YAY! There are 16 of them in the ATL warehouse!

Engine: spyder intake+xt6 throttle body TWE header+DP+2.5" stroght pipe either stock boost or more on autox course WRX TMIC remote oil filter+oil cooler stock for 89 RX automatic cams (same as all 87+ turbo cars?) Trans and some: RX D/R FT4WD+LSD, 3.70 final w/mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic engine oil in trans, and valvoline synth 75-90 in the LSD Suspension: Front: KYB GR2 2WD struts w/250 lb 10" tall springs and MRT camber/caster plates, solid lower control arm bushing Rear: Carerra damper w/height adjustable collar, solid bottom bushings, 350 lb spring. Other: poly steering rack bushing kit for GC8 (non-RA) Other: RX body kit in black, all factory GL-10 options (as its a GL-10) when the engine comes out I am maybe thinking the AC and PS is going for now as the PS lines are in the way of the header and the AC doesnt work since I had to discharge it to cut a bracket.... Driver: Excellent (this makes a big difference....had I been driving some of those other cars I beat, then the wagon would not have beat them, but im not saying those others were bad driver...they were good, but I was better)

DONT use NAPA headgaskets on a turbo subaru engine. They will blow at the time you least want it to, and leave you stranded and in search of a new shortblock many hundreds of miles away from home. It lasted 17k miles. Here's the best part..i was out running mod'ed WRX's WITH the blown HG. Thankfully, JWX is loaning me my old RX's shortblock, and the boys over on NASIOC in the atlanta area are helping me out a TON....the car is in a shop right now, and SOA is going to get me a pair of headgaskets out of the atlanta warehouse tomorrow providing that they have a set. Then i will be able to swap things over and hopefully the heads wont be warped so much that they wont be able to be used..... So....DONT use anything but OE for the EA82T unless you get some copper ofr those *i cant remember the name* HGs that TWE is going to have made for their project cars that hold 40+ PSI all day long.

The suspension is near perfect now....very stickey, faster than WRX's on course.... Engine=blowed up. NAPA headgaskets finally let go. 17k miles. Now im stuck in atlanta.....oh well.

carfreak85: yeah it was alot...but I was rushed so I didnt take my time to see what was going on... :-\ Marck: The PS lines on the pass side where they shoot forward is where the header lays on them in stock position. I figured out why too....on a DRAG car no one needs PS at all...so they had all the room they coudl have needed for the header....my lines are ULTRA CLOSE to the header, but I've not had problems yet... it SHOULD need a bracket, and I would HIGHLY recommend one to be made like the stock one to fit the new header...but at this time I have not done so. The stock DP will fit, but it will change where it sits...i have not tried this personally tho....looks like the WRX ones will fit BETTER with the header. YES the header moves the turbo....UP and BACK. Just right so you can get to things more easily and install a later series VFxx/TD0x turbo too I might add. SO FAR...in the FEW FEW runs I have one the car...YES the turbo does come to full boost later, around 2800-2900 as compared to before with 2400-2500. Reasons: THe stock header was desined for max TQ of the engine at 2800...therefor it was able to spool the turbo by having the exhaust velocity maxed out in the low range...but severely limiting power up high... The TWE header takes more time to build up the velocity due to larger pipes...but midrage and up is MUCH MUCH 1000000x better. Again, I will test more. on another note...Ive got WRX TMIC and a LARGE throttle body on the spyder intake...i noticed on other cams and stock exh set up that it spooled later as well...could be due to it trying to fill the larger volume of the intake system....again, I will run more tests and see....

