ECUtune ECU Reflash for EA82T
WJM replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll be investigating the information in this thread....again, I want a reflash option. -
reflashing thread, RISSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I want reflash, damnit!
-
I know this was discussed before...there were several ideas but no solutions/real answers... I need to be able to reprogram/reflash the stock ECU's on 87~89 turbo ECUs. Specifically my 87 RX. What needs to happen? The past threads i've read mentioned pulling the stock rom, yanking a chip off the ecu mainboard and soldering on a RAM-ROM chip....then dumping the stock ROM on it....then, you can start editing it. Anyone have more details?

Here's how to make the shocks stiffer: 1. Remove from car, take them out of the springs. 2. Drill hole in bottom of shock body. 3. Drain watery shock oil. 4. Tap threads into the drilled hold so you can seal it back up. 5. Fill the shock with proper amount of desired shock oil (could be engine oil or gear oil for all I care, i used 90W gear oil with my 600lb coilover springs). 6. Install plug. 7. Install back on car w/springs and junk. 8. Happy stiffness. 9. ???????????????? 10. PROFIT!!!!!!!!

************ I dont know. if anything DOES happen...it'll be about 2 years from now.

Simple. Reliable. Easy to service. Smaller than DOHC. Flows very nicely.

While'st I build on the STX/STU WRX...the RX awaits its final destiny. What is it? Who knows really...as I've lost my patience with it time and time again. The WRX is just NOT a practical car to turn into an SM car and be 'competitive' as its too heavy and you start spending lots of money on parts that break...aka transmissions and related. However, it is the 'Spec' car for STX...and with a few more tweaks it'll be a great compromise between fully prepped STX car and daily driver. SOOOOOOOOOOO............ EJ257+SOHC RS heads with 'OE' cams+16G=good. Then, an 'OE' 5MT that'll be more than fine to hold the power. Stock center diff, helical front, stock LSD rear. Then...tweak the suspension and front wheel bearings that actually WORK....viola. Oh, a stack display. I'll start working on this very slowly...

No. Not for sale.

My Rota 17x8's were the same way. However, those 245's were not 'Advan' wide (meaning they actually measured 245 instead of the Yoko Advan tires being advertised as 245 and measuring 255+) and did not protrude beyond the rim too much. The RE070's were the same way. I did get some rubbing on the inner body work, until i raised the car some. Then it handled like butt hole. Then i decided to un-5 lug and go back to 4 lug.

Ok, you've got the other 50%.

BTW The first outing of the RX in the ATL Region resulted in a win, and some nice drifting. However, it has been sitting since due to a lack of spares, time, energy, and money.

