  1. might be going for looks. Most of the stuff is just for fun and i'm not horribly concerned about performance boost. I like the growl of a cold air intake (keep in mind that i'm coming off of a 96 legacy built for offroad with a glass pack muffler...i'm used to hearing the rumble). if i were going for looks i'd stay away from projector headlights. as i said, i'm just coming off of a 96 legacy which had the reflecive lenses instead of the clear lenses, and i'm quite enjoying the look of my new headlights. i was thinking about possibly looking into JDM fogs, however. as far as other looks, i was thinking maybe a 05 steering wheel (if they fit) and carbon fiber (look alike) interior trim pieces (if they exist). possibly a darker window tint. other than that, i'm happy with the hood scoop and gold wheels and emblem.
  2. ok...summer's approaching...and i just rented an apartment with a garage...and i just got a new legacy...i've got the aftermarket itch Car: 1999 Legacy GT Limited 40k Miles (not that it matters, i'm just bragging) Black (which actually looks red in the sun) I have ZERo budget, so this is probably going to be more dreaming than anything, but i'd like to keep it to realistic dreaming (no turbo kits, no 3.3 drops, don't get stupid). What should I think about? Firstly I'd like to get it to breathe right, so (in order) i was thinking, intake, full exhaust, intake manifold. Then handling; sway bars (F&, and struts. So, can someone point in the right direction to where to get such parts for such a vehicle? Also, other ideas are welcome.
  3. if you search around you'll find pleanty of information on this in this forum. it was also talked about in a CarTalk column. basically, the only way you'll get better gas mileage wil the FWD in is if you disconnect all of the rear drivetrain because the car still needs to pull and turn all of the rear drive components. also, you'll go through tires faster too, more than likely.
  4. Any quick/easy ideas on how to drain the water from my foglight? (more evidence that leads me to believe it was a flood car)
  5. Watch this video. it's rediculous. and pay attention to the car they show at the end! (if any modorators feel it necissary to move this to off topic, feel free. if you watch the video you'll see why i put it in New Gen)
  6. those are great guys, thanks a lot. does anyone have any artsy/experimental shots? the website's going to be very cutting edge in styling.
  7. well...since i bought them i haven't driven them on a dry highway. but, they're quiet. i've been very happy.
  8. Hey all, I'm going a website for my Wife's sister's Father-in-law's auto body shop. I'm looking for PROFESSIONAL QUALITY pictures of NICE LOOKING cars (preferably STOCK or TASTEFULL MODDED vehicles). If i chose to use your car on the website (i'm looking for a picture for the HOMEPAGE) i will give you credit in the source code and your car's image will on the first page of the website. the image DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SUBARU, however thats what i'm pushing for. the website is going to be done 100% in Flash and will be a very high-line website when finished. SO, LET'S SEE EM!! also, i will have you "sign" a release stating that you give permission for me to use your photograph.
  9. they can't claim it to be a snow tire because it's preform like a snow tire. it's got a tread rating of like 740 or something rediculous. snow tires aren't even rated. so yes, a dedicated snow tire will preform better, but i tell you, i've had no problems with them driving on completely snow covered roads.
  10. what, so the windows are most likely tempered? which is why they have a greenish hue to them?
  11. 96 Legacy LS 2.2 fried at 130k after an overheat. 99 legacy GT 2.5 replaced at 34.5k due to failure.
  12. i already told you how! there's a ground on the passenger side under the hood connected to the body frame. it's the ground for the ABS (i found that out once by mistake). hook up a switch to it and you're golden.
  13. yeah, with my 96 i was thinking of a way to hoop up a switch to the FWD fuse under the hood that's mounted next to the hand brake that's tripped by a flipper on the ebrake handle.. that's the easiest way i can think of...but i'm no technician or electrician.
  14. as far as i know, the only subaru to disable the dutyc with the ebrake is the STI (rally purposes....you don't want to be ebraking around a hairpin turn and have the clutch pack *************** itself.)
  15. JEEZIE CHRIZEE 16PSI?? am i ignorant, or is the Legacy recomended boost 6psi? i may be ignorant, but 16 sound like a hell-of-a-lot
  16. i have 2 205/75r15 TrailMarks that have about 7/32 on em. FOR SALE! OR FOR FREE!! MY IN LAWS WANT THEM OUT OF THEIR GARAGE!!!
  17. generally, e-brake on an AWD car is a bad idea, unless the handbrake is set to disable the center-differential like on the STI's. I would only do that in a situation where it's absolutely necissary in an emergency situation.
  18. I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of these tires, but don't knock em till you try em. i just got a set of Goodyear Triple Treads on the 99leg GT. So far, they're amazing. quiet grip like mad total control cool looking we just got a butt-load of snow here in columbus and i TRIED to have some fun with my car in a parking lot and i couldn't. Everytime i got the car to slide it hooked right back up. i really think that the AWD of the Subaru and the grip of the Triple Treads is a huge win.
  19. that depends car-to-car. my 96 LS (2.2 134k miles) was running fine until i neglected to fix the water pump after i knew that it needed it. long story short, the water pump went, car overheated, fried the headgaskets, engine = toast, sold the car for $400.
  20. I'm not going to read through 5 pages of this, but there's a ground on the passenger side of the engine. if you disconnect it, the ABS shuts off. you could hook up a switch to that if you want, i suppose.
  21. Ok, so I finally got my new car and got everything fixed that the dealership tried to scheister me with. Now, i have a couple of questions with what I bought: 99 Legacy GT Limited | Sedan | Auto | 35k miles The light on the station number buttons (4, 5, & 6) are out on the stereo (stock stereo). is there a way to fix this like the climate control lights? On the stereo there's Track Forward and Track Back buttons for the CD portion of the stereo. There's also Disc Up and Disc Down buttons. I know that it was an option to have a cd-changer, but the stereo doesn't seem to take more than one disc and those buttons don't appear to do anything. are they just "in-case" buttons for if the cd-changer option is installed? It has tinted "safety glass". Does "safety glass" mean that all the windows are shatter-resistant like the windshield? ..i think that's all my questions....otherwise i'm pretty knowledgable about this car having owned a 96 LS for 6 years. -thanks guys
  22. would it be possible that parking it on a grade for a period of time + possible low fluids might cause a dry spot in the engine or tranny? i dunno, just throwing something out there.
  23. um...i don't think so. this thing is MINT (save for the headgaskets). It only has 34k miles on it and the body and paint are showroom quality. this thing was too great of a find to offroad. don't worry, once i start making money and buy a house with in-ground lifts in the garage, i'll fashion myself up some 8" lift blocks and stuff a new tribeca engine into an sxv. my Subaru offroading days aren't over, they're just on hold.