The header and DP are EXTREAMLY strong construction. DP has a bracket on it, intended to fasten its self to the transmission...it will NOT work on all transmissions...as it doesnt come close to mine. the turbo flange on the header uses thru bolts. Cool. IMPORTANT!!!! The turbo position is going to change! the stock header bracket is no longer needed. You WILL NEED a longer upper coolant hose and a longer oil return hose. Using JUST the header will change the DP location....NOT advisable to use ONLY the header or DP on a system....UNLESS you are going custom anyways.... you will need to jack the engine up off the engine crossmember to install header. PS lines are IN THE WAY. Moving them will be REQUIRED for header install. My oil lines were in the way...had to move them.... pics to come. Its all installed. oh and...it makes the engine pitch WAY different...almost like equal lenght headers, AND...midrange+ is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! Turbo comes on full about 400 rpms later now. But then again...i do have different cams now...stock 89 turbo cams for automatic RX. The install was long and hard...but after I got it done and routed a STRAIGHT PIPE 2.5 inch to the passenger side...jsut behind the rear door....OMG...sounds AWESOME!!!!!!! In the end...its worht the $600 for both and the long hard install.

All i can say is EAT THAT BAD WEATHER AND THINGS GOING WRONG!!!!!!!! I spend most of 13 hrs today working on the sube...no breaks for food or anything except for taking a leak!! At the end I did the cam change...and didnt even line up the flywheel...i just said F it, im tired, and if I get it right on the one and only try i will give it, then i just plain good. pass cam, drivers cam, start all over with the dizzy...IC and crap back on...IG on...push start button....vvvvrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! TO LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!! TWE header/DP and 2.5 inch stright pipe out the side!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah..the control arm bushings didnt work out..as Gen 2 and Gen 3 are diff diameters....oh well. Gave me ideas for the solid one i did install tho... Got the new tires heat cycled in. Need to tune timing. made a block off plate for hwy/non race driving so i can get MPGs and shift super easy...IE: no big movements in throttle back off'age.... Ummm...19MM XT turbo front sway bar on...wow...1mm bigger than before..but still helps some. And....decals are on the car. It needs wax and to be prepped for tomorrow's journey. And then........ Im hungry and tired. off ta bed yo....

Stuff just doent go right when you need it to...
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
its the 677-260 officially...and thats what I have...but they've been in 4 different engines over the last year...and progressively gotten worse. I say F it and I will talk to delta about it later....i bet its not their fault tho... and I can say.........MUHUAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~~!!!!!!!!11!!!!!! -

as a side note...i will be there with the car ready to kick rump roast even if I have to work up until its absolutely time for me to leave for atlanta.... -
So, im working on the wagon this morning, and gotta get it running....all of a sudden...RAIN. Crap. SO I work on the car for 2 hrs in the rain, hurrying things along that dont need to be, so that I can get it done before more rain gets here...so...its alive, and it stops raining. Ok cool. CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK WTF?!??!?! Cams are prematurely wearing...they are loose on the followers. getting worse. Now i gotta change out cams. AGAIN!!! I JUST PUT THESE IN!!!! the rest seems to work...I CANNOT route the BOV/Recirv valve...stuff is in the way...so i am back to this POS driving condition...surge idle...wont idle...anything above 3300 RPM's and air wooshed out the BOV and runs rich as hell and no power.....and thats I state speeds that i need to travel with for FOUR HOURS friday.....GRRRRR Now, the control arm bushings are here...and they are entirely too big. GRRRRR....something is screwy here.... BUT...TWE header and DP arrived today. SWEET. Tomorrow I have to fab an exhaust for them....looks liek that is ONE thing that will go right.... and just for variety, I will swap in the 87+ turbo cams and get those NOISY NOISY freakin cams out....Delta did a good job...but...I dont know what's wrong. THey didnt do this in the racer RX....started to in the DL...did some more in the grassroots RX...now they are UNBEARABLE in the GL-10...not worht the extra 1000 rpms of upper range they give per valvetrain noise. [/VENT] got pics of the TWE stuff...installing tomorrow along with stock cams, modded bushings and DPBE....

It took the dealer 3 weeks to get it here from Japan
WJM replied to GLCraig's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Indeed...to bad it really does take 3 weeks for it to ship from JAPAN...most of that time is jsut crossing the ocean on a boat... -
i think that after the USMB prepaid is shipped off, there will be afew headers an DP's avalibe for a while. We ordered 10 of each at the time.
-
that and the top hats are usually rusted together and crap...i know dis... but if you find another set...i woudl be interested in the odl set you ahve.

