  1. I think I have bigger problems. I replaced the oil and filter...when I drained the oil, it looked like a little bit of water came out first...popped HG or crack somewhere. Damn it. The tick went away for a while, but came back, I'm tempted to drain the oil again, in a clear container and see if water seperates in it.
  2. By the looks of it, I think they spin around through time. Let me know if your ticks goes away. And how much for your rebuilt lifters?
  3. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64613 GM alternator upgrade. Pretty easy compared to the improvement.
  4. I pre-lubed them before I put them back together and pumped them up while in oil...weird thing is, they still had full movement. But they work in the car, I'm assuming the intermittent tick is from the Fram filter I put on there to run some cheap oil to, hopefully, clean the system.
  5. Just bent them in a little and forced it back over the ridge. They're nice in tight.
  6. OK, an update. I took eight of them apart, cleaned them, put them back together and just put them in my car. The tick is pretty much gone. Comes around when it's cold, but not even close to how bad it used to be. So, I found that they get stuck due to build up of gunk on the walls of the main body, the ridge of gunk slowly moves down and the "seizes" the spring retainer cup. Anyone can take these things apart but if you want, shoot me a PM, I can do it for ya.
  7. I think it's badass that the Baja is under Brat too. That's a cool find
  8. Front U Joints on the driveshaft?
  9. Agreed. It isn't the best thing to do. 4wd should only be used in situations where tire slippage is expected. Eg: Ice, snow, sand, mud, maybe loose gravel.
  10. So I started to take more apart, I found out that I have two different types of lifters... Then I took apart the "weird" one on the left...looks like this... If you look at the first pic in the first post, you'll see the difference. Here's how the lifter goes together. As I was taking it apart, the small part next to the spring would be stuck, compressed, at the bottom of the casing, it took some repetitive compressing to get it to come back up. Could this be the problem? I was thinking of finding new springs for them, but I have no clue on how to go about this.
  11. So, I took one apart, to see what exactly it is they rebuild. I couldn't figure it out. Here's what they look like completely dismantled, minus the second thing from the left, it has a little ball and a spring in it. So, I'm going to do this to eight of them, clean them out and put them in my RX that is clackin' like none other (new oil pump, wix filter, and good pressure on an aftermarket gauge). Then I'm going to take the noisy ones apart and see if there is something noticeably wrong with them. I'm surprised that's all they are. What do they rebuild on these?
  12. As for the steering. What kind of fluid did you use...or the prior owner use? It uses ATF. Some people use powersteering fluid, that doesn't work well.
  13. Clutch cables and throttle cables like to become a source of a ground. I recommend running extra grounds from the engine to the firewall (Close to the cable holes) check the engine to battery ground.
  14. Is there any way to get a nut behind the metal? Could you tack weld a nut to a stiff piece of wire and thread it back there?
  15. I'm going to say: Change the fuel filters. There are two. One in engine bay, one right next to pump. You'd be surprised. Should have changed those first. EDIT: I Reread your post. Did you change both fuel filters?
  16. Awesome. I'd say it's kind of a rib rubbing/ respect to Subaru. Those japanese car companies actually help each other out more than hurt. It's kind of a national pride thing.
  17. That's good to know, I've only done EA82s. On a side note, can the pans swap out? If not, is there a benefit to adding baffles for high angle applications?
  18. I've searched, but all the links I found were broken. Can someone send me a picture of the socket or a socket you made, for the re torquing of the head bolts on the ea82s? Thanks much, Justin.
  19. Really easy. Oil pan on the other hand...I'd imagine you'd have to jack the engine up a little, with the mounts unbolted.
  20. TIMING BELT PROCEDURE. Thanks to MilesFox, located in the Engine Section of the USRM. (Link on the top right of any page)
  21. PermaTorq headgaskets. You don't have those on there.
  22. Maybe stick the ballasts behind the fender? Between the outter and inner fender. And, if you do this, do a write up, I've been thinking about doing it, but have no time right now.
  23. Check this out, it might prolong the life. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50430 It's a how to repack your timing pulley bearings. You could probably get away with doing it with the pulleys still on the engine with the belts in place, just try not to get the grease on the belts. Thanks to subeman90 for the write up.
