hey, what's with the eye roll??
-
thanks, but i just bought a 99 Legacy GT Limited no offroading in the new one though....trying to keep it "nice"..............cooincidentally though, i bought it a month ago and haven't taken it home yet because it overheated the night i bought it....needs headgaskets! but it's getting fixed for free.

no..wait...she's dead again. and for sale. $1000 bucks, needs headgaskets.

i just called the guy that's in charge of getting the car fixed. he said that they pressure tested the rad cap and it lost about 2 lbs over the span of some time. They got a radiator in today and they're installing it today. If it overheats after that, i said that it might be more fiscally responsible for them to put my warrenty through (they're not starting it until they turn the car over to me) and take it to Bowser Subaru down the street and pay the 100 bucks for them to fix it instead of putting the time and money into it themselves. He said that if it comes to headgaskets, that may be what they'll want to do.

that's what i'm thinking too. if i walk away with a car with 34k miles on it, with new headgaskets, new thermostat, and a new radiator....what the hell i'm just worried that they're going to try to cut their costs on this car wherever they can and throw in a bunch of gasket sealer or conditioner and call it "fixed".

I bought a 99 Legacy GT Limited a few weeks ago to replace my 96 LS. The 99 has only 34k miles on it...and evidently a few problems; well, one actually, but.....you'll see: It overheats. Being that the dealership (Mitsubishi) sold me a "clean" car, they're doing the repairs for free. So far they've replaced the Thermostat..overheated, bled the coolant..overheated, they're going to replace the Radiator, and then (when it overheats after that), ......time for HG's. Is this a fight that worth fighting or should I have given up and cancelled the deal 3 weeks ago the night it started having problems?

to clearify.....again..... You'll have NO arguement from me about the guts of Subarus being quirky. The window rattle, the parking switch, the rough idles, the light tick-tick-tick of a Subaru's engine passing by, are all things that make a subaru quirky to a subaru lover, and (not to sound cheesy about a car) those things are comforting to me...almost "homey" (not like "gangsta" homey - but home homey) The point of my original post was to see Subarus from the eyes of someone on the highway driving a Camry or Explorer. Look, we all know what makes a Subaru interesting and different. However, the average person driving down the road couldn't care less when they see a Legacy or Impreza; and THAT'S my point..........(unless they're looking at an XT(6), Brat, SVX, Baja, Tribeca) If you WANT to get into submodels (IMO): Gen 1 Outback Sport Gen 1 Impreza RS Gen 1 WRX STi And honestly, those three were quirky and cool looking when they came out, but they're so common now that they've lost all quirk.

I'm glad we're on the same page Gary. Now, i'm not saying I don't Love my Legacies. I've had a 96 LS for 5 years and now i just bought a 99 GT Limited. I don't love them for their looks (though i do love how the GT looks) i love them for how they drive, how safe i feel while driving, their reliability, and the fact that it's an underdog brand.

As I said, all of my points (with the exception of the SVX) were based on physical appearance; what the average person sees driving down the highway. If we were talking about machanicals, then every Subaru, no matter what it looks like would be concidered quirky because of the boxer engine. If Subaru made a car that was IDENTICAL to a 2000 Honda Civic, it'd still be quirky because of the internals, which is why I left all of that OUT. Yes, the internals are what we all love. We love the AWD, the Boxer, the Parking light switch, and everything else that "makes a Subaru, a Subaru", but, as I've stated, the average person doesn't see those things on the road.

as i said with the window frames, no one (exageration) who's not a Subaru nut would drive down the highway and make a comment about how "turbo" a gen 1 legacy looks. i'm mostly going on looks here poeple. the only internals i mentioned were on the SVX, and only hard-core subaru people would know that.
