well you both should come, wcss is a good time to be hand by all and everyone

yea at least try to get to wcss for sure. This next weekend is just a simple weekend wheelin adventure. As far as the pathfinder coming, my buddy brought his chevy to wcss 10 before he had a subaru, hung out and got to play in the mud pit. But as far as wheelin with the subies after ill let someone else comment on that, i havent had the privilege of wheeling at a wcss event yet (took the impreza to the last couple wcss's).

No worrys man, my brat is still basically stock last time i went out. Just bigger tires and a weber. It handled just fine on one of the hardest trails out there. There are plenty easier trails to choose that are still lots of fun. Im thinking about doing "hole in the rock" or "nealey creek + regan way" trails unless we want a good challenge. Plus the jeep that is coming can get through anything out there, and has winches front and back so no one will get stuck. So if your feeling up to it you should come out and have some fun with that subie

If you go bigger it can also be cheaper in a way. http://www.treadwright.com/shopnow/product/tabid/61/productid/8/sename/23575r15-crawler-mt-c.aspx they are 29", only 60 bucks a pop, and aggressive as hell. yea they are retreads but check out some reviews out there (moab jeeper has good info) and you will see they are pretty darn good. I plan to run them on my Brat. -Andy

yea i plan to do some wheelin around wcss, it couldnt be any closer to me

Planning on doing some wheeling Saturday the 7th in the Liberty, WA area. There are a number of trails to choose from to suite anyones abilities. Here is a good list http://nwjeepn.com/WAtrails.htm#liberty I have a gps with all the trails routed in so we can do any of them. So far i know im going and my jeep buddy will be coming again. So lets get some more subies out there! I know this is a little short notice but i figured i would open up an invite. So if your available and want to hit some trails then lets do it

^^^ yea definitely So as some of you saw i did some good wheelin the other day http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=943846#post943846 Only suffered minor trail damage in the rear, departure angle kinda sucks . when i build my rear bumper im thinking it would be a good idea to run some sliders from the bumper back under to the diff area so i dont just rip off the bumper, or worse damage the gas tank. Kind of like this set up good stuff obk25xt The only other issue was with the clutch. Still slips a bit but wasnt too bad until it got too hot, then i could barely keep going. but once it cooled down it was ok again. Guess i need to get on that five speed swap soon On the bright side i got a welded rear diff and installed it today. Hopefully will test it out in a week. -Andy

Thanks guys, it definitely was a good time to be had for sure. Im thinking about doing some wheeling again next weekend in the same area with the jeep buddy again. Ill probably start another thread and see if i can get some subie peeps in on the action if anyone else is free

Figured i would share my recent trail run i did up in the Liberty area outside Ellensburg. I have done plenty of wheeling before, but never a "real trail run". And i must say it was a good test for not only my own driving skill but the abilities of my Brat too. The trail i did last sunday was the crystal ridge trail, more info here http://nwjeepn.com/CrystalRidge.htm It lives up to its rating even when its dry (high of 103 that day) and i would think it would be almost impossible when wet (unless you have a winch and like using it a lot) The trail is somewhat split into west and east halves. The west being mostly hill climbs and descents, and the east holding the toughest climb and then winding through tight forests. A couple spots where off camber and bad placement could mean rolling over. My Brat made it through almost all of it without a problem. Only needed assistance twice, once in a mud whole when the ruts were too deep for my clearance, and the other on the toughest hill when i opted to avoid climbing the rock face and instead try the very loose and steep hill climb . Had to winch out of that one. Anyways enough talk, pictures and video say it all And here is the link to a video Wish i could have gotten more action shots, but there was only two of us. And just so you know, my rig is pretty stock for offroad capability (just a weber and 26" snow tires) so i cant wait to see how she will perform with my new welded diff (thanks Bill) and when i get lifted. If anyone was wanting to do some offroading at WCSS 12 this is a good taste of what you can expect. I plan to explore more trails in the area before wcss, and if people want to do a little offroad shindig we can get something going -Andy

Did some light wheelin yesterday. Headed up and over Colockum Pass to Wenatchee, then drove back to Ellensburg over Table Mountain. It was a nice loop with some great views. Though i must say Colockum Pass is the roughest back road i have EVER been on. Took two hours to go from pavement to pavement but it was worth it at least once to say ive done it. Couple pics Some Wildlife Tomorrow will be some real wheelin though. Heading out with a jeep buddy to hit Crystal Ridge Trail http://nwjeepn.com/CrystalRidge.htm Should be interesting If anyone else wants to come let me know tonight and we can meet up tomorrow. -Andy

Added supports to the stock tie down points today. I think this bumper is pretty stout now Next i think i am going to order some shackle mounts from online to weld on. Skid plate will come after the lift so i dont have to re do it. -Andy

