  1. Thanks all SoobieDoo- Manastash i think is great, you head west and you get toward the naches area which has some tough stuff. I stayed east where there is nice country roads that can lead to some fun spots Brian- Its a good thing i saw it and replied less than a hour after it was posted! Bill- Definintely have to go wheelin sometime, I went up with you and a few others at xmass tree run in my impreza wagon and got stuck i think now im a little more capable. I think i might have to take a trip down to the slab, looks like fun. and when its liftin time ill be headin your way subaruguru- you better, we need more lifted subies in eburg
  2. So as the title states this will be my build thread for my beloved 86 GL BRAT that i picked up for the low low price of 150 Heres the story- Right after xmass 09 went and got it from Battle Grounds WA and towed it all the way to Ellensburg and got straight to work on it. All i knew was it needed a new alt so i went for the 100amp GM and made it fit in there. Started up but would die after 10 seconds Eventually i traced the problem through the fuel system to a clogged line in the tank, nothin a little compressed air couldnt fix. And ever since she has ran great! Especially after replacing the clutch. Ive taken her on a few trips up manastash ridge for a little fun and was amazed at how well it could do completely stock. Currently i just got some new drilled yota rims from backcountrycrui (thanks Mike!) and put on some 27in snow tires that use to be on my impreza wagon. Fit great and with a little trim and bash there is almost no rubbing. Right now she is in the exhaust shop having that redone, cat back with glasspack. And i have a weber in the mail! Future plans are to go for 6in lift, steel bumpers, 5 speed swap when im tired of or brake the 4 speed, and get some general grabber at2 tires. Anyways enough blabberin, here are a few pics from yesterday back in south hill -Andy
  3. saw this on ebay 1990 Subaru Sambar.... whatever that is
  4. Im gonna say yes so we have a date, we have a basic agenda, but what do we call this? Im thinking Bi-Drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter Meet 2010 or just BRAT Meet 2010 after we figure that out ill start a new official thread
  5. the campsite isnt really a "campsite" its more of just a spot where people camp. Its primitive, there is a restroom further up the road at the Lion Rock picknick place. But otherwise its pretty much just a large area in the trees right on the road in. There are other spots so if one is taken then no problem. if anything i can go up there earlier in the weekend and try to claim the area. and Ill have to see about maybe getting a porta jon up there to make things a bit better since there might be a big group. -Andy
  6. Yea i wouldnt worry about crowds here. Then only reason people camp up reecer creek is for hunting which is mostly fall. Otherwise most of the crowd will be offroaders in the manastash and up toward naches which is the other side of the valley. And yes memorial day weekend others may have plans, there is a rallyx that i would go to, but i think a brat meet is worth it. and it does make for a more relaxed weekend time wise for those making a longer trip. And there is the fact that almost everyone is going to have the weekend off so that opens it up more. so far ive heard more about amount of time being the issue and not the actual date. So im thinking it has to be memorial day weekend. I hope more people can make it this way instead of a regular weekend. And im sorry if this makes it not work for some of you but a date needs to be set. agreed? -Andy
  7. Thanks Indrid, i see where your going with this. Good ideas So instantly a place came to mind when i thought of a place to meet thats in town and what not. Winegars Ice cream. Its a local shop that makes in my opinion the best ice cream ever, i go there every tuesday night for dollar scoop night its got a good size lot next to it for us to park at and its right on one of the main roads. im thinking we can still have the "main" camping location up reecer creek outside of town. If you fallow Twitches link to the ellensburg chamber of commerce and look for Lion Rock thats the general spot. actually i just thought of another thing. One of the most iconic thing to do here in central washington is a canyon run. The yakima river canyon is one of the best drives anywhere and its almost a must do. ok so im talking enough but this is the plan that comes to my head. -hold the event on memorial day weekend, three days gives everyone a chance to make it to something. -Saturday, plan to meet at winegars ice cream at 4 to get some awesome ice cream, meet, greet, chat, ect.. then from there we can head out to the campsite or wherever you decide to stay for the night. -Sunday before noon, we will meet somewhere in town (ill figure out a main area) and head out on a drive through the yakima canyon. Continue to yakima to the one place you have to eat whenever in yakima, Miners. Best dinner ever, enough said. after lunch we can head back to eburg and roll into town as a big group and park in a place and have the main car show shindig. Then from there if people want to leave do so, if people want to go hit some trails do so, if people want to head back to camp then yea. -Monday, kind of leave when you want to Anyways sorry for the long post, just getting thoughts out there. With a general schedual, What do you guys think??
  8. Im looking for some input on the couple ideas i have, i mean if you guys would rather have a spot to camp/hangout or have a spot to meet/hangout then camp elsewhere. I kinda like the idea of having it all in one spot, plus offroad trails would be right there which would be cool but still completely accessible by stock/lowered cars. Either tomorrow or some point in the next few days ill go out to the spot i had in mind up reecer creek road and take a good look, get some pics and let you guys have a better idea. so yea, ill update soon -Andy
  9. I see, ill get in touch with you when the time comes around. anyways back on topic
  10. yea i get that completely. i like the idea of a bolt on extension. i mean i could probably figure out something for an extension myself if i put a little time and thinking into it. But im still in the learning process for fabricating and would like to leave it to those who know what they are doing -Andy
  11. I get ya on that, only reason i ask about the steering extension is because i dont have access to a welder. The plan is to buy a BOSS 6 inch lift kit, so i only really need to figure out steering extension and shift linkage. And since your offering the steering extension i might have to jump on that. my point exactly
  12. I would be interested in a steering extension, i plan to get a 6 or 4 inch kit for my brat. Steering extension is the only part i think i cant do myself. So if you have just extensions available in the future i would be in -Andy
  13. In my opinion i think this should be a brat oriented meet, but everyone is invited kinda like the alki beach meet is oriented for 93-01 impreza's but anyone could come, and how HP/NWWO summer meets are intended for offroad worthy subies but anyone can still come. to say this is a brat only meet kinda kills it for me. there are those out there who love brats but dont have one (kinda like my roomate ). so i say if you are not only a "subaru enthusiasts" but also a "brat enthusiasts" then you should come but when it comes time for group photos gtfo of the shot if you dont have a brat anyways, i like The Bi-Drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter Meet and uh how bout that poll eh?
