  1. You very much like yellow, my friend, don't you? Haha. I saw the earlier post of a bracket painted, you do an excellent job painting. The paint is very even and very thick. Comes out very professional looking.
  2. That is a good link to have. Thanks for that. For now, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but if it ever gets worse, I know where to start.
  3. I have two of these ea82's, a 93 loyale and an 87 GL. The key to the 87 GL (original key) works in the door locks, trunk, glove box, and ignition of the Loyale. It's a bit finicky (gotta wiggle it around a bit) but it works. The key to the Loyale (also original key) however does not work on any of the locks, trunk, glove box, or ignition in my 87 GL. The GL is the car I locked the keys in today lol. Go figure. The key to the Loyale
  4. Just in case this happens to anybody else, as it just did to me; milesfox' method is by far the easiest. Didn't help me feel too safe about my car after completing it in about 50 seconds either.... Trying to get leverage on something to pop the door lock inward is too much of a pain. Rear doors are indeed easiest. Pop the window out a bit at the top rear corner. Shove a wedge in there to hold it in place. Work the top of the window out of the roof frame a little bit at a time, eventually the window will just pop out completely along the top of the door. Bend the window back at the top forward most part of the window (It has a *lot* of play) shove your arm in and unlock the door. And never keep valuables in your vehicle again after figuring all of this out. Unbelievably easy.
  5. Yeah, unless I keep it in 1st or 2nd, just flooring it in D from a stop it still usually shifts around 5500 or so. The 3AT really begs one to exercise their gas pedal. The car is absolutely, horrendously slow, unless you aren't afraid to push the pedal to the floor, and often.
  6. When I first started driving the Loyale around, I thought this was a real strange occurrence too, but I've gotten used to it. in final (3rd) gear when you're going at speeds above about 35 mph, when you abruptly let your foot off the gas, you can feel the vehicle engine braking. It even jerks you forward a little bit, too. It's more evident at higher speeds. I think this just has to do with the way the transmission is geared. Because it only has 3 speeds, when you're doing 50 mph it's at 3k-ish RPMS and when you let your foot off, it's the same engine braking effect you get as if you were in 1st gear going 10 mph at 3k and then suddenly let your foot off the gas. It's not as harsh of an engine braking of course as it would be in 1st, but it is there. I'm pretty sure it's normal. And for me, shift points based on a light, casual acceleration are about 1st to 2nd 2600 RPM 2nd to 3rd 2400 RPM +/- 100 RPM. What bugs me about the tranny is how it doesn't (well mine doesn't at least) downshift quite properly, for instance; Driving down a block, very light throttle, doing about 28-30 mph the car is now in 3rd gear. Approaching a right hand turn, slow down, take the turn at about 10 mph (15 if I'm feeling frisky or need something that's too far to the right on the dashboard for me to reach) and then accelerate down that block, the car remains in 3rd gear. 10-15 mph in 3rd gear. Does the same thing in 2nd gear too, if I'm approaching a turn at a lower speed and the trans is in 2nd, I can come to almost a complete stop and then begin accelerating and it'll still be in 2nd and be groaning. I've begun to just shift the car manually from first to second and then into drive when I need 3rd. Works fine for me, I usually make it shift at 3k. Downshift from 3rd to 2nd when I hit inclines and such. For some reason I can never *NEVER* downshift into 1st gear while doing anything other than barely rolling otherwise there is a very violent downshift. Not sure why that is. Sorry to ramble, I'll shut up now haha.
  7. Ben (93 Loyale) is my girlfriend's first car. It was my introduction to these vehicles actually, I remember she needed a car for school. The guidelines were: Cheap, reliable, and good on gas. That's when I came across him on Craigslist. 1993 Subaru Loyale LOW MILES! WTF...is a Loyale? I remember thinking haha I clicked the link and I saw the machine. I recall telling her I found a great car for her. The drawback, I told her, was that it was ugly as all hell. It was listed for 1-5 we got it for 1 even. This was 2 years ago. 84,040 miles on it now as of this morning. She recently was involved in a fender bender (literally; the fender is very bent now) and when faced with the notion of perhaps finally giving up the little car that took us to Canada just last year, she actually teared up and cried a little. So yeah, she's a keeper. As is Ben. Neither she nor I think he's that ugly anymore, the look really grows on you. Then a year after she got him, I got my GL! Which I may have to part with But let's focus on the positive haha Cheers.
  8. I found for my brother a 94 Impreza that at the time had 150,000 miles on it. It was $600. It was beat up. It had no hubcaps, just black ugly steelies. The interior wasn't the cleanest. I tell you what though, that car started right up every time and continues to do so to this day. The front rotors have been replaced and the ignitor was replaced. As well as the MAF. Those are the only things that have been done to the car and it now has 210,000 miles on it and it still starts up every day and goes where-ever it is directed to go. It's got three trips to Florida under it's belt and at least 20 trips between NJ and NY and PA. It's going to need a clutch soon and the axle's done, but engine wise...it's the energizer bunny.
