    Rally GLs?

I'm considering building my GL-10 for light rally duty, nothing serious, mostly dirt roads with minor elevation changes and a few ruts. Afterall, this car has to be my daily driver, too. But anyways, what should I do for suspension? I'd like to get a heavy duty set of shocks/springs because cars ARE known for occasionally leaving the ground when I'm behind the wheel. And I'm thinking a set of better anti-sway bars would be good, too. But as far as I know, nobody makes anything like this for the GL-10, so what parts (for what vehicles) would be easiest to modify to work with the GL? Most of my rally conversion will be looks, too. I'm a rally fan, but can't afford to do the real thing, so I'll put a lightbar on the front and proudly flaunt the decals of the brands that make the products I install. Anyone got pics of older subie wagons used for rally? You know, for a little inspriration?
  2. Whoa, NW Off Road and Hatch Patrol are basically one club from what I see. I've heard a lot about hatch patrol... good things, well built cars, great members, etc.
  3. See that's what I'm confused about. The car say "FULL-TIME AWD" on the side and it's the type where you remove the fuse under the hood to put it in AWD, or put it in for FWD. No lever or switch. It was a 1989 BMW 525i w/ the M20 engine and auto transmission.
  4. And just for the record, this club isn't a USMB-only thing. It's being covered on quite a few Subaru forums.
  5. Actually, the one member who blogs about it is me. I'm just waiting to get a hold of the title to my bmw so that I can truly finalize stuff.
  6. Awww... come on, my club name is so much cooler! And it includes rally! lol
  7. Yeah, but a GM 14-Bolt is going to hold up a lot better than a Subie diff. Hell, a Toyota 8" will probably hold up better. Welding the rear diff stresses the diff, axleshafts, and tires quite a bit when cornering.
  8. I vote NWDirtySubie... oh wait, that's the club I'm starting. Why don't we merge? http://NWDirtySubie.webs.com
  9. I'm going to keep my eye on this thread. I think I'm probably going to do most of the same to my own GL-10 wagon.
  10. SJR makes an adapter plate and flywheel adapter for an EJ25 swap, but if I do an EJ25 swap, I'm going to do a manual trans swap, too. But I don't really need a lot of power, just a bit more than what I've got. I think a complete motor swap is a little overkill for my little GL
  11. Can't find the beater 'Yota, but these might be of interest http://bellingham.craigslist.org/pts/1377626362.html The axles on this are fullsize, but cheap http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/1374710270.html And some Jeeps. I don't know about track width, but I'm sure they could work http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/1368633451.html http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/1352362543.html Can't remember if this generation of Trooper has a solid front axle or not, but here's a possibility http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/1374758360.html
  12. There's a beater Yota 4x4 on Bellingham Craigslist. I'll see if I can find it.
  13. Why don't you just embed the pics? I like the setup, probably what I'll do on mine.
  14. I'd find a way to SAS the front, too, that'd be crazy-awesome.
  15. Hey, you're local, cool!

  16. Well that's what I'm afraid of. Not you getting bashed, that's your own problem to deal with. An old vehicle that can't take much boost. From the factory, the EA82T had 115 hp. I'd like to tune up the motor and get it to the condition where it's probably making that again, and then focus my efforts on getting 150 hp.
  17. About how much boost can the stock EA82T internals take? And how about the auto transmission in my GL-10 waggy? I'd like to retro-fit a slightly larger turbo into the system, but I don't want to go overboard and melt a piston in the process. P.S. andysautosport.com doesn't seem to carry anything for the older Subies. Anyone know of a site like it that carries accessories for these cars?
  18. Forgot to mention, it's the turbo model
  19. I've heard some horror stories about welding Subie rear diffs. I believe the Lokka is an option. It's not a true locker, but it's better than nothing.
  20. Definitely integrate. It'll look a lot cleaner.
  21. I think the BRAT is the only one on that list that I actually like. lol
  22. Hey, I just got a 1988 GL-10 wagon. Ok, so I won't have it until Sunday, but the deal has been finalized. I'm trading my old-school bmw plus a little bit of cash for it. It's in pretty good shape. It's maroon with gold-ish 13" rims. It's got FWD and full-time AWD. At one point, it had the auto leveling rear air suspension, but that got taken out. I'm going to tap the fuse box and make the auto level switch be a FWD/AWD toggle switch. Eventually, it'll get an SJR 4" lift and 27" tires, but that will be a ways off since I'm broke right now. The paint is pretty badly oxidized on the roof, so I'll probably camo it or paint it flat grey with WWII style shark mouths on the side, or something unique-yet-cool like that. Anywho, I'll get pics up on Sunday when I get it.
