  1. thats what i was thinking about the ecu...thanks for the tips....hey about your friend the rally driver...is he from canada??
  2. its not seized i can run it...its just powerless...it has a tick that sounds like a rod knock....not to mention when i first got it running it sounded like i was cutting something on a lathe in a metal shop.... I just found it so weird that it was so catastrophic...there was still about a quart when i noticed the oil leak...there was no light...engine temp was normal...im sure it may be fixed, but the engine has almost 300k as it is and there may be other wear all in all i could get a 2.5 longblock for pretty cheap...or another 2.2 for cheap as free.... you think it has something to do with the coil??
  3. Hello all, Here comes another round of "why and the heck would anyone know that" questions from yours truly 1. I have heard speculation that a ecu from a 97 2.2l impreza would work on any pre 2000 2.5 litre...true or false 2. If i put a post 2000 SOHC 2.5 i know i would need an ECU but...isnt that a drive by wire setup??? could i swap in the cable t-body??? what are my options here...or just get a new pedal set?? Cory
  4. Nope the oil light never came on....i thought that was odd also Well it was a drain plug with a pepcock on it so that you can easily drain your pan...not a problem...only when your rallying around a field with tall grass I know i should probabally get a 2.2...but it is a project rally car...and 2.5 is still considered production and with more power....I could get a SOHC a little less prone to death...
  5. ***Update*** Hear what it sounded like via a recording from my friends phone, let me know if you recognize the sound Squeal of death Knock of death Related Post http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=332229#post332229 ***Update Ends*** Hello all, A sad day today....due to my own stupidity Went out to a friends house to do some rallying....fun day running around....then all of a sudden the car started dying...puzzled i looked under the car to see oil pouring out of the EZ drain oil plug i should have taken out....needless to say im running on 2 cylinders now the others with ring damage and perhaps more......sucky I would like to replace this with a 2.5 litre, so i would need the ECU as well...anyone got one??? let me know or perhaps some good import places around the Portland/Seattle area. I checked CCR and they wanted almost $4k with no core exchange.....YIKES:-\ Any help would be appreciated Thanks Cory
  6. yeah in hillsoboro in june i hit 3 total.....this time i got 10:banghead: "you got to keep on keeping on, cant have no in your heart" - Joe Dirt
  7. yeah it was hot...i had fun but dissapointing for me...i was trying to go way too fast and cones cost me to last in PGT.....i guess someones got to be at the bottom....
  8. Hey i wanted to just say thanks to edrach for the RallyX updates....i am always interested in rally events in the PDX area....i just noticed there were no replies to your threads and did want you to feel like you werent appreciated =0)
  9. yeah...what he said:lol: The thing with the "multimeter" and "pinout".....a multimeter like explained, is a device for measuring multiple electical measures....ohms, volts, amps, frequency, etc....voltage is really all you need. Get yourself a pinout for your vehicle.....youll need to look around but here is a example for the early legacies http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/swap/3-2_TCU_I-O_page1.jpg http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/swap/3-2_TCU_I-O_page2.jpg Youll see that on the second page there are a bunch of solenoids, what pin they report on and what voltage during what situation they should be....you then need to start testing the duty solenoids etc..to see if you get erratic results...if so you may need a new TCU.....blah blah blah... thats about it
  10. Mine went away for about 5 months.....and came back later swinging harder....not trying to rain on your parade...just letting you know. Seems that the usual suspects are 1. Alignment, tire pressure, fluid 2. DUTY SOLENOID C (Its supposed to give you a CEL but mine didnt and that turned out to be the issue) 3. TCU or some short in the wiring Harness, get yourself a TCU pinout and go to town with a multimeter. Though the best solution is to get a 5 speed Have fun

  12. to revive this old thread.....If i had STI Strut tops, springs and struts...they would work in my GC body style impreza? Cory
  13. Have some 04 STI springs....will they fit WRX struts as far as spring size... Cory
  14. interesting...well i guess we will check the timing belt....thanks for the info on the HG's...if i take it to a suby dealer is the additive free or do we have to pay?
  15. http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html Go to modifications and AWD Swap....Josh did his on a legacy and needed a new gas tank...this is a complete write up on what you will need....have fun..
  16. Hey yall, Have a friend buying a 2000 forester with the Phase II SOHC 2.5...couple of questions 1. IS this as prone to HG failure as the phase I and if so where can they get the goop to help prevent it 2. Is this interference or non-interference Thanks yall Cory