  9. Jeszek, This one was 2 1/2" thick, so not quite ultra slim lol, but slim. It barely fits as is, but I did manage to get it installed as a puller and until i get the car torn down a bit to pull out the fender and bumper it's just attached with real heavy zip-ties through the radiator. Not quite as clean as I'd like to have it, but after the accident priorities switched from getting things done properly to getting things done by whatever means necessary lol. Hopefully after I hook up the chain and yank the body panels out a bit I can get it fastened better (and get the car looking better)
  10. Good question, do ea81's have the same mickey mouse gaskets?
  11. You are correct; the lower hose inlet is at a steeper angle than the stock radiator. I found that instead of using the normal hose to go from that inlet to the water-pump pipe, I used another upper hose that goes from the thermostat to the radiator. Fit just right. Is a little strange they got the design off a bit there, but aside from that, no other surprises. = )
  12. $46.00 shipped. Grabbed one of those off ebay not too long ago. Decent quality, unbeatable price. If they are the same for ea81's as ea82's, I'd just throw a new rad. in if you can't get it flushed. Link here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400282694272?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Hope you can get it sorted.
  13. Got that thrown in Ben today. Was able to get it finagled into the stock position of the old electric fan. It sits about 1/4" away from the crank pulley, which I don't like, but there's nothing I can do to avoid that for now, so that's how it stays. Feels great to not have to watch the temp gauge all the time due to no fans. FYI, with an ambient temp range of 50-80 degrees (as it has varied from/to while the car was in a no fan state) our cars, with a fully functioning cooling system, will run in a safe temp range with absolutely NO cooling fans 95 percent of the time. I ran Ben with no fans for the past month 1/2 and the only time he ever started to heat up was sitting in traffic or while driving slowly looking for parking. Never did he hit the danger mark either.
  14. Misread that, I stand corrected. In that case the dimensions you need are listed in that link and you can get any waterpump following those guidelines. I, personally, haven't had any issues with the cheap-o duralast (knock on wood) however, that's not to say others haven't as well. Guess I've been lucky. They do come with a lifetime guarantee as well so with the new (to me) news of their higher failure rate I still feel a bit rest assured, but at any rate! Hope you're able to get the parts you need!
  15. Okay, so if GD is correct and one type of waterpump is on the vehicles with factory AC and one is on the vehicles with dealer installed AC...that means that the duralast waterpump I have linked to and have installed in my GL and Loyale is the one that goes on the vehicles with factory installed a/c. Factory installed a/c = inboard compressor outboard alternator. Your gl10 is dealer installed ac, correct? From left to right the alternator is in-board and the a/c compressor is outboard? If that is the cased, based on GD, you need the OTHER waterpump. Not the one I have linked to and photographed. To determine which one to eliminate, click the autozone link and look at the dimensions. You need the other one.
  16. Could I bug you guys to tell me what the carrier bearing mount is? Or where it is (or should be)? lol
  17. If your waterpump looks like the ones above I recommend the Duralast BWP-683 Which is the water-pump pictured in the lower photo and can also be seen here http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-New-Water-Pump/1993-Subaru-Loyale/_/N-j01jiZ8ii0v?itemIdentifier=17509_387998_10947_ If you want to try and find it cheaper can always look on Ebay. I'm currently running these exact pumps in my GL and my Loyale with no problems. They are good quality.z Pretty sure this is the pump you have in your vehicle. It may be hard to tell with the clutch fan attached to it, but after removing that fan and the pully (once the bolts are removed for the clutch fan the pulley just slides off) you can see it well. If you need a write-up on the waterpump replacement, I've got one on here that I could direct you to.
  18. Ahh cool thread to come across as I am debating doing basically the exact same thing. What's that bit about welding part of the drivetrain?
  19. Yeah, they are surprisingly peppy once they get going. You're not going to win any drag races, but they'll take abuse and just keep purring along. I'd say drive it like an old person 85 percent of the time, and beat the hell out of it, winding up to redline through the gears once in awhile Just to clear cobwebs
  20. Damn, I feel for you over the loss. I wonder if the flatbed has come and taken it away yet. If it's possible could you let me know what wrecking yard came to take it? When I get a chance, hopefully soon, I can make my way over there and see if there's anything I can work out with them =\

  21. How come you are selling the car? And how many miles are on it, can you get me some pics of the interior? Could you tell me what kind of maintenance you had done to it? Also, would you be looking for any trades?

  22. Does that belong to a board member here? Fellow Jerseyan?
  23. That one you've got in your car will produce an astonishing 90hp on a favorable day.
