What to do about exhaust?
87.5ea82txt replied to 87.5ea82txt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I see... When I cut the exhaust I noticed that there is what appears to be a 1.75" pipe inside a 2" pipe. Should I look at getting a glass pack with a 1.75" diameter inlet? -
I got a warning last night for my exhaust being too loud. Right now it is missing from the cat on back, and I hollowed the cat out because I was concerned about the possibility of it being clogged. Would a stock wrx exhaust fit if I welded on the flange from the stock turbo? If that isn't feasible, I was considering cutting off the cat and just welding on a cherry bomb in its place since I'll be doing some offroading once I get the bigger tires mounted, and that would be the easiest/cheapest option. I'm just hoping that it will be quiet enough not to rouse suspicion. What do you guys think?

Any plans to lift it? -
The right axle didn't come off as easily as the left. After I disconnected a few things, I had my dad tap on the axle while I pulled from underneath. While tugging on the axle shaft I pulled it right out of the cup! When pulling the innards out, I discovered that the cage the holds the bearings was broke, hence the wheel jerking. I only plan to drive it rwd till I get some new front axles and possibly some new wheel bearings while I'm at it. Thanks for your help, guys.

I got the front axle off the lifted xt pretty easily. Removed the pin and the nut and gave her few light taps with a hammer and 2x4. Easy as pie. Now im looking to eather swap the cups on the shafts to get a little more life out of them, or just reinstalling the outer cup till I get some new axles. I've taken off the inner cups before, but never the outer. How do I get it off without breaking anything? The manual says to tilt it to the side and pop the balls out, then remove the clip behind it. I did a little prying on one of the balls expecting it to pop out, but was only flexing my screwdriver. Any ideas?

Inner Axle Shaft: 1885 GL-10
87.5ea82txt replied to TPain's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I called mwe and they are out of axles for a 87 turbo 4wd xt. They said it would cost $125 to rebuild each axle after I send them mine. I didn't ask, but Im assuming they replace the bearings in them as well? -
Need a quick measurement of a strut.

Sweet! Reason I ask is, I just got some new front kyb xt struts on the wedge, and the larger tires I got won't clear the strut. If I can verify that another model's strut body is long enough, I'll know what to order. -
Ok, I just crawled out from under my xt. Lol I removed the the pins and slid the cup from the stub shafts on the transmission side. Now to remove the axle shaft from the outer end, is there a clip on the inside of the outer cup that needs to be removed to get the shaft and bearings out? im trying to hurry up and get these out so I can take the gf out for her b-day.

How do you install front 2" SJR lift blocks on coil over vehicles?
87.5ea82txt replied to idosubaru's topic in Off Road
Oh, I figured I would mention, I know the xt6 struts are different than the xt, but in my situation of putting blocks on the xt struts, I was not able to make the 28" grabbers fit due to the shorter distance of the strut body and so I am going to have to get longer struts from another model subaru. May not be a problem for you, but I would bust out a tape measure and see how your new struts compare to your old ones to avoid any future headache. -
Thanks. Its a work in progress. I think im going to replace my front axles while ive got things apart. They have been starting to click and my wheel has started jerking to the left as of late.

I was able to get the xt strut with blocks on top onto my xt by disconnecting the sway bars on both ends, sliding the strut into the hub, then useing a jack to raise the hub wnile I guide the block bolts through the strut tower holes. It should be that easy for you as well, unless your overal strut length is longer than mine. Keep me updated, homie. -
Ok, so I'm finaly going to order these struts and get these wheels mounted! So if I'm correct, I'm going to need front struts for a GL or RX? Can someone give me a part number that I should be looking for, or a link to a good place to get a set of kybs in that style? Once I get the struts, im going to drill the hubs to the 6 lug mod. I want to get all new lugs and lugnuts in a size that fit the wheels the best. Does anyone know what year and model vehicle lugs I should be looking for, or a part number for those? Also, what size drill bit should my finished hole be? Im going to do some digging in the mean time and see what I can come up with.

Cool beans! 4wd struts it is.
-
That wheel has a bit of rash on the very outside edge. Maybe even slightly bent. I watched the guy balance them with a computer. He also put a weight on the opposite inner side. I will look for another rim and use it as a full size spare. I will get some 4wd struts for an RX and go back to my 1 1/4" lift blocks.
-
So I should get some front 4wd kyb struts for any other model ea82 other than the XT and the length of the strut from the spring seat to the bottom of the strut will be long enough to clear the tires? An inch longer strut body would be more than plenty.
-
The guy I bought the car from had a '90 2wd parts car that he got the struts from, and I recently put the kyb's on when I installed the lift blocks. The spoiler I had lying around and I stuck it on there for ************s and grins. I get ************ on for it all the time, but its functional and in the near future I plan on pulling a small trailer for my DJ gear. 91loyale, that would be awesome! If you are by chance taking 64 then by all means, stop by. 64 practically runs through my back yard. If you, or anyone else could give me a measurement from the strut seat to the bottom of the strut that would be great. Or if anyone is looking into doing a lowering job and has a set that they would be willing to trade me, these xt kybs have less than 2k miles on them.

So I'm doing some test fitting of a set of 215/75-15" General Grabbers on a set of 15" x 6" wheels with about an inch wider offset than stock. I was told they were from a Mitsubishi truck. The front struts are xt kybs with 2" blocks on top. Do I need front struts from a different model subaru or should I get wheel spacers to make this fit? The rear wheels look like they should fit ok.