Got to use the shop at school, mig with argon is much better than mig without argon So with the nice lincon i re-welded the bumper and added some supports to counter side pulls Tomorrow if i can i will be adding more goodies -Andy

Jump Seats into 86 BRAT with Custom Frame
Fenix747 replied to Fenix747's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Thanks! Yea it was the ignitor inside the disty that went out. Replaced that and she started right up -Andy -
Ive seen some people asking around about mounting jump seats into Brats that didn't come with them, like mine. So here is my approach to doing so. First off you should know that i only had the seats, i did not have the stock frame that Subaru used. So i had to improvise even more than others might. To accomplish this i used what materials i had available, i try to be cheap so this meant some scrap angle iron that my uncle had laying around. I decided to make a frame on the seat itself and mount that to the bed. So i cut the angle iron to i believe 13 inch lengths so they would fit under the seat as so Then i welded another piece onto the first to achieve a better angle for the seat to sit (much more comfortable when the seat is leaning back) The next part was a little tricky. I wanted to use two strips of the same angle iron and mount them into the bed via bolts trough the floor. It worked with the strip closest to the cab, but the other was right above the frame that the gas tank mounts to. So i did this instead I welded both strips to the bed and welded bolts sticking up to mount the front of the seats to. The bolt heads fit perfectly in the valleys of the bed. The other strip was clear of the frame underneath so i was able to drill holes straight through. I welded the bolts for the rear onto the seat frames so they would drop through. With this set up i can take out one seat, or both seats. Yes the two strips of angle iron are more permanent, but i dont see it as being in the way of anything. The benefit is that i plan to make a box that will fit and mount to the same spot as the seats, that way when i need extra dry cargo room i would have it. Only other problem i ran into was the ability to fasten down the front bolts, so i did a little cutting and problem solved Final Product Overall i really like the way it turned out. It is very strong and should do well. What I like most is the options I have since each seat is removable individually. Only thing left to do is mount some seat belts (should be easy as bolting them to the side of the seat frame i made) and head rests. Let me know what you all think, Thanks! -Andy

PROGRESS Got some stuff done at my uncles place. Used his scrap and did all of this without spending a dime Ill make a thread about how i mounted the jump seats, worked out nicely. (Edit- here is the thread http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=114001 ) The bumper is made of 1/4 inch 3x3 angle and is no where near done, just road worthy. Still need to add supports to the stock tie downs and to the engine cross member, then incorporate a skid plate on the supports. Also need shackle mounts and hitch receiver. Eventually i might add a stinger Tires and lift should be coming soon. Almost ready to hit the trails again -Andy

She lives replaced the ignitor in the disty and fired right up (thanks for the tip jacob) So now i have a spare distributor and a spare coil Time to get back to work. Hope to get lifted, bumpers, roll bar, and jump seats put in before WCSS. More updates to come as things move along -Andy

Ive heard plenty of good things about those tires but not many bad, care to explain? -Andy

Havent been on any yet, my Brat isnt running right now. But when its going again i will be checking out as many trails as i can in the cle elum/liberty area before winter (a lot of the trails close for winter). Always up for some wheelin so just let me know -Andy

Exit 38 has some logging roads and such, its also a very popular rock climbing crag when its dry. For some light wheelin you might want to check this out http://nwjeepn.com/WAtrails.htm#cleelum got some good trails out your back door if you do move to cle elum. -Andy

Little Update So as some of you may know my brat has been down since the Brat Meet, cause is thought to be a bad distributor. Havent been able to get much done, finished spring quarter and moved across town. But now i got time to get things going again. Taking a Welding class this summer so i should be able to get some stuff done like bumpers and a frame for these beauties Picked them up last week in seattle for a good price, just gotta build a frame and i figured a 4 point harness will do nicely. So thats where she stands right now, hopefully up and running again soon. I dont know if it will be ready for the walker valley trip, if not i think a naches trip is in order Oh and Bill, sorry i havent come down lately, but i am getting those axles done poor mans parts cleaner  Should have them re-booted friday when the parts store gets in more boots, so ill probably come down sunday or next week if your around. Ill get some more axles done for ya. And if anyone else out there needs some axles re-booted or cleaned up let me know, i dont mind the mess -Andy

Fenix747 replied to Fenix747's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yea i made it home fine, That new cable was all twitch needed and he towed me home. The two problems that happened on this trip both happened at that stop sign Twitch fried a wire then as i was sitting next to him my car died. Thinking now its the distributer, it wasnt latched down all the way Other than that i think the meet turned out awesome! Had a great time and met some great people. Thanks to all who showed up and made this happen, definitely going to try and make this happen next year too! -Andy -
Any snow still up there? I know last time i headed up that way i couldnt even get to the trails cuz there was a couple feet of left over crap. But once im lifted the snow wont matter