  14. looks like when i buy a new set of rims im gonna have to make a trip out there nice deal
  15. so either may 22/23 or june 5/6. either one works for me, so i guess a vote is in order to see which weekend works for more people so here are a few ideas i have come up with we could have the meet at peoples pond here http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=46.989577,+-120.572805&sll=46.989621,-120.572355&sspn=0.008255,0.01929&ie=UTF8&ll=46.989518,-120.571647&spn=0.008255,0.01929&t=h&z=16 where there is good parking, covered picknick area, grass fields, volleyball net, ect.. camping is the only problem, there is a KOA on the edge of town. other than that i dont know what would be close. Another idea is to have the meet outside of town in the hills. I can think of a few places. Reecer creek road heads north of eburg and up into the hills. At the base of the hills it turns into a one lane paved forest service road that goes in about 8 miles. so that would make it easier for more street oriented cars. I see hunters and the like camping up there all the time and there are a few large areas that would work well. the views are amazing from high above kittitas valley and there are trails out here for the offroad guys if they want to play at this meet. The other place i can think of is in the manastash canyon. Basically fallow manastash road out of town and it turns into a pretty good gravel road eventually. so street oriented cars would still be fine. This area has spots to camp too and is very popular for 4x4 guys to set up base camp and head to the natchees area. i dont know where this is but it also sounds good. Peoples pond would be good for more of a car show style meet with a bbq and just hanging out and then finding places to stay for the night. The other two places in the hills would be good for a camp out style meet where we drive up to a spot, set up camp and have a fire, make food, hang out, people can go offroading, and stay the night right there. So those are a few ideas i had in mind, let me know what you guys think -Andy
  16. Me and my buddy have a house here in eburg with three subies out front, including my brat so i would definitely be in for a brat meet. if we really wanted to i bet we could use the fairgrounds to host this meet. kinda like wcss11 or if anything there is peoples pond across the highway that has plenty of parking, covered pick-nick area and stuff like that. since i live here i could do some pokin around and figure stuff out if you guys want me to
  17. That looks like good stuff Ive been hitting up manastash and umptanum ridge lately with my stock BRAT and have gotten through some pretty nasty spots. never would have thought i could with street tires too Id be up for a run out there sometime when i get this thing running better and maybe some actual tread on her
  18. I probably wont be out that way till summer, but if i ever am ill let ya know Twitch. So i can almost say problem solved I took the carb off and cleaned it up as much as i could without taking it apart, the float seemed to be moving just fine so i put it on and nothing changed. So i decided it was the fuel pump. Ordered a new one and put it on today, ran a lot longer than with the old fuel pump so i pull it out of the garage and it died :-\ Pulled a line and no fuel came out. Put the old one back on and it pumped like it used to. SO it seems i got a faulty fuel pump, took it back and a new one will be in tomorrow. Then we shall see If i ever get it running ill start a build thread instead of ranting on in my intro thread -Andy
  19. So yes, she starts, but dies about 10-15 seconds later :-\ Im assuming its a fuel issue. Fuel pump works, checked that by pulling a line and turning it over to see if gas squirts out. My best guess is that its a problem with the carb specifically the float bowl. Ive thrown that b-12 cleaner at it and no success. The weird thing though is that when i was hitting it with sea foam it kept the engine running and actually warmed up, and instead of dying after start up it would idle like nothing was wrong. So i took it for a spin and it died two blocks later. Jerked a few times and would just quit, and wouldnt start back up for a minute or two. So i dont know what to think. right now i can go into the garage and turn the key and it will run for 15 seconds and die. I was going to get a weber anyway but i would rather get the stock one to work and wait till i actually have 350 to spend. Other than that i have some pics of the alt installed and a few items i found in the glove box (after tearing apart the dash to get in there because it was locked) http://picasaweb.google.com/fenix747/Brat?feat=directlink -Andy
  20. Got her started tonight! Drained the old fuel and changed the fuel filter. After a couple trips to the gas station (need bigger gas can) got enough in her, brought my other subie over to give it some juice and she fired right up! Then died a minute later, definitely need a new alternator. So now i got the old alt out and have a new GM 100a sitting in the engine bay till tomorrow. Hope this thing fits with the stock carb (i know from the write up that it will fit with weber carb but stock air filter might be in the way) more details and pics to come -Andy
  21. I will definitely be seeing you again Ed down in hillsboro this season, ill either be driving the brat or ill by duel driving a rabbit with Brandon. And sorry i missed you Zap at the tree run, i was the kid with the obs and little white puppy. I tend to sit back and listen at meets more than talk Thanks for the quick info on 5 speed swap, sounds like it might be in my future. Its still too soon to determine how the stock tranny is at the moment. I just got home from a week in north idaho (i think i saw a HUGE brat with solid axles just north of Coeur d'Alene on my way through). Tomorrow i will be shoveling snow and start working to get her started up. any tricks to these ea81s when it comes to getting it started after maybe years of sitting? I plan to drain what little fuel is left in the tank and put in some good fresh stuff, throw in some seafoam and change the oil. might even change the fuel filter while im at it. Thanks guys, -Andy
