same noise on the 97 outback 2.2 , the owner before , new resurfaced heads, hg, timing belt, water pump , pullies, drove it 200 miles and started to make noise in motor, i took drivers side timing belt cover off , timing belt new and ok, noise seems to come from around oil pump area, started it removered plug wire no difference in noise, noise gets louder if i rev the motor up ,

wear safety glasses when changing fuel filter, pull it outside it will loose alittle gas [ smell garage up] make sure you put it the right way on, real easy, i always spray ailttle pb blaster on the fittings to loosen the hoses, will be fairly tight ,if you use pliers be careful not to put a hole in the line,as far as the belts i would

iam in the same boat, but 170,000mi legacy a/t wagon i have changed everything , except rear 02 sensor, still getting 1 code map sensor, which could affect mpg, i am only getting 20 city , -

afriend of mine with a 84 brat a/t ,ea81 motor , carb, he bought a different gas tank [ used], but good shape, his problem is it is vapor locking ,,new fuel filters, different canister , ,he can only drive it with the gas cap real loose, , if the cap is tight the truck will hardly start, he switched the lines still the same thing, any help ??

can you drill a hole in the rear bearing housing and put a grease insert ,or better to put in self sealed bearing , and can you still buy them ? thanks

i am also getting it in my oil catch can but on a 95 legacy 2.2 motor -

this might be a dumb question , but has she changed driving habits, meaning shorter trips , more idling, both my subaru's are 2.2 1 is 95 other 1 is a 97 , the 95 gets around 22-23- mpg, the 97 gets 24-25 mpg, and both have 170,000mi om them , i have done everything possible to the 95 to get better mpg, , but i make short trips with it,