Power steering rack boot interchageability?
WJM replied to Flow's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try and find out... if I had my subaru EPC working...i woudl look it up...but it dont work rite now... -
u can get the Outback body/frame spacers for an extra 1 inch. and this is nuts...USMD legacy turbo, the original one...lift? Rally i understand....but lift...?????? EIther way...sweet score. and i know some people who woudl come after you in your sleep for even thinking lift and USDM legacy turbo in the same sentence...
-
id leave the wheels black if I were you...but other wise it does look great. On the other hand...if you had the 2000 RS (6 spoke I think)wheels, in white that would be awesome. Or WRX wheels...or maybe the Legacy turbo (early)ones... Maybe I will see the car in person at an autox sometime next year...
-
arch, they have been making headers for a long time i think...i dont know much about the turbo ones, but they have made NA ones since forever. MSSLGECKO: fits EA81T's too.

Gotta have some Old School Representation....
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We were in the back lot of Performance SUBARU in the Chapel Hill NC area...big GM/BMW/Porsche and SUBARU dealer. MANY new STi's there...along with enough Legacy GT's for us to use two of them as ride and drivers for the day. I had high praises for the GT automatic....BUT...the shifter in the floor is BACKWARDS! Need to the upshift is back...not forward! -
Mods to come in the next few days...
WJM replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
PS rack bushings in. Delta cams in. waiting on control arm bushings, should be here wed...same for TWE stuff. Now, to finnish the spyder/XT6 conversion and fuel system and it should be alive again. -
Ok guys, lets get a SE meet going some time in NC....how abouts it? Or we can do GA/TN/VA/SC..... Sometime in Dec maybe?
-
I know this is kinda my fault for being on the right coast...but really, there is no 'meets' of any sort over here out east...except for the car show in PA and one of the east coast meets that I cannot seem to get to...and once upon a time, Pleaides had an RX...so that constituted old schoolness...and Warp3. So thats when I started going to the NASIOC South east meets...usually there is a meet once a month in Western NC, sometimes a meet in Charlotte, and usually once or twice a month the people in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area get together during the week.... Lately Ive been going to all the NASIOC stuff I can with the wagon. I seem to be pretty well accepted there, as I have become good freinds with some people. Ive not been involved in the soap opera of the supposid "war" between NASIOC and USMB...but do here that there is one for the folks in the PNW area....while it IS true that its natual for the people who own the newer car to look down upon the older ones...and the owners of the cars tend to be a complately different demograph them selves....there ARE those who are mized in the groupe...some of us have the newer cars...a few of us even have STi's...some of us have WRX's...some of us RS...others plain jane EJ cars...some of us have the lifted super 4x4 rigs...some lightly modded 4x4 rigs...some of us plain jane 4x4 or 2wd rigs...some look great, others are suffering from rust and paint fade.... Then there are the small group of those who have the uncommon GL-10's and RX's and build them for power and handling....then those who just have them and not modded... Whatever the case may be, and tho our interests are different, there is a few things in common that SHOULD bring the people of all SUBARU message boards together...SUBARUs, and the individual personalization of one's SUBARU (aka MODS). While its true that said WRX/STi owner may not know what a nissan transfer case or BYB/PK lift is....its also true that said 4x4 rig owner may not know what a ECUtek is....and so on.... I encourage ALL of us to intertwine with all SUBARU enthusiasts everywhere, and bring the SUBARU community together, and to make is larger...to make our voices not be scattered and few...but to make a larger and more unifying one...from there we can really get our part into the picture and further enjoy being a SUBARU owner/enthusiast!

how do i make a turbo spool faster?
WJM replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
an anti lag system will PULVERIZE the stock header....the way the fuel is dumped and the way the sparking is used...it bascially creates explosions of the hot fuel air mixture in the header and thus spooling the turbo even with the throttle only partially open or mostly closed..IE: at idle. The TWE header might stand up to anti lag...but...i dont know. Anti lag systems are expensive and would require FULL engine management and DIS too. The stock header and turbo is best for qucik spool as long as you open up the TBE and intake sides. -
u should have hijacked it....but no one would ahve responded to it internally here... :-p
