HAHAHAHAHA. That should show you that EA82Ts are tough as nails....thats a FACTORY engine...never been cracked into. Its the ones that have been cracked into that we cant get to hold together long like that for some reason...
-
Will what bolt in?
-
Remember...thats a GOOD thing. And dont forget...I was NOT the one who flogged it around mostly daily at 17PSI....that was Pleiades.
-
I know. But its done. Its like the Luxobarge now.
-
I know. I flogged the $h1t out of it. Never did that either.
-
So...WOT accell, in 3rd gear only...and ONLY when its cold out, 40 deg or less... Gets to the 3k to 5k range...and randomly in that range in 3rd gearpull...fuel/ignition cut for about 1/4 of a second. Any ideas? Mods: cone on the MAF, stock dia exhaust with gutted cats and cherry bomb. The rest is stock...but its stright up waste gate and not hooked up to the factory boost controller.

RX is new Race car. wagon=retired. wagon=??? engine next. (NA most likely, and back to daily driver)
-
These are old subies...and most of the time...ppl dont take proper care of them...and...well, stuff breaks cuz it doesnt last forever. But mostly...these cars are tough as nails and will keep on going with a little TLC and proper care! The DL was the smallest $ pit...i spends $130 on the car...and invested about $150 more in the whole car...and sold it for about that same price...i think...? Otherwise...the 89 RX that JWX has ive invested $2500...and the 88 was about...well, not as much, but about $800. The current RX....that $ is classified! But...the wagon....golly....about $6000 invested...and its sitting on 4 jack stands with a blown engine (gone thru 5 since I got it) and NO suspension at all. im still optimistic...especially after today's results about all my investments so far...so...dont dispair!!

Outside Temp Probe installed in Intake
WJM replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My RX doesnt have one.... -
For ONCE...we agree! BUT...so be on the safe side...bump the dizzy back just a tad of a bump (retard it by like 2MM....yes, 2MM not 2 deg...lol) The stock EA82T just dumps loads of fuel to cure detonation...so...back it off a little and see what it does... as for the actual sound...ive never heard that sounds from an engine like that...and ive heard almost every engine sound possible from an EA82T... :-p

So...after an autocross...I have come to the optinion that the 87+ turbo engine setup/engine management is better. The pre MAF stuff takes some real tuning and adjusting to make work in the 5500+ range so that the 6000-6500 is useable....and you've got to be careful with timing and the vac unit too. 87+ ofcourse MAF is non adjustable, no vac advance...so its "self tuning" to a certin degree....way more so than the pre MAF...so...eeet eeez bettAr. That and I was only 2.5 secs or so off the Fastest time of the day(in the RX with wagons suspension), Pleiades in his 2.5 RS (used to be mine)...with Tein HA Coilovers, V700 race tires and so on and such...so...ive got much room for improvement. Still can add header, DP, intercooler and spyder intake and so on and such...but Im not going to do the intake stuffs yet...just exhaust...intime for the state autox championship if i cant co drive a certin black 2.5 RS in street mod... Oh...and I need some different rear springs...8" tall...400# rate=fastAr!

JWX: contact the solo2 nut with the "rex" gen 2 coupe.
-
Yeah.....good points.
-
Ditto....but it is 400...rally teams in canada built 400 hp EA82T's in the early 90s. My main goal is a 280 hp one...daily driveable and reliable for 30k miles in that state of tune....with an effective powerband from 3k to 6500-7000.
-
Dude...just take the stuff apart...clean out the mice nest...and its good as new! I know that the front struts are plenty good....so Im going to suspect, like I always have, that the bushings are totally Foo-bar'd...since it is a northern/winter car...salt+rubber=no more rubber.
-
You can run the same tires as JWX on the stock subie rims with NO clearance issues and run them hard into t3h ground! I should know...I run them every day and have run them from my wagon, to a DL to all 3 RX's ive had... Want a set??? BF Goodrich 205/60/13 Comp T/A HR4 Legends Edition, All season High Performance tire. Ive had them over 130 MPH...they seemt o hold up well against anything...dirt, mud, snow (tho not as much!) sand, dry/wet pavement...burnouts...autocrosses....

