  1. ***EDIT MODS:*** Go figure, I cleared my cache and the off topic forum popped up. Sorry for the improper location, move please? Okay, okay, I know this is nowhere near the right forum for this, but for some reason the off topic general discussion forum keeps disappearing, and so I mean, delete or move this if you want mods, sorry for the trouble, BUT: I know there's some people on here that are interested in science, and some of those people may not be aware that the transit of Venus past the sun is occurring *right now* and it's the last time it's going to happen for another 100 years or so, so it's the *last* chance you have to view it in your lifetime. Without further ado here is a link to Nasa's Mauna Kea, Hawaii observatory video feed of the spectacle: http://sunearthday.nasa.gov/webcasts/nasaedge/ There is also a google map underneath the stream with a bunch of pins. Those are links to video feeds from other observatories around the world.
  2. You can't get any wheelspin? In the rain on the boulevard the other day had it chirp and spin into second gear. It made me chuckle haha:banana:
  3. In other news: My cigarette lighter has decided to start acting like those toasters that pop the toast 2 feet in the air. When the lighter pops, it flies across the car now
  4. think your speedo might be off a little though, 4500 is too high for 65. at 65 mph you should be right at 4000 rpm. You can cruise at 65, I've made trips up to canada doing just that speed the entire way. If I'm only on the highway briefly i'll even do 70-80 mph but this is usually only for say 5 to 10 minutes. You keep it at 60-65 you'll get about 270 miles to a tank of gas on the highway. Note: I've never managed to get my loyale to hit 100 mph. Not that you may want to, just a fact. I've hit 97 mph and I was a hair below redline. My 5 speed GL will do 100 no problems. Make sure your tranny fluid is full btw. Good practice when it's often spinning so fast.
  5. Aren't Facebook, ebay, and Craigslist all "Website"s? I'd be more specific with the website option. Maybe "Other Website".
  6. *damn* that thing is nice! How would you gauge your happiness with your purchase on a scale of 1-10 haha. 'Grats!! Any plans?
  7. Could try posting in the wanted forums. Also if you do a bit of searching, there are ways people have gotten it to work with the hardware you already have. There was a thread on here last week if I recall touching on this very subject. Good luck!
  8. Pretty sure you can't use the dummy light connection. And it's pretty much a trust it's bad type of thing with those gauges.
  9. Thank you for reminding me to go pick up some PB! Really hoping nothing breaks... never done this work before, car is low mileage though so things still look relatively clean.
  10. Does your oil light come on at all when this happens? *(See my note; this might not apply) My guess would be that the wire for the oil gauge is loose. *Note: Came up with my own question; If the car has an in-dash oil pressure gauge, does it still have the dummy light in the cluster too?
  11. I'll bet his car it's not the wires. If new wires don't fix it, I'll gladly get rid of that eyesore of a lawn ornament for you free of charge! =P hehe Hopefully new wires fixes it. Good luck!
  12. Hook up an aftermarket oil pressure gauge if you want a more accurate reading. If I don't say it, somebody else is going to; The oil pressure gauge in the dash is not very accurate at all and should not be used to gauge oil pressure. Nice find though. Let's get some pics!
  13. If it is leaking steadily, make absolutely certain you keep it topped up. These motors are apparently notorious for needing headgasket work at the slightest overheat..
  14. Front end time for Ben...ordered: -Set of KYB's -MOOG inner + outer tie rods -MOOG ball joints Later on down the road we'll get around to doing the rears. Looking forward to how he feels after the fact. Any tidbits for the job at hand?
  15. Doesn't necessarily mean headgasket. It could just have two separate leaks. The coolant leak could be a number of things. The lower radiator hose is nearby where you mention it drips. If it's touching the engine and leaking, it'd just dribble down. That hose connects to a short pipe that connects to the water pump inlet. The leak could also be that pipe either on the hose end or on the water pump end. -The waterpump itself may be leaking. There is also a small 90* rubber elbow hose that comes out of the very top of the waterpump that could be leaking.
  16. Think this has swayed me towards moog ball joint instead of the 10 dollar no name ones I was eying on ebay..
  17. Did you doing that have anything to do with the auxiliary tape deck input on the back?
  18. Dug this up as I'm also in the market for some front struts....I was eying the acdelco struts on rockauto. Anybody have any experience with dem der struuuts?
  19. Sounds like it to me =\
  20. Don't get him started.. haha For one thing, the engine. The EJ series engines are heralded as the pinnacle of Subaru engineering basically, and the EA series engine in that GL (specifically the EA82) is heralded as a mess... Under-engineered, not very reliable, noisy, etc. GD bases his tendency toward the Legacy solely on cost effective-ness, I believe, and, ultimately, the better bang for buck. He'll correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure, but pretty sure the legacy's are recommended for these reasons. That being said, if you *have* the money to spare, and you *want* an EA series vehicle and it turns out to be in great shape, don't let anybody talk you out of it. We're here to give our opinions, but that's solely what they are; opinions. The final decision is up to you. In *my* opinion, the 3 speed auto trans in that vehicle is a down-side, but not a deal killer. It will still drive, and drive well, but if you do a lot of highway driving, it's also going to drive you nuts . The price is just about spot on for the condition / mileage of that vehicle, based on the pictures. If there's minimal to no rust, I'd call it a home run. If you are technically inclined, and have experience wrenching on cars, I'm pretty sure through the guidance on this bulletin board, you would be able to pull off a 5 speed swap. That is entirely dependent upon you and your confidence in doing so however. Good luck with your decision! It's a nice wagon.
  21. I wouldn't be able to bring myself to part that thing out if it turns out to be as clean as it looks. No way, no how. Buy it and EJ it. Why do things like these never show up around me?
  22. If you feel confident that it can be done within you and your father's means, snatch it up. That thing looks great. 700 is not a bad deal, I'd try and talk it down to 6 though if possible. I say go for it, even if in the end it doesn't work out you can turn around and sell.
  23. Personally, I'd be all over it for 1k if it wasn't a wagon, but I just don't like wagons. Looks like it's pretty clean and low mileage too. Does suck that it's an auto, but that can always be swapped out. What would your plans for it be?
  24. I've got a write-up for the last one. I did the oil pump on our 93 loyale and the one on the carbed 87 GL. I'll edit this post when I find the write-up. It's a roughly written guide but covers all bases. If you have any specific questions i'd be glad to help out, ask them here for everybody to chime in and you can always PM me. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=128964
  25. I fear the day I have to try and remove my driver's side axle, which, from all appearances, looks like a mechanic cut off the shaft of a small phillips head screwdriver and rammed that in there
