  1. Yeah we did compress it with a vise slow like and put a small drill bit in it to hold it. Then we got everything put back together new coolant all that jazz and its just not starting is turning over over but not starting.... any ideas?
  2. yeah we ended us doing the top right idler but we had to sort of plan it out cause once the tension went on either the right camshaft pulley or the Crankshaft sprocket would move but after 4 trial and error runs its on!!! now time to put all the rest of the crap back on lol. I need the car tomorrow so it may be a long night (an hour or so longer ) and thanks Olnick and others for your pointers they really aided this process.
  3. So having trouble getting the belt on tried using the hand of a hammer and just pushing/pulling it on, the Haynes manual implies that one of the idler pulleys is off when putting it back on but that just seems like it'd be a PITA to get back on under that much tension, so any tricks on getting the belt on? did a search and came back with info on replacing the belts but the step of getting the belt back on is just assumed so sorry if this info is somewhere else.
  4. So anyone find out the torque specs for this? I just don't trust the Haynes' manual anymore so many snapped bolts.
  5. Carquest was where I went with the ea82 flywheel for $43 I dont think the EJ22 flywheel will be too much more.
  6. Another reason why the front fenders tend to rust away behind the wheel and in front of the front door is the filter/grate thing isn't quite fine enough. So small leaves like from a Russian olive tree will fall through it and clog up the drain holes so water tends to sit there and eventually that part of the fend will rust out.
  7. its really up to you though for what you pay for it to be machined (here its at least 40) you can spend another $10 or so more and get a new one, the only thing is they usually don't have them in stock (at least here) so you'll have to wait for it to come in.
  8. Yeah thing is time is of the essence here (as its my only car atm) also I already have a belt and a water pump so I just need the pulleys/sprockets and from what I understand from other posts is that ShawnW sells timing kits like those and since hes about 12 miles from me I don't need to wait on shipping though, I'm waiting for a reply from him or I may have to pull them off a legacy at the pull and pay.
  9. you like heat and humidity? and hate the snow? or is it that you like fords?
  10. yeah it was the sprocket not the smooth ones and yeah did get it off though took alot of elbow grease haha
  11. well quick update for those that care the problem has been found opened up the cover and found a crap load of ball bearings... the idler pulley exploded. so gotta get a new one of those. So ShawnW I know you advertise having parts and such..... Think you have an idler pulley and a crankshaft pulley available?
  12. yeah thanks for the 5th gear method worked great and yeah damage done to the crankshaft pulley have to get a new one. wish these manuals would give better instructions. and the manual says once the bolt is gone it can be hand pulled off... yeah that's not working lol... so gotta go rent a puller from autozone. and unfortunately it looks like maybe a tensioner went bad as the belt is loose but will know more once we get that cover off.
  13. So me and my brother are trying to get the cover off of the timing belt and hitting some issues one the pulley is turning while we are trying to remove it the haynes manual said to use a chain wrench which didn't hold it and actually damaged it so now i have to replace that and also the little screws that in the plastic simply don't want to come out its almost like they are stripped, any suggestions on how to stop the pulley from spinning?
  14. wow really I though all outbacks had the 2.5 Damn should've jumped on a '96 OBW for $2000... though it did have 215k seemed a bit over priced.
  15. Yeah thats what I'm thinking/hoping for, I already got a new belt and all that jazz (as I was planning on replacing it anyway since I was doing the Water pump) but a quick question, since its a dual cam does it have two timing belts?
  16. Ya know Colorado boasts most of that as well just not in Denver but don't fret about city woes, live in Weld County which is maybe 25-40 min from Denver and the sales tax there is only the state tax ( 2.9%. ) though there's only about 4 cops from the sheriff's dept on duty at any given time lol. and there's real mountains though the summers and winters are more extreme than the coast. average is around 90 (highest around 105 for the summer and 50 (lowest I've seen was -20) in the winter with precipitation about 19 inches or so (though it usually melts away the next day so no dirty snow) though they do use salt on the roads so rust tends to happen. Plus unlike the northwest loads of sunny days here. Just my two cents.
  17. So my legacy not even an hour after selling my ea82 wagon "backup" car decided to break down i'm pretty sure/hoping its the water pump that I was going to replace tomorrow (was making a rattle noise when I first bought it (see thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=115359) but I'll describe what happened anyway, I was coming to a stop at the intersection in neutral and the engine sorta acted like it was in too high of gear/out of gas and sputtered out and would not start after that. any ideas?
  18. forgot another detail which is the most important... the engine the Legacies came with the ej22 whereas the outbacks have ej25s.
  19. yeah a guy in Lakewood here is parting two outbacks out so I'm going to give him a call tomorrow to see if he still has struts springs avail and he says he has alloys but I'm hoping he has steelies as well if not the search will continue (possibly forever )
  20. Also (on top of doing a tune up) trying using "premium" fuel and buy a bottle of octane (about $8) and that will help out on emissions. though you said its the wrong o2 sensor on that.... that will need to be replaced and that should work out... I know a shop told me i needed to replace a cat on my old toyota so i did and it only lowered the emissions by 2 "points" and it was 8 over the limit. did the premium and added octane passed with flying colors.
  21. yeah at the u pull and pay rims are just thrown everywhere so theres probably some nice outback rims.... but it could be next to a ford or under a saturn etc. so sad.
  22. btw have you seen the BRAT that DesertBrat is selling... looks pretty nice http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=115284&page=2 is his sell thread