We got the XT before the rest of the world! It has been stated.... Its got the complete gearbox... And im sure an RA gearset will work in ANY EJ trans...as many RS guys have done...and ofcourse many WRX people...so im sure they will fit into the Legacy/Forester D/R boxes...never seen an impreza with D/R...but its entirely possible knowing subaru and their wagons... And with the piston valve contact...ive seen a stock one go all to h3ll when a valve stuck max open and the piston came up...i know they are not interferance...but how did that one happen? Also...that RX had higher lift cams and a different set of pistons...that ='s less clearance valve-piston...so...boom when not time'd right....
-
Dont we all.... :-p
-
No no....remember what the cylinder walls looked like? The history of the engine? No...I added a little fuel...that should not cause the blow up. But the injectors might have helped....stilll....reember the crap taht came out of the block?
-
Skip, You've got one of the magical EA82Ts! If the rest of us can just build an EA82T to hold together like its supposed to (yours) then....sky's the limit.
-
http://www.redhillsbenz.co.nz/rallyteam/build.htm IIRC, this guy used to frequent the board...and that RX has the gearset in it. Ehhh...subarurx was his user name...just searched the car. a WRX RA box...the whole thing... than i wonder what crazy OZ guy...or maybe it was TWE that said the gear sets are interchangable on the 5 spds....
-
And Tex is having issues.... the only one not having problems is Shadow and Oddcomp....
-
No no no...you are not my father! The EA81T is! The wagon will return....the drive train it will feature is dependant upon what the RX's mission outcome is...
-
...is the RX. No intercooling...no fancy oil cooler setup...no boosting or strange intake setups....nothing...just a cat-gutted exhaust of stock diameter...with a cone filter on the intake (maybe not even that)....that is what the last hope rides on....an 80% stock EA82T running on Castrol 10w30 and an OE filter. Suspension...the Wagon's...minus the steering rack bushings, rear coil overs (more on that later) and the solid bushings.... The wagon...is at rest now. The Glory ride....able to carry whatever I see fit, to go almost anywhere, to lay smack down to the ricer who thought he had a fast ride....the object that turned the heads of everyone at autox'es and subaru gatherings...the fast little, old, and weird boxy subie wagon that it was...is no more. Its speed, agility, cargo capcity, the suprise that it was...will not be forgotten. Its impact...massive. "Man, thats fast! How'd you do that?" Legendary speed and agility it had....just barely breaking out with its new suspension and high flow engine goodies...is now broken...covered with oil and the wrong attitude..."ive had enough!" it said...and it said so with actions. Two engines in short order...and a very bandly shattered rear suspension. The Left rear coil over...went out in a blaze of sheered off glory and tire smoke. An hour later...that second engine...and no more...just a full shell of plush GL-10 interior...with no suspension and brakes to support it. The Grassroots RX....1987, first year of the RX/RX Coupe. Many hours of prep by myself and Pleiades went into this car to restore it to 100% showroom stock for the Grassroots challenge back in April. Now in my possesion, original plans for a soft daily ride and reliable daily transportation.... But now, its new mission...to carry the Last Hope of the EA82T....the final reliability test. Luke Skywalker to the Jedi Knights if you will. The RX's mission...10 grueling autox's...including the 24hrs in sept next year...along with daily driving, it MUST survive. No failures that require the long block to come apart. It will remain stock...except for a recirc valve, intake (pre MAF) and the exhaust as mentioned before. It already has the wagon's sucessful suspension...but the rear is RX dampers with a different set of springs as opposed to the coil overs... The RX...the final hope. If it fails....EJ land, that is where I will have to step.... To everyone else who marvels in the possible power of the EA82T...best of luck! May the SUBARU Force be will you all....and I hope it is strong within this RX....
