Hey General, there are D/r's for the EJ motors, jes not in the US. I'm working on a way to get some of them over here for us from Australia or NewZeland. As for bobbing the Baja, if you did that, there wouldn't be much bed left, if any at all. If I got a Baja, I could weld up the rear doors, then remove the rear firewall, and move it to jes behind the rear seats, wha lah, a new Brat, as for a six, gimme about 15 years, and I'll have a 3.3 stuff into one, with a 6" lift and some real offroad tires and a good tranny. My bank is haveing a raffle thing, and one of the prizes is a new Baja, so if I do win, then this may not be 15 years in the future. Muw wa ha ha ha

Finally got my drivelines for the Brat today, it was awsome! Had it in double low, first gear, and let it idle up the street, got out, walked around it, and then got back in again!!! Ohh yeah!! Still got some work to do before the trip next weekend, but it's getting there!!! Hope to have pics up before the weekend!

Rebuilding the 2.7 six

It's amazing how often lifter noise gets coughed up as engine problems. Have you had the engine running? Does it sound really bad? I picked up an 88 sedan for 200 bucks cause of "rod knock", lifter noise, my ER27 had "piston slap", lifters again. Resealed both motors, and they ran like new. -
I've seen one of those in an EA81 wagon, with the highrise center console, didn't know if it was from that year or what, but had wanted one. (this was in the walmart parkin lot) :-\

I don't have any of those little handheld radio's, they seemed to be quite the fad in Egypt, so I opted out of getting them (I tend to stray away from the beaten path). Thanks for the reminder Bri, I still have to do some lighting and radio action on my rig, I'm trying to decide whether I want to go with rollbar, or without, if I decide to put it in, it'll have to be last minute cause the Brat don't fit in the carport with it in there :-\ -
The cube, If I remember correctly is called a disc brake piston tool, you can find it at autozone in the isle with all the tools, it'll most likely be to the far right staring at the tools, if that store followed it's plan-o-gram right (used to work at one). Also, I open up the bleeder a little before I do mine, makes it easier.

I jes resealed my EA82 about 6 months ago, and even when it was first done, the oil pressure would be about 10-15 at idle, not too much of a problem. If it's sitting closer to 0 at idle, then I would worry about it.

Badges Vintage, (question)
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went out and checked it with the one on my 80 Brat, and it's the same one, so it's an EA71 part. Kinda funny, cause the yard that I found it laying in, has ben bare of 84's and older for like 4 years now, so finding it was pretty rare!!! -
Spiralmax superchargers...anyone tried?
Adam N.D.J. replied to StormTrooper's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We actually got a few of these in school and tested em out, they are pretty much a fancily cut soda can that your stickin in the intake, did nothing for the cars, didn't slow em down, or speed em up, pure waste of money. -
I was looking into running two straight axles for a while, but shyed away from it cause it would be too easy, (yeah, you read that right), least for me anyways, I've made quite a few 4-link setups, and it might take me about 2 days to have the axles in there. Also it kinda takes away from the whole being a Soob without haveing the independant suspension, there are ways of getting around our suspension, jes needs some more work, and trying to figure that out is fun (least to me), so I'll get back to ya'll in the spring when my new suspension is done,

Badges Vintage, (question)
Adam N.D.J. replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks, I'm not near my gen I so I couldn't check to see if it was the same one. This one is going on my computer, it's jes the perfect addition to it. -
Hey everyone, was wondering if ya'll could help me out with identifying the vintage of this badge that I found, doesn't look like anything from the 80's or newer, I'm thinking 70's, but how far back? Thanks, Here's a pic of it.

