  1. Your clutch is dead, you need a new clutch and pressure plate. I got a car from Paul (Moosens) like that once...that was a fun ride home. It wouldn't move at all under 5K RPMs and 6KRPMs on the freeway got it to about 50 miles an hour... If your emissions cert came out fine, it's probably not a carb problem. As for the seat, post a WTB advert in the Subaru Marketplace forum, and specify year and interior color (and condition desired) and a couple people will get back to you. Welcome aboard! Andrew
  2. Great, Moose, sell the car and THEN get the tranny... I second the head gasket opinion. Probably just condensation or you would've had hard starting/steam coming out of your tailpipe by now. But if you want to give Paul that tranny, by all means!
  3. I think...not certain though...that the switch just in front of the E-brake is for the fog lights? I'll check my OM tomorrow.
  4. If you have the time on your hands, a stiff toothbrush and some aerosol upholstery cleaner should solve the problem. I use Bissell spray-on upholstery and foaming carpet cleaners (2 different products), available wherever Bissell vacuum cleaners are sold. If you want to speed things up a bit, you could try a stiff nylon brush on a paint buffer at low speed.
  5. Richie has pics on his Web site. I just posted about these too--found one about 20 minutes away that the owner might be willing to part with. It's an auto GL-10. From what I understand, about 300 were made in So. Cali by a firm that makes convertible tops. The tops are still available. The one on the one I found is power, but I don't know if they all are. I believe the cars used were all 1983 models (I've never seen/heard of one with a GLF badge) but they were made between '82-'84. SoA did NOT authorize them, nor did they carry any convertible-specific parts (tops and upper framework, tiedowns and such).
  6. Thanks for the info. I looked again today, the digidash was replaced with a standard analog one I guess...and there's no sunroof, dome light or rear defroster. I found the Holy Grail of Subaru Collecting, not even Moosens can touch this. 1983 GL-10 Convertible, Shiny Maroon Metallic over beige interior, less than a half hour away. Garaged. Power top, windows, steering, mirrors...the owner doesn't know if he wants to sell it, but if he decides he does, he'll hold it for me. Needs some body work, a tuneup and a disty. Otherwise it looks solid.
  7. Hi all, I was looking at an '83 GL-10, and I was wondering if anyone knew what options were standard. It was in a garage (and I wasn't) so I only got a look at the outside of the car. Was the digidash available in '83? Did it come with the GL-10 package? What about power windows, sound system, A/C? And the interior? (What seating options, etc.) Thanks, Andrew
  8. If they don't pick letters out of the air, how'd we end up with FF-1, FFE, STD? (I think DL is "Devoid of Luxury".)
  9. How's the body on the XT? What color? Why is it a parts car? What year? 4 or 6? Carbed or FI? Can it be a running car fairly painlessly? I just might have a use for it...my XT was recently stolen. Or repoed. However you want to put it--my mom ran her GLF into the ground and "borrowed" the XT. Only she likes it, so it might not be returned...
  10. I wonder why they decided to call the GL-10 the GL-10. They were never offered with D/R 5-speeds. Maybe because you could fit a ten-speed on the roof rack?
  11. My right (pass side) XT taillight also fills up with water, anyone else here with that problem?
  12. And NO rust...some things just are not fair... Nice score.
  13. I think a Loyale or Gen 1 Legacy would work best. 2.2L engines were base engines on all Legacies until '94, the 2.2 turbo came in Legacy Turbo models (obviously). I don't think you'll be able to find a Gen II Legacy in good condition for less than $3000. Good luck with admissions, hope you get in. I'm doing a minor in History, I'm focusing on early European though.
  14. Neat! Thanks for the advice, I'll be needing it...I'm really hoping that my mother decides to keep it. It's white, blue interior, with power windows, cruise, power steering, air, and sunroof--basically fully loaded. Unfortunately it also has an auto tranny (she can't drive a stick, so that was a requirement). If she decides to junk it I have to (a) sell it fast or ( hide it faster. I'm banking on B.
  15. This is Andrew, dittoing everything Paul (moosens) just said... Unfortunately the GLF is out of commission until spring. It needs a LOT of front-end work--CVJs, wheel bearings, ball joints, brakes--and the barn isn't heated. So my mom is going to be driving my XT until then (unless I can find an automatic silver '89 4X4 3-door in good shape, with around 150K on it, locally--hint hint) and the GLF will be in storage. If she makes me put it up for sale, think $10,000 is reasonable? I love her car, I'd hate to see it go. What are the specs on yours? Options, color, year, etc.
  16. Tom, I'm going down I-95 to exit 110. My mom is going to Kannapolis, NC--she'll probably take 81 to 66 to 95 (on the way back--she's flying down). Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm looking at either the 18th or the first weekend in the new year for my trip, my mother is going to NC this Wednesday.
  17. I like the Forester better because it, like BlueSoob said, reminds me of the GL. It doesn't handle as well and the acceleration feels comparatively sluggish (even though I know it isn't, it just feels that way), but I think if I was in the same position I'd buy another. As for the newer Outbacks, I think I would prefer a Legacy--lower to the ground, marginally better gas mileage and handling. But the Forester is just ther right size for me, right now, and it has some room to grow into. Demographically speaking I think I've seen two males driving Foresters. ost owners seem to be 35-55 year old females. Subaru has indicated that most Forester owners work in service professions, are married and female, and earn $55-80K/yr. Being a 17-year-old single male, and working in a library, I naturally fit right in :-\ but if that doesn't bother you (it doesn't bother me) then let your kid choose for you, or figure out what niceties you really must have. (2 sunroofs, or one, or none if you get a Forester with an auto. Stick or auto. Leather. And so on.)
  18. Thanks...after reading your post and listening to weather reports and spinning all 4 wheels at 5 miles an hour at the end of the street---I'm thinking anyone north of NY would be nuts to try to go out to a JY in this. My advice to the rest of you is to make sure you remember your ice scrapers
  19. Which is exactly why we're not going anywhere. 2 inches here and counting...
  20. Well, thanks everyone for the numbers--but due to the foot of snow blanketing the area, I'm planning on waiting another couple weeks. Maybe the JY run next week and then down to VA the week after, or after Jan 1. I don't have a backup driver next week for sure. PS Any objections if I give the contact info to my Mom? She's picking up my cousin and her kids on the 10th, flying down, renting a van and driving back with my aunt. If you aren't going to be around or have a problem with that let me know. Thanks again Andrew
  21. Hi all, I need help quickly. I was planning on taking a trip to VA to grab a blast cabinet and a car for moosens. I didn't post here (since it wasn't finalized) and then I wasn't getting the car...and then the EC junkyard meet got cancelled. So I'll be driving back in an '88 GL wagon with the Forester following--if there's anyone that's willing to share emergency numbers/addresses I'd REALLY appreciate it. The car is unproven to me, and although I trust the people on this board you never know what's going to happen in a 15-year-old car in a foot and a half of snow, over 800+ miles. Thanks very much, Andrew aparker@aparker.asnuntuck.org If you can send me your numbers/addresses please do so before 3:30, our estimated time of departure. I'm not going to be able to check my mail after that. We'll be taking I-195 south most of the way.
  22. Moose, CALL ME PLEASE. I'm still planning on going down to WV to pick up parts + cars + lots of other miscellany and I'd like to know who I'm meeting and where...leaving in 5 hours hopefully.
