  1. Great, thanks for the help! I wanted to try working on it today with the help of my father in law to crank it...but my wife gave me those, "it's thanksgiving and YOU'RE watching the kids while me and my mom cook" eyes haha maybe fri or sat.
  2. Hey guys! Well i am finally getting around to working on the 1980 Brat i rescued awhile back. So far i have drained the gas tank and added new gas, the old gas wasn't bad really just yellow in color. Did a new fuel filter, added a working fuel pump off of the donor, put in a battery and connected the terminals. First sound was a buzzer like when you first put the key in the ignition, then all the lights on the dash came on, i heard the fuel pump kick on to feed the carb and the fuel filter is full of has, upon cranking it just cranks, fuel goes into the carb but there is no spark at all. I replaced the coil from the donor car, didn't fix nothing. I replaced the voltage regulator from donor, no change. There are two wires coming off of the distributor a black and a white/black if i remember right, the white/black has 12vdc. They both go to the coil, one to pos + and one to - Neg. I ordered a new voltage regulator just so i know it's new but my question to you all is... Where does the spark originate? Inside of the distributor? Should there be a pulse? I am going to keep at it but maybe one of you seasoned guys can chime in? By the way its the starter on top 1.6 liter. THANKS A MILLION!
  3. There is a wagon that runs around Cheyenne, WY here that has those exact adapters, however she has no idea where the PO got them. I want a pair! Does this car look familiar to anyone?
  4. I was watching Alaska, the last frontier last night and around the guy Ottos house you can see an old GL or Loyale. They even had a helicopter shot of the property and i swear i could see a brat? Who knows.
  5. Haha the people asking if you'd sell it were probably some people from here, real nice wagon...you ever thought about selling it? Just kiddding.
  6. I don't think i've ever seen someone cut wheel centers out and weld them into another wheel before, holy crap. I love the pics of the kids with the car stuff, reminds me of my 3 year old Gage he wants to help with everything which is good...and bad haha. Great looking BRAT and Baja by the way!
  7. Hey, that seal is guaranteed to not let any water or foreign contaminants in...just leave the car in the garage and don't drive it and you won't have a problem.
  8. That's good to know lucky, it surprises me that they would allow you to have that kind of coverage on an older car especially a BRAT. But thanks, definitely something to consider!
  9. Did you google this question at all? It has been covered and beaten with a stick to death. Literally to death. Back to the search bar for you!
  10. Oh actually i have a windshield in both BRATS but they have cracks. I am pretty surprised at the amount of BRATS i've found around here in SE wyoming. The lady who i bought these two cars has two more and a boat load of parts but i am all tapped out cash wise. I'm hoping she craigslists the stuff but she probably won't out of laziness.
  11. It kind of begs the question, how the hell did it get to you on the east coast in that driving condition?
  12. Thats a good question, but thinking back i don't think my 85' had the fuel filter loyales have in the engine bay or i guess not so much loyales but fuel injected EAs, i am actually quite positive i added an in line fuel filter to my 85'. That engine ran sweet...until one of the timing belts broke haha. I didn't even fix it, i EJ'd it!
  13. This thing seriously must have 36 lbs of bondo under this silver paint haha, i gave it a couple of good kicks and it started raining rust and bondo haha
  14. Good to know, all of them fellas are regulars here and are pretty helpful. I'm thinking of doing a 4" lift and same wheels and tires that are on my lifted loyale. 27x8.50R14s
  15. Well aside from the filter maybe do the other things first before diving into a carb rebuild, especially an hitachi, i think they are a bear if i remember right. You take the timing gun hook it up to your battery red to pos black to neg and use the leg clamp to go around the plug wire of the #1 cylinder spark plug and then shine the light that is flashing through the site hole near the rear of the motor, there shoule be a hard plastic rubber piece to remove to see the marks on the flywheel. This is probably over your head maybe? Haha if so it is time for lots of reading on your behalf. I'm just saying before you dive into a carb rebuild i'd do the basic tune up first. Maybe even have a shop do a timing check? Where do you live? Maybe a forum member could help?
  16. Hmm that is weird, EA82s are non interference. The timing is probably off because someone went twisting the distributor trying to get it to idle right, seriously do yourself a favor and buy a timing light or borrow one and see where its running bro.
  17. Damn $77! Before spending that kind of dough buy a good timing light, change fuel filter (just behind/next to drivers side strut tower) and do a basic tune up, ie spark plugs, cap, rotor, NGK Plug wires, i'd be willing to bet money the timing is off.
  18. Wow, an 85' with such a nice body that's awesome. I too am 33 years of age and will inform you that your engine does indeed have a timing belt and you should be taking the covers off as soon as you can to inspect the timing belt. Unless the PO changed it. This could also be your problem as the timing might be off. I had an 85' Wagon a couple years ago and put an EJ22 in it and it was a blast because it was such a frankensteined rusty POS that it was basically a sleeper. Great car man and i love that color.
  19. Mine are too buddy, i also hear it is hard to find windshields. But i have just begun on my first gen brat journey ha
  20. Haha it sure does! These seats are almost perfect, and the shell is in great shape. Already took off all the lights including the headlight assemblies. Too bad i'm getting starting at the beginning of winter. Although in the game of car building i've found (with small kids) that it is a marathon not a sprint. I also ended up with 2 more good 13" jackman wheels and 4 nice standard brat spoke wheels.
  21. There are some really good parts on this one!
  22. I've got the same outback only black, it's my wife and kids ride though which is fine by me as my EJ'd loyale is more fun.
