  1. lol thanks guys. ill try polishing the outside with toothpaste and see how that works since i dont have to go buy anything to try it
  2. ah thanks for that website. didnt really find a used engine that is "Cheaper" than an engine rebuild.
  3. my headlights are kind of dull even after i put new brighter bulbs in there. from the looks of things the inside of the headlight lens is pretty nasty. how exactly do i clean that?
  4. 1. 230k miles on the car. dont know if it has the stock engine or anything. 2.this is my DD. manual tranny. its in pretty good condition. synchro for first gear is a little messed up but not that bad really. 2nd gear wants to whine a little bit sometimes. i want my subie to last forever 3.i would probably set aside roughly a week to do the rebuild. i just want to rebuild it. not exactly sure what that would cost in parts. never taken a boxer all the way out of a car before. i have helped take other engines out of other cars tho. and ya i have a friend who has worked on subarus for a long time so i could call him and ask him for advice. 4.ya i have a protected place to work where everything will stay dry. 5.im sure it would be EASIER to get a different engine to put in it. where exactly could i find a used engine?
  5. well i think the rings are shot in my engine. i have a 94 legacy. it sometimes smoked just a little when i start it up but i know when i get on it real hard when im driving its smoking. would rebuilding my engine be to extremely hard?
  6. seems ive had good luck so far. left front bearing on my FWD 94 legacy started making a lot of noise. so me and a friend tore it all down. took the hub to a shop where we used their torch to heat a little of it up then used a screwdriver and a hammer to beat out the old bearing. pressed in the new one and went home. reassembled it and i havent had a problem with it.
  7. to test if its your rear diff just take the fwd fuse out. you will know then. who knows could be different things causing that
  8. well since ive had my car the check engine lights been on. doesnt really do anything to drivability but im ready to fix it! its throwing out a code 35. beleive thats Canister purge solenoid valve so exactly whats the problem and how do i fix it?
  9. that would probably be your differential. when my wheel bearing started going out i had to ask a friend of mine WTF is that sound. he said it was the bearing. sound got worse. and worse. then i fixed it.
  10. you might be able to get away with 205/75/14s but i would really only go up to a 195/75/14. been thinking of changing tire sizing myself on my legacy
  11. unless the end of the crank is mangled i dont see what the mechanic could be complaining about.
  12. well you can permanently attach your crank pulley to your crank sprocket. i just advise against this since it could make such a headache down the road.
  13. well the 98 is a phase 2 ej while the 93 was a phase 1. not sure if it would work or not. dont know much about it.
  14. this happened to me on my 94 legacy. didnt leave me stranded at least. picked up a new pulley for 50 bucks. took my stuff off to get down to the crank key. ground it off flush then had to grind down in the crank sprocket a little bit to get it loose. took off the crank sprocket and put my new key in and reassembled everything. i put like 200+ pounds of torque on the crank pulley bolt so it wont do it again! edit- when reassembled you HAVE to put at least something like 130 pounds. in the manuals i think it says to do it 95 lbs in some and 120 in others. i really prefer 150 minimum and of course i went 200 pounds just to make sure. no problems yet
  15. there ya go noah i filled some stuff out and btw i live close to Ashville North Carolina
  16. http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44187 not a bad price i dont figure. to bad everything is a decent drive away for me.
  17. you guys are all having one hell of a time! i always break something offroading lol
  18. see if you can fix it up first. always good to see someone with a subie
  19. we dont want to loose more turbo subs? whats wrong with the turbo engine that warrants taking it out?
  20. has it been sitting for a while or anything? i would make sure all plugs, wires, etc is good first. then run the car a little if its been sitting to make sure the HLAs are pumped up. if you still have problems its something else. something i have no idea what it would be other than a sensor maybe i dunno
  21. awesome man you got a great deal. will be a wonderful ride for you.
  22. hmm ill have to take some pictures tommarow. want em with the mud on the car or off? have yet to wash it and it could be either way
