel getting into the carb?
  13. Catalytic converter is still there... I have thought about hollowing them out though. Hes also Weber Carb'd - 32/36 DGEV by the way
  14. Im not driving Ned currently (ODL suspension) so Ive been letting my sister drive him to/from work until she gets her own scoob. She called me and told me... "Ned just shot off while I was driving him. Then I tried to start him and when he fired, he went up to 500 rpms and when I hit the gas, he just died, so I pumped the gas a little bit and tried to start him again, the RPMs went up like usual and hes been running fine but I just shut him down and there was a pop and a burning smell, not like oil, but something else" What do you think USMB? Fuel pump? Fuel Filters? Fuel system cleaner?
  15. Now that its officially mine... Subaru #6 (if parts cars count) 1988 XT6 Will be using the 5 lug parts and the sway bars and probably the front seats for Ned then parting out the rest. Also going to be purchasing 2 EA82s from Tractor Pole to put together and make a running one for Ned... the current one is letting go.
  16. Get pictures! Congrats on chugging right along! I cant wait til I can follow some of you guys that are doing incredible jobs on your EA to EJ swaps with such nice cars!
  17. Like he said, mine broke, I still need to find a nice EA82 sedan to get new ones off of so I can paint them so they look good again
  18. Looks like Jeep seats: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=135768
  19. Curse having an 1986... Do I even need to ask what the mods are for one of these or is it more haha
  20. Numbchux has miata suspension on his wagon... Ive been trying to get some details on it since Im about to go 5 lug and lower about 2.5"
  21. I hear ya! I work from 2pm to 12am then chill on the computer til about 3am then sleep til 11am and get ready for the day who has times for pics? haha
  22. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=133725 Stuart did it in his Loyale and did a write-up, there are others... It did come in Chevys
  23. That is true... everyone has em... But not many have em on an EA82 I think it will just depend on what is "right" at the time... If they are gone when I can "afford" them then it wasnt meant to be... New addition to the list... Valve Cover Gaskets and air hoses... mine are soaked in oil.
  24. Well, MAJOR change up in plans... Got permanently hired at the place I work... so its onto spending the money... Coming up in a short few months. LED dashboard - got the LEDs in the mail today - may go for a red-tint if I can remove the green tint I currently have. (Loyale 2.7 Turbo) 5 Lug swap (YUPP!) - Following Numbchux's wagon in sedan form. Projector Headlights (Turbones Swap) And just for fun, 2 Kicker L5 Solo Barics and a 1200 watt amp Im kinda torn between two sets of wheels.. 17X7.5 Rota Grids (painted black) 17X8 TSW Mugello The Rotas I can buy next week... but Im curious as to how theyd look on Ned... I need a photoshop expert.