Well...to start off....I traded in my 2005 2.5 RS Sport Package'd Sedan 5MT in on this WRX. The WRX was purchased at a wholesale auction...looked good on the outside despite some small blemishes, and the interior was rather clean except for the head liner. The car was purchased for intentions of turning it around and reselling and making lots of $$$ on it. However...during my UVI (Used vehicle inspection...over 150 points of inspection)....there are LOTS wrong with this thing. In no particular order.... its got 91k miles on it...so its due for the timing belt/seals/waterpump, the aftermarket inlet pipe was ripped and leaking at every seam and hose junction, all 4 struts were missing proper hardware and were making lots of noises, the sway bars were clunking due to lack of lube, the boost control system was a nice mess and the car made little boost, intake parts were missing, it needs brakes all around...and...there is red clay-mud CAKED everywhere under the car. After a $4,000 estimate to return it to a SELLABLE condition...the Sales manager decided to send it back to auction. Thats when i punched in the numbers... I owed 16.7k on my RS. No way i can sell it outright for that. best trade in value is 13k. They paid 8,800 and some change for this car. That put it to 9,500 after shop bill, and all the other fees that the dealer has to charge ($499) Hmmm...can i roll my negative balance into this WRX? Yes. So it worked out that i paid 14,700 and some change out the door. So i came out 2g's on top, a LOWER payment, AND for a shorter term. Oh, and my interest rate was WAY better than on the RS. So even with worst case possible...if i had to sell the WRX, I have every single piece needed to put it back to 100% factory like new condition and unload it for KBB value...15,500. Ok, lets do it. I signed on many dotted lines...the RS is back to stock...and now I have a WRX. here's what it came with besides all the problems: Moonroof!!!!!!!!!!!! JDM!!!!!! Heated seats!!!!!!!!!! SUPER JDM!!!! The interior, minus the stained headliner, is in great shape. The body only has a few minor issues...some dents, a few scratches...otherwise its straight and has not been wrecked. Came with F/R whiteline swaybars. Prodrive round tip muffler 3rd cat delete (replacing whole thing with catted Helix DP) STi wing STi hood scoop samco inlet hose (torn up badly tho) ghetto grounding mod OZ-Prodrive P1's in Silver with new tires (For sale! $800) And, its my fav Impreza color...PSM. I will most likely prep it for STX/STU competition...until the engine or trans has to come out for some reason...then it'll most likely be a SM car for the rest of its life. as of right now I have the top of the engine apart to replace the inlet pipe, install up pipe/downpipe and some other stuff. Planned mod list: STi muffler Stromung 2.5" SS center pipe section Helix catted downpipe Up pipe (either OE STi or gutted stock unit) SUBARU STi SS brake lines SUBARU JDM black (faded to light gray now) 4 pots in the front Agency Power 2.5" inlet pipe Perring Afta-MAF tube Megan Racing street coilover with WJM caster mod Whiteline front control arm offset bushings Whiteline steering rack bushings RE070 for the street and STX/STU competition Wheels: Bronze 17x7 ADR, Silver 17x7 ADR, Silver 17x7 Nippon F2, Silver 17x7.5 STi BBS, 1999 Silver 16x7 RS 5 spoke, 2000~2001 Silver 16x7 RS 6 Spoke, Silver 15x7 Kosei K1, Gunmetal 17x8 Rota Tarmac 1 Going back to stock WRX wing/trunk Going back to stock WRX hood scoop Its possible i might do all the rear bushings...later links, trailing arm and in the knuckle.

Scratch all that. I recently traded in my 05 RS for an 04 WRX. WRX will be an STX/STU car...the DD and reliable. That means the RX will stay EA82 since I will not have to rely on it daily. *off to get forged pistons*
-
JWX is getting all the EA82 related items.
-
Thats the other thing...I'm going to do 5% all around on my RX.
-
Oh snap, this just in: Ive got a 3.90 rear R160 diff in t3h garage.
-
I give. I must have been looking at an 06 FSM thinking it was an 02~05 FSM. In that case, I'll just take the 4.11 RP out of that legacy transmission I have, and swap the 4.11 RP out of the RS diff into my RX diff. That way I've got a 4.11 'built' transmission. Or I could find a 3.90 rear.
-
No, its all WRXs are 3.70 in the USA. Thats why I chose it. Its the rear reduction BS that puts the rear ratio at 3.545
-
I've got spare EJ257 shortblocks laying around...so when i do turbo, one of those go in.
-
...I will be swapping out the EA82T and RX transmission for an EJ251 and 2003 WRX transmission. The engine will be modified ofcourse: Delta 'mild' cams (possibly the race ones depending on the specs). EJ257 (STi) oiling system (oil pump/pan/sump/baffle/cooler/waterpump). I might use the EJ205 intake manifold with ported TGV housings (aka TGV deletes) otherwise, I'll port match a stock EJ251 manifold. AEM EMS for 2002~2005 WRX will be used to run the engine. That way I have total control over every aspect of the engine...and *IF* i decide to drop in a turbo engine later, it will be some simple retuning. I'll be using the Borla style header and a high flow cat with a not-too-loud 2.5" catback system. And finally...I will find some way to make the AC work as if stock. As for the transmission: OBX Helical front LSD. 1st and 2nd gear will be upgraded to the USDM Legacy GT 5MT gears. 3rd-4th will be 06 USDM WRX. 5th will remain stock for 2002~2005 USDM WRX. Center diff stays stock. The rear output reduction gears will be changed from the 1.1:1 to 1:1 so I can keep my 3.70 LSD rear diff that is stock for the RX. Why 2.5 N/A thats slightly built? Reliability. I have all the parts (except the cams) and it will be VERY acceptably quick per the cost invested. Did I mention it will be reliable? Reliability is the KEY factor here. Oh, and no turbo lag. This setup *should* put down around 145hp/145tq to the wheels....maybe more. I have a repaired water pipe for the EA82T thats in the RX...I'll finish this engine off after it hopefully makes some power on the dyno...then it'll be swap time.
