Transmission Predicament 1980 BRAT
So I took my 4 speed single range out of my BRAT along with my motor to have it supposedly bench tested at the local Aamco shop. Well they were waiting to see if they could get all of the seals to put it all together again, which they can. The problem is they have the entire thing torn apart so they could inspect all the internals. He tells me they can reassemble it with full brand new seals and the total out the door price with also resurfacing my flywheel is $1150. Which doesn't sound too terribly bad to me but I didn't want to spend that much, I wanted them to bench test it and see if it was in working condition. But lo and behold some miscommunication and they have it fully torn down now. My question is there anyway I can just go puck up all of my parts and put it back together myself? Have any of you torn one down and put it back together? Even better does anyone have an exploded diagram showing everything? Thanks everyone or anyone!

Road Trip Prep
I don't leave the house without my AAA card haha, $150 a year is worth it to me, mostly because of the free tow and my wife has the added security too!

hunting down an electrical glitch
I think I can help with this, I have a 92' Loyale that used to do the same exact thing. I used a lighted voltage tester and hooked it to my battery and started pulling fuses till the drain went away. Let me guess your loyale has those awful automatic seat belts? If so then that's exactly what you are hearing is the relays clicking when you close the door or turn off your car. A relay is probably getting stuck closed or open or it thinks a seat belt hasn't retracted fully? I would suggest you narrow your search to the seat belt electronics. I hate the automatic crap, I plan on converting to all manual soon. Good luck, let us know what you find!

5 speed single range transmission for Brat?
Hey mellowalmond I took my motor and single range out of my brat this last weekend and was going to refurbish both and reinstall.... Then I thought, why would I put this puny motor and transmission back in just to drive with 60hp? Heck with all that...i'm putting an EJ22 and dual range 5 speed in mine and making it a blast to drive!

!RESCUED! 1980 Subaru Brat
Yo man, I do not need a 4 speed actually. I might have this one gone over by a tranny shop first and if they say it's bad I will remove the one out of the Grey brat. Then again I've got this wild itch to put an EJ22 in it with my other 5 speed D/R. I did some crude measuring in between the frame rails and it looks like a phase one EJ22 will fit right between them without modifying them? I thought I remember someone saying they notched the rails and boxed them out so valve cover gaskets could be done with the motor in the car? That doesn't really bother me all that much. How much fun would it be to have an EJ motor in a first gen?

Nick's 94 Loyale build
Nick, my loyale has done that since I bought it and I always tell myself that I'm going to look up the fix or look into and I never do. I guess it's a common problem though, so I can't wait to see what you find haha.

!RESCUED! 1980 Subaru Brat
Couldn't find my punch for axle pins so I used what I could...a 7/32nd drill bit using the blunt end to push the pin out and hitting the sharp end with a hammer. Worked like a charm!

!RESCUED! 1980 Subaru Brat
Starting to clean it up a bit, don't know if I should bring this tranny to a tranny shop and have them go through it and see if it's repairable or if it is badly damaged or just take the parts Brat tranny out and put it in?

No doubt.

13" Rims and tires?
And then fully painted and installed on my Brat.

13" Rims and tires?
These are 13" Jackmans, sandblasted in this pic of course!
-
13" Rims and tires?
No, those aren't Jackmans unfortunately. To me they look like the GL/Loyale spoke wheels. If they're in good shape though might be worth $50 to someone?

Had to attend a funeral today in Divide, CO so I took the back way, which included one of my favorite roads, Elk Creek Rd by Conifer. 7.5 hrs of driving today!

Haha confusion is a perfect way of saying that! Around here in cowboy country the diesel douches have to be the worst with their mega lifted cummins, duramaxes, and powerstrokes and since there are no emissions requirements here they barely have mufflers...and then you see the hideous abomination of 10" wide stacks rising from their pickup beds like buckets stacked on top of each other. ROLLING COAL. What clones they are. I love this car and will most likely end up selling my brat just to finance more stuff for this haha

Why thank you! I like to think we all pride ourselves on our ability to create what we want and try something new. I had a friend ask me once, "why not just get a jeep or bronco?" Because ANYONE can go out and buy/drive one of those and blend into the crowd, but a lifted subie? Now that's just cool.
