Tom is on here every once in a while.... The sweet ride...must...unfortunatly...rest for now.

Rings were already almost shot when the engine was put in (170K miles of abuse by prev owner...and 1000 miles of racing abuse in my other RX) So...my guess...is that the rings on one piston totally went...but then agian...i found some chucks of piston metal...which makes me think a piston melted due to poor injector spray pattern...as Ive got those modded injectors installed.

Im not going to start another argument.....it'll end up like the dispute over the EJ22E...which Ive still yet to pull heads and take pics.

Hey now! THat was after the fact! Fact=smoke everywhere and it woulndt go no more
-
Well, first, I was playing with my enrichen'd mixture and ejoying massive clutch slip at 12 PSI when my rear suspension broke and I had to limp it home. So...after spending 2 hrs replaceing that with stock RX units and uprated/short spring...I was back out on the road...12 PSI...oh NOES! power dissapear...smoke everywhere. Stop, pull over...oil everywhere. Oh, the dip stick popped out again. Ok...back in...crank...no crank...slow slow slow...FInally, after mahing the gas it fired to life...sligh knocking noise...low power. GRRR. SO, flog it back home...post this...put it in on the concrete pad to rip all the suspension off so it can go on the RX...REV to 7K at 14 PSI (floored, no load) HOld it for a few mins...and it wont blow up. It wont idle. Its knocking like crazy and spitting oil everywhere. I think im done with EA82T's for a while.

There some blokes in OZ/NZ that have done it. They say its a direct swap in. IIRC.

...for an EJ25 conversion. EJ57 short block (USDM STi engine) Cobb spicey cams 11:1 static compression (accomplished thru STi headgasket, new pistons/rods and headwork) 1998 spec RS DOHC heads 2000+ engine management system+aftermarket ECU (meaning MAP no MAF!) 9 lb flywheel and 'semi-race' clutch (have not picked a brand yet) Balanced and 'knife edged' crank (a Paeco thing) STi Group N engine/trans mounts (the XT6 tranny mount for the RX D/R box allows use of the EJ series tranny mounts) And for the RX box... RA gear set WRX Viscous coupling center diff Phantom grip front diff (25% weaker than stock rear LSD specs) Rebuilt rear LSD, 25% stronger than stock specs NOT! :-p But that is whats in the works.... Seriously, its time to play with fuel amount delivery with my engine. I believe the reason for its high RPM power issues and high boost/RPM lack of balls is the lack of FUEL up there....mainly because I have messed with the spring tension on the air flow meter...letting it lean out of high....ofcourse, the 3 MAF cars i had never did this because there was no way to mess it up! So...im gonna go make the spring tension less...thereby making the ECU dump a little more fuel....my RX in STOCK form (well, gutted cats and cherry bomb on stock diameter exh) will pull strong to 6500. The wagon with all its high flow stuff only gets to 6k before 'running out of breath'....its not supposed to do that. TWE header/DP, large TB with spyder manifold and a custom intake with WRX TMIC and the same cams as the 87+ turbo cars. Hm...must be fuel starving after all. Oh...and why would I want an NA built EJ25? Because you put your foot down and there is instant power. Thats what makes Shane/Warp3's RS so fast on an autox course...the Cobb cams/exhaust puts the engine at 200 hp and a little over 200 TQ...insta power. Rockets out of the corners at any RPMs. Turbo=Lag no matter what. Fully built EJ25=240 hp instantly.

Bad JuJu to re-use axle spring pins?

So I just got done welding up my new exhaust...the kind with a 2.5 inch 3 way cat, and a 2.5 inch 'cherry bomb'....the whole system is 2.5 from the turbo back, with the TWE header and DP. Its...like...quiet now. Its as loud as it used to be with the stock header/DP and no cats...and that was quiet. Like...imagine the exhaust note on a stock STi...its only a little bit louder than one of those....hmmm...maybe I need to make it louder again...? Nah...sleeper effect. Pics to come soon...progress is happening with the PS/AC re-install, the steering column is fixed and installed. PS lines are the only thing left...I think.

EA82 axles and XT6 axles. What are the differences?
WJM replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Different lenght and I think the outer stuff is different due to some kind of bearing difference....but im no expert on the XT6 stuff... -
