My '94 Loyale: Subaru Utility Wagon
Yes, while it's out throw it away and put an EJ in its spot, voila, more hp! Just kidding, but changing to an XT6 clutch won't make a difference without the XT6 flywheel, because the flywheel is where you are going to get better throttle response as it is lighter. Obviously change any leaking gasket or seal while you've got the engine out, you already knew that though I'm sure!

Came home from work and removed the 5 speed dual range from the 88 parts gl wagon, the only reason I bought the car was to have this tranny as a back up so into the shed it goes and the car goes to the junker. Really glad I got that done!

The reason for my "alias" scooner.
Decided to paint my car today, my wife said I should go with an earth tone... So I did. It's a little chunky in spots, but I think it turned out pretty good!

My first EJ swapped car, the 85' GL, I traded a guy a gun for it, drove it like crazy till I snapped a timing belt and then swapped in an EJ22 from a legacy that was given to me. This car was alot of fun! This pic is from the current owner who flipped the wheels around for fun.

!RESCUED! 1980 Subaru Brat
Just picked this back up, Napa resurfaced it for $23.75. Makes me realize how incredibly ridiculous this Aamco is for not even moving on their price if $75 to do it. You can probably tell I'm not going to EJ this BRAT right now, instead of spending the summer in the garage modifying I want to put it all together and enjoy it for what it is. So what if it has 63 hp? I'm thinking that might add to the coolness of it! Can't wait to cruise this thing around town this summer and possibly even drive it to the car show/cruise in Golden, CO?

Transmission Predicament 1980 BRAT
Yeah, it's not big deal really. Like i said my brother ran one in west Denver for a long time and he was let go because he was "too honest"and for some reason he couldn't justify selling stuff to people that they didn't need. Him and I must've used the lifts in there at least a half dozen times on various different projects. I think tomorrow I am just going to "pop" in unannounced and pick up my box of tranny parts, by the way is $75 too much to turn a flywheel?

Transmission Predicament 1980 BRAT
Yeah, the more I think about it the more I realize there is not a good way to bench test a transmission, short of spinning the shaft in each gear maybe? Still that doesn't seem possible to do. I must've misunderstood him, this shop however actually said they could bench test it I do remember that haha. I guess bench testing means tearing it all apart and checking everything inside? What a rookie mistake on my behalf. I decided I am going to stick with all original and keep the EA71 with top starter mount tranny. Also, if thus tranny cannot be put back together I have a complete known good one in my parts Brat I will just use, so not all is lost!

"Gina the purple wagon"
I truly enjoyed reading through this haha, I love the way we all McGuyver and it's not a big deal at all. Love these wagons, I may or may not be getting one soon. Funny you mentioned the sign thing, I have a huge sign in my garage that I've had forever and never thought of using it for a skid plate, so thanks!

29 Years as a Tech in the same location 10-20-1986 - 04-07-2015
Wow, 29 years, that is impressive and most of my age haha (33 years.) I hope you find what you need and want. I think we all deserve that, never know, sometimes things happen that seem like they might be bad but in the end was for the best. Wishing you good luck! Levi

Transmission Predicament 1980 BRAT
My brother was a manager of one for a long time and he told me he used to bench test and give a good diagnosis, of course it was at one in Denver. Guess i'll be paying them their $150 diagnosis fee and taking home a box of puzzle pieces haha. Oh well lesson learned... You guys rock!
