Dynomax Turbo Muffler for RX Turbo
WJM replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
anyhow, its not loud with a glasspack. -
Dude, you are right next door to me.
-
I've already got -2.3* of camber in the rear..... ...but ONLY -1.7* in the front. And thats with no mods on the back other than springs.....the thing is toe'd in a freaking mile tho. I guess im just going to slot those three holes and go from there.
-
i took it all apart and there is no adjustment.
-
So...the rear toe on the EA82 stuff....slot the 3 holes in the arm that attaches to the trailing arm?
-
There is no why, only SUBARU.

Techworks Installation Questions and Problems thread
WJM replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i made new lines and routed them differently. but before that, I unbolted them from the 2 locations up front, and pulled the forward and up beside the header...they still lightly touched the header, but I never had any issues. -
it needs a rear sway bar. PS is the only way to go.

for EA81/71...aka the gen 1 and 2 subies, yes, extreme mod for that to fit in there... someone did an XT6 turbo wagon on here...it never ran, but...it was in there and the rad was not too far from stock. 85-90 is not really that fast....lol...but thats pretty much the max speed for the SPFI/carb in stock form...I had my DL SPFI wagon up to 95 tho. the STOCK turbo cars will do about 110~115....on a really really really long stretch. with cams, intake, exhaust and a completey stripped interior on my 89 RX...130 MPH came and gone in no time. stock weight GL-10 wagon, an 86 with RX body kit...stock cams, TWE exh, IC and so on...130 came up fast...as did traffic so I backed off. Due to fuel cut, similar setup on my currect RX...its madness on acell to 5th gear...but since 5th is a constant pull, i get fuel cut...so, never really got to a top speed with it, but under stock boost and levels that dont cause fuel cut, it will get to 125 in a hurry...and where a stock one is giving it EVERYTHING its got to just get ot 110~115...my RX will easily cruise at 115~120 all day long, no even boosting either.

what happens if you tow an AWD improperly?
WJM replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd just drive it. I talked to him...about 3 days after you got it as I was >< this close to buying it for the ER27T project. I know Tim personally. -
I never heard of it....but that doesnt mean it does not exist. Point 1: WRONG! Why: I am putting down 230/292...and its my daily driver...with 170K+ mile shortblock in it (car has 176k on it). Ive had a few turbo subies that were quite fine and reliable with original high mileage engines in them. My RX is definatly faster than Stock and lighty mod'ed WRX's and I've had little issues keeping up with stock STi's on twisties. Point 2: WRONG! Why: They are SLOW in stock form. Point 3: RIGHT/WRONG! Why: An EJ swap IS possible and the EJ22E is near bullet proof. But even with 135~145...it might ONLY be as fast as a stock 2.5 RS...and thats not very fast at all. Point 4: RIGHT/WRONG! Why: ER27's can be turbo'ed...Im going to eventually. However, there is no need for EXTREAME modification to fit it in a Gen3 subie...it slides in nice and tight...although Rad clearance needs to be addressed. Point 5: Mosty right! Why: They do handle GREAT. the 2WD ones are awesome. Very neutral. 4WD ones are way prone to understeer due to the height and the un-nessisary amounts of POSTIVE CAMBER from the front. XT's hanlding is very good as well.
-
BUT...if you actually make the car FAST and put your sponsor's decals on the car...it DOES get you some VERY unwanted attention... Otherwise...a stock appearing EA82 subie will not attract any attention...

Did you buy crazyhorse's XT6? One thing thats interesting is...the center diffs on the FT4WD EA82/ER27's are OPEN. There is no LSD or clutchplates (auto) to screw up. However, there is the severe speed difference from one side of the diff spinning...and one side NOT. So on a regular diff, open....if you sat there in...say a ford mustang, and did a one wheel burnout, would that destroy the open rear diff? -

the only thing i *HATE* is the name. Leone is MUCH better. you've got these rednecks up here and all around that call even an 87 RX...a "looooooyyyy-AAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL"....and i HATE HATE HATE that with a passion.
-
135~145 hp....that still rather slow... :-p My RX is just fine with its 230hp/292tq....i love wrestling with the turbo....I've only been under the hood in the last 5k miles just for an oil change and top off fluids.

I swapped in several distys and rebuilt a few of them...no go.
-
because I had a REALLY hard time tuning the fuel in correctly AND the timing with that system. High boost? ok...tweak timing, adjust the spring tesnsion on AFM....repeat process about 10 times to get it right. Ok, i want to cruse around town on stock boost. Adjsut adjust adjust....and adjust again.....and some more. WAIT! MUST outrun ricer! HIGH BOOST!!! Oh ****, detonation...not enough/too much fuel....oh crap. With 87+....high boost/low boost/med boost....no have to get out and adjust things. Set it and go. Push button for different boost...and just GO GO GO. The pre 87+ does have the merrit of no built in fuel cut tho, I will give it that.
-
A complete swap would be best. However... I did do the 9.5:1 turbo engine. It lasted 24k miles under HARD HARD driving and autocrossing. What broke on it was...NOTHING! I burned a valve due to running lean (that was easily fixed once I found the problem...injector cloged), and the rings gave out. Otherwise the bearings and pistons were in fine shape. I ran my setup with out an intercooler and a catless but otherwise stock exhaust. WIth a proper exh setup, intercooler and the 87+ turbo engine management, it should be rather reliable for 50k miles under 'normal' use and ocasional hard driving. I also experienced a rather large increase in MPGs and a hell-load of low end (1600-2600) power.

Ok guys, lets get some info and pics up on everyone that has taken the plunge to do the TD04 conversion... My plans are to rotate the housing so that the compressor outlet is like stock...vertical, and make a new mount for the wastegate actuator...that will make things less complicated....possiby get a 90 welded onto the compresor housing so taht I have less of a headache getting intake piping done...otherwise...i'll have to make a custom silicone pipe intake.

Summit racing, catco cat i think. THe ones we have in stock are specifically for the TurboXS TBE...that DP is...well, MONSTEROUS...its about a 4~4.5 inch bellmouth that comes down to 3 inches at the cat. If they were not so expensive I'd get one for my TD04 swap. -
205/60/13 BFGoodrich Comp TA HR4 All season high performance. Good in the snow/slush/wet/dry/gravel. Lasts ok if you drive 'normally' but I get about 5k~8K out of a set and I drive like its a WRC rally everywhere I go. Otherwise....its up to you.....but for me, if I actually had to BUY tires...I'd be going with the Khumo 711 or MX or ASX.