Yeah, I've had the lovely experience with the little drill at the emergency room. I had a wire wheel on a bench grinder, and one of the wires came off and embedded it's self deep into the gooey part of my eye, took the doctors like an hour to drill it out, then I had to wear an eye patch with my eye taped shut for a week, it sucked! -

Ohkay, here's an area map of where we're going. I've been out in this area tonnes of times, so I know it really well. The trails don't look like much from this map, but it'll give you a good idea of what we're working with here. At the bottom you can see I-5, to the far left bottom corner is Grants Pass, and the center bottom where I-5 pops into the map for a second is Rogue River, the campsite and day area's are layed out there. Hope this isn't too big, it's been resized, there is a bigger one in my gallery on the usmb. These are USGS maps, and are pretty good, jes go to usgs.gov Here's the bigger version Bigger map -
Should I get another sube??
Adam N.D.J. replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Tryin to catch up with me Bri? Yeah, this is a good deal your getting here, and if your trading a computer, then you could have the bill of sale written out for like a buck, try taxing that!! Thats one of the things that I like about up there, buying a car, the car costs just what's asked for it, and I think that I pay like 50 bucks every couple of years, means that I'm out like 200 bucks for my four, but that ain't too bad. Anyways, GET THE WAGON!!!!! -

Ohkay, was wondering if everyone has a CB in their rig? It's a good thing to have one jes in case, you know, when you have one, you'll never need it, but when you don't, whoo boy. I've jes got a cheap 20 dollar one in the Brat, but it works jes fine, and has a pretty good range, doesn't have to be real fancy. -
When ever I go out to the dunes, I usually air down my tires to 20-25psi in the rear, and about 15-20 in the front. (depending on load). But sand is a whole other bag than mud or rocks. Street pressure for my tires is 55 psi, so thats down quite a bit. Subaru's really shouldn't air down for rocks and whot not, cause too much traction can cause you to destroy axles, (or stubs in the diff's) Some slip is better on the drivetrain. I've learned that one the hard way.

factory oil cooler pics please?
Adam N.D.J. replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got an oil cooler on my ER27, useing the EA81T piece. It jes bolts onto the pump with a large bolt, pretty simple, and works on EA series engines. I've got tranny cooler hose for mine, and have had no problems with it. As long as the cooler is in good airflow, and doesn't block anything else, it should really be fine. -
My SPFI has the optical dizzy in it, which needs the computer to operate (same dizzy on the ER27). If you are still useing the computer to operate ignition, then it should work fine, or if you have have a standard magnetic pickup dizzy it'll be fine. If you do have the optical, and aren't useing the computer, it'll prolly not work. Things to keep an eye out for.

Is my Voltage Regulator broke?
Adam N.D.J. replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Must be about that time for the Soobs. On my way home today in the 3-door, we started it up, and all the idiot lights were on, and the voltage wouldn't go over 9 volts regardless of RPM. Then on the freeway the lights went out, and the voltage went up to 12 and held. So it's bout time for a new alternator. As for overvoltage, it can boil your battery, and that is a really bad thing for the bat. Should be fixed asap. -
New hatch progress*updated 9/6* pics
Adam N.D.J. replied to harpua's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does Ken know that you jacked his Hatch? That is a pretty nice lookin rig though, and a 3rd eye to boot. Good score. -
GCK Axles- Anyone tried these?
Adam N.D.J. replied to SubaRube's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got 2 CCT's from Autozone on the Brat, and they've held up to the 6 and 30" tires now with no problems. They are lifetime warranty axles too, so if they do breaks, I jes take em back, and trade em in on some new ones. These are the front ones, haven't replaced the rear ones yet, haven't had too. -

Yeah, seems that way, I actually sit down and plan something out months in advance. Ie Ie Ie. Exhaust is coming together now, Not much more left to do. Hope that I'm not stuck with something at the last minute. I still have to cut out the front diff, Ie Ie Ie. Oh well, back to work. -
How much you want to spend, and how far do you want to travel? I've got a set of jump seats and a fender of your vintage. There aren't and Brat specific clubs, but there are Soob clubs up there, this is the meeting point for most of them (us). I'm in Southern Oregon though, if'n you want to come down here. Or if you're in no real big hurry I do venture up there every so many months, bout due for a trip next month or so.

Turn signal relocation
Adam N.D.J. replied to PHATBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you have orange corners then it'll be ohkay to use em for the turns, you jes have to splice the wires into em. Although the clear corners are illegal in most states.
