  1. here's what he said. all I asked is what he physically noticed and asked in the trans temp light was on. Not that I noticed. I was driving home and it sounded like gears weren't being engaged when it was supposed to shift but once I got going it wasn't bad mostly first taking off. I did a diagnostic and code p0740 came up and that is torque clutch malfunction. and thanks for the links.
  2. my search function isn't working and there is a 1996 legacy I'm looking at with trans problems. he had AutoZone scan it and got that code. explains something about the torque converter
  3. Yes we did. Ugh. And the pics I used to make sure I got all the bolts came from this forum. Got it
  4. The block won't split for me I found pics and I have gotten all of the block halve bolts, and I have removed the pistons. What's going on??? Just a stubborn block???
  5. I already nabbed it. It was free. I might just tear it apart to learn about it now.
  6. Quite possibley. But he shut it down right when the noise started and had it towed. Oh well. I'll just frienkenmotor it. The block is perfect.
  7. Ok, the REAL problem is he threw a rod bearing. it was pretty evident when i went out and turned the crank back and forth and you can feel and hear a clunking from within. Now i know you guys will say everything against it, but for some reason i wouldnt mind just putting this whole engine in my car. It came out of a 1996 Legacy GT. What the guy was doing was spinning donuts in the snow doing 6k for 5 minutes straight and heard clunk, then the non stop knocking, and thought he bent a rod. So, what i want to get at is this: all i ever hear bad about this engine is its tendancy to blow head gaskets (and throw the rod bearing xD). You guys told me about all the problems with the EA82 Turbo and addressed them to make it reliable. I'm pretty sure one of you guys nows a fix to solve the HG problem with the EJ25D. Links to a post or an answer is always much appreciated.
  8. i shall scout it out for you sir :Salute: but i believe it has both. But just remember; if you give up, i'm here for her. Also, the one at the junk yard was actually an XT6, so i dont positively know about the hood.
  9. we have a complete one at Tommy's Steel and Salvage in Pasco, WA. Its pretty much untouched. but also my family owns a carpet cleaning business and we specialize in flood clean up, that car would be no problem for me.
  10. or, if you dont wanna put the time in i'd be more then willing to restore her. thats i what i do ^.^
  11. Miles means nothing when tearing down an engine. It's still the same process. You might just find more to replace.
  12. Well. If you didn't drive it too much like that it might be rebuildable, if the cranks not trashed. Even at that you can just get a new crank. You'll have to ask someone else about ej22 swappin.
  13. Yeah. I was gonna say....... we have 3 Chevy trucks with that same mirror. Dang. I was intending to reply to another post xD. Last post pg 490
  14. I'm assuming it's an auto, cause it sounds like your trans is on its way out. Check your trans fluid and diff fluid. They should be clean and up to level, and the trans fluid should not have a burnt smell. Yes, smell it. Your trans is actually bogging down your engine.
  15. Ok then. I'll just chill with it then till I can tear it apart and see if the cylinder walls can be honed out and reuse the block with a new rotating assembly.
  16. Actually I wanted to use the heads on my 2.2. One of the rods are bent cause it was ran low on oil. On the ej25. It has a bent rod. Not my ej22.
  17. Should my 1996 legacy have a lock for the shifter? I can shift without pressing the brake and shift into any gear without the ignition unlocked. Is that normal???
  18. Do your turn signals still work? Your on the right track checking the fuses first. What I found out is if that little square thing behind the button goes bad nothing turn signal related will work. That's of course if your legacy is the same as my 1996 legacy.
  19. Shouldn't everything be the same between the n/a ej22 and the ej22t??? Of course other than the cross member. I would have thought the electrical connections and such would be the same.
  20. The one at the junk yard is bolted to an automatic trans. Do they have a differently built auto for the turbo legacy? I'm hoping I can just bolt it in. My car is already auto and I don't really feel like changing it. Somehow or another I'm starting to like my auto :/ And I already I need the cross member.
