The accord springs are a couple inches taller and somewhat stiffer as well. Probably not the best thing for high speed stability, which is what you want for a rally car. For an RX, I would just get some good tires and maybe pump up the engine a bit with an intercooler, increased boost, and freer flowing intake and exhaust. Oh, and lots of stickers;) .

Cam cover is connected to the???(cambox?)
I've never heard of a gasket for this surface. ThreeBond 1215 is the recommended sealant for this, but that's almost impossible to find. I've been told by a bunch of mechanics to use Permatex anaerobic sealant, either the red kind or the grey kind. I used the red kind and it's worked great so far.

Hmmm.... Honda springs in a soob. Is that the same sort of blasphemy as putting a chevy engine in a ford? That sounds like the way to go.

I saw the post about soob springs, and according to that chart the stiffest ones are in the wagons already, unless I missed something. Somebody mentioned something a while back about using the front springs from an older honda in place of our rear springs. Anybody know anything about this?

The ea82s only had adjustable preload for a couple years very early on. I can't remember if it was 85-86 or 86-87. On these, the bottom of the spring rests on a collar that can rotate. As it rotates, it switches between three ramped settings, each one altering the ride height by about an inch and a half.

stiffer rear springs?
Does anybody know where I might be able to find some rear springs for roxanne (ea82 4x4 wagon) that are stiffer and/or taller than stock? Either from other soobs, other makes that are common in junkyards, or even companies that sell new custom springs? I am tired of the rear end sagging with any sort of load in the back. I've already cranked up the preload to the second setting, which is an improvement. However, I think even with increasing the preload all the way, the stock springs are just inadequate for my purposes. I would like to keep the stock front-to-rear angle relatively intact, so springs that are just taller aren't really what I'm looking for. I'm more looking for springs of close to the same height that are substantially stiffer. Any ideas?

They are absolutely awesome, but unless I could actually get in some rallies with it, I would never be able to take it to its full potential with any amount of safety or without getting my license revoked. And then there's the fact that AK is just hard on cars and I'd rather have a bunch of old soobs than one of those up here.

NAC sounds like the best bet if they'll do it reasonably cheaply. If that doesn't work though, I'd be fine paying for fedex or UPS at those prices if that's the only way to go. I'm still up for it if you guys are.

Another thing to consider when resealing your oil pump: Over time, the oil pump shaft seal wears a groove in the shaft, making sealing difficult if not impossible. The fix for this is to get a seal that is shallower or deeper, effectively moving the sealing point to a new, unworn location. I don't know if the shaft size is the same on your car as on my EA82-series, so this part may not interchange, however it may be worth looking for. Check and see if they list the same seal for the EA71 as for the early EA82 (1985- late eighties), and if they do, you can just order the extended seal, which they should be able to cross reference from NAPA part number 7012. If the seals are different, a good parts guy should be able to find a deeper one to fit your application.

Mine is an n/a car, so it may be different, but it seems to want substantially more advance with the Delta cams.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what the deal is, but I've been getting parts off of a 78 DL with four headlights. I've never seen an ea71 gl in person, so I don't know what they've got. Oh yeah, welcome to the board! A friend of mine used to have a 79, and he could never kill that thing. We often drove around with flashlights taped to the hood for lack of working headlights, but it always ran.

So, does anybody know what that little T-like fitting on the drivers side does? In the stock setup, it's got a smaller diameter line going into the air filter housing somewhere. I can only assume that it allows filtered air in under certain conditions or something like that.

Contemplating new summer project
Snowman replied to suba's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI posted the same basic query a few days ago. Apparently there is an article in Sport Compact magazine that covers installation of the EJ20T in any Impreza, which would basically be the same as putting in the EJ22T. As far as I know, everything will bolt up. I am planning on getting a wrecked legacy turbo car to grab everything off of when I get around to doing this, since I'm sure there are a bunch of little things that need to be swapped. The wiring harness is probably a bit different but may be the same, the exhaust might take some work to fit like on the EA-series turbo vs. non-turbo cars, and the clutch might be beefier. I'm just guessing on all of those though, and if anybody could clear that up, it would be great. I think that would be an awesome car if everything was set up right. The impreza is no slowpoke with the n/a 2.2. I can't imagine what it would do with a tweaked out turbo 2.2 putting down 250-300 horsepower, but I know it would be fun:D .

ha ha, we must look like a bunch of first-graders! That's basically the same thing. The only thing I'm not sure about is exactly what that little fitting is that the drivers side line goes to in the stock setup. I would guess some sort of regulator that lets filtered air in under certain conditions but not others. I'll try to look at mine tomorrow and see what it does.
