OK, I replaced my Drivers side wheel bearings today had already replaced the passenger side) and the noise is GONE! WOOHOO! Now I can hear myself think. That's what it was for me. Hopefully yours is as simple or even easier. Good Luck!

I've got the same problem on my 92 Loyale. Driving straight or turning left it drones and causes a slight vibration that can be felt in both the steering wheel and the pedals. Turning right it's silent. I've narrowed it down to Axle or Wheel Bearing. Since mine's got 163K on it, I'm replacing them both. There is a great thread in the USRM section of the board on front wheel bearings and another on how to "rebuild" axles. I'd say to replace on or the other, but since you'll be halfway to one job, when you're doing the other, might as well just do them both.

Sorry to hear about your accident. But, like others have said, at least everyone walked away. And there are replacement parts available. I know where at least 2 XT6s are here in Indiana if you can't find anything locally. Good Luck!

tail light gaskets on BRAT
2manetoys replied to 2manetoys's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll gladly buy a new gasket if I can find one since I'm restoring (kind of) and not wheeling the Brat, but being a relative rookie here I've got 3 questions: Who is Jason (I assume he has a username on here)? What is our best parts source? A website or dealership? Do you have the # or know where I can find it? -
What is the best replacement for the gaskets on the tail lights of my 85 Brat? The old one is dry rotted of course. Is there a place that I can get a new gasket? I bought the only tail lights on the only Gen 2 BRATs that I've found.

Nice Wagon! And from the Rust Belt no less! Here's the info that you are looking for on the Weber swap. It's in the Old USRM. Weber Swap with Pics

A couple of options usually. Maybe power windows, or a slightly better trim on the outside. Things like that. Doesn't effect Horsepower. LOL

While you're looking for the 5 Spd D/R, you might keep your eyes open for the rear disks off of a Turbo 4WD Loyale Wagon. Get the rotor, caliper, Backing plate and Proportioning valves off the Turbo 4wd Loyale and they will pretty mcuh bolt up to the Brat you've got. I've had mine for 6 and it still doesn't look that good. SO where are are you at geographically?

Do your full tune up including timing belts, tensioner, plugs, wires, fuel filters, and it should get about 28 if it's front wheel drive.

SWEET! Thanks for the re-motivation to get mine back up and road worthy. It will be a While before mine looks as Sharp as that! Well Done!

Hello, from me and my Brat!
2manetoys replied to thearose's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Nice BRAT and Welcome to USMB! My best advice is to buy a Factory Service Manual off ebay. You'll want on that cover the 1600 from '79 or '80. THey can be had for about $50 or less. it will be HUGE and have some Great exploded diagrams of Everything on your car and will include wiring diagrams as well. Like this one: 1980 Factory Service manual -
If I lived closer I'd take you up on that offer in a SECOND. And Storage reorganization is my Specialty. I just saved my wife's boss almost $1800/ year by combining her 2 storage units into one, and actually using the space in the one to it's Fullest (pun intended).

82 Brat auto windows wiring help
2manetoys replied to stephen115's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here's a link to an 83 FSM on ebay: 1983 Subaru 1600 1800 DL GL BRAT 2WD 4WD FSM Of course this will only help you as long as it stays factory or you are working on the parts that are Factory. If you EJ Swap it, you'll need to master the search engine here on USMB. -
Here's a link with Pics from the old USRM. INVALUABLE as the one in the new USRM only has broken image links (at least for me using Chrome as my Browser). Great write up! Weber Carb installation old USRM Good Luck!

82 Brat auto windows wiring help
2manetoys replied to stephen115's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are they the Factory Service Manuals? Or just a Chiltons' / Haynes? A Factory Service Manual shows you every little nut, bolt & washer and has EXCELLENT exploded diagrams for everything on your car. They can be had on eBay for about $45-50 shipped and are WELL worth it. -
Would that info be in the Factory Service Manual?
-
They are replaceable., but you might have to cut one from a vehicle with a good support and have the fabricator weld it in place of the rotted one. I might wind up doing the same on a "spare" vehicle I"ve got. Haven't decied if it's going to be worth it or not yet.

My dash 85 brat looks like the grand canyon
2manetoys replied to Bolinkxr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the same problem in my 85 BRAT. I was fortunate enough to find a very good replacement in a JY and I pulled it. I have heard from a few people who have done it before that the "new" dash will eventually crack as well from different stresses than it had on it in the previous vehicle and that it is better to have the one you have Reupholstered if you can do it reasonably cheap. For point of reference, my JY Dash cost me about $90 and 1.5 hours to pull. In hindsight when I removed the dash from my Brat, I should have labeled the electrical connections so that I knew what everything would connect to. It is MUCH easier if you can remove the windshield, BUT it is not impossible to do it without it just more difficult. -
Now that you have 10 posts, you should be able to turn on your PMs (aka Private messages) in your User CP. You'll probably want that some time soon.

She's Sharp! Congrats on the nice score. If you need any replacement parts LMK as I know where a good salvage yard is for EA81s (the name of the motor in the body style of car that you have) and I'm only 1.5 hours away.

Bringing home a new one...
2manetoys replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice looking Sedan! Congrats! One tasteful Mod that you might consider after you've done some research is the third eye which is another headlight that sits in the center of the grill behind the Subaru logo. Not a huge change and not terribly difficult to do except the wiring. -
Q's about 12 spoke alloys 4 hole 13"
2manetoys replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My question is, What did you score them off of? or are these aftermarket wheels?
