  1. "In 2003 I just really didn't give a ************." I didn't really give much of a ************ in 2003 either. Funny!
  2. Do you have a donut on it right now, or a full size spare?
  3. Cookie would be cool. Or beer! Beer is always accepted lol
  4. A spin-off from the controversial complaining about my rear ride height while parking thread. Photographic evidence of pain-in-the a** spots.
  5. If I'm not mistaken you can get a GL/Loyale wagon up to 94.
  6. And I know you're grieving and I'm sorry to ask so soon, but if it does go to a yard, could you let me know? I need a windshield... Don't mean to be insensitive. I'm sorry for your loss. I'd be pretty upset. Hopefully my over-cautious way of asking made you laugh lol Would definitely be up to taking a drive up there when I had the chance by the way, just let me know a bit in advance when/if you have some projects coming up
  7. You know, I only live about 3 hours away from you. Maybe one of these days when it starts getting warmer out and you have some work set up to do on the cars I can drive up there and lend a hand. Sorry about the wagon, though. It doesn't look *too* bad. Try and get us some more pictures. If worse comes to worst hopefully the engine is unharmed and you can just throw it in another well kept car.
  8. Looking forward to the pictures! Congratulations on your trade!
  9. I know you said you replaced the t-stat, but it totally sounds like a stuck open t-stat. Was it new, or used; the replacement?
  10. That sounds about right. Ben is at 4000 rpm when cruising at around 66 mph. He usually gets around 25 mpg and he is very well maintained. *edit* Just read through entirely and saw what car I'm comparing to. Ben is a 3speed auto, My GL is a 5 speed though and I'm surprised to hear the mileages you guys record with them. I usually get 30+ mpg in my GL on the highway. I've hit half a tank with over 250 miles on the trip odometer, regularly. Just seems strange....though my car does only have 57,000 miles.
  11. Ben's fuel pump has been doing this since we got him 40,000 miles ago. He is SPFI. Turn the blinker on sit at a stop light and you hear the pump going rrrrrr-eeee-rrrrr-eeee-rrrrr-eeeee with the blinker.
  12. Yeah nothing at all. And yes it is under that boot that I hear the clicking. It will only click when the key is being held in the 'start' position. It doesn't do it when the key is in the 'on' position. The weird thing is that usually when this condition occurs, if I hold the key in the start position, and start hitting some electrical devices (heater, headlights, windshield wipers) either turning something on or turning something off while holding the key in the start position will get the car to start. *Usually* that will do it. Occasionally nothing like that works, and I have to disconnect the positive terminal of the battery, leave it off for a minute, and then re-attach it and 9 times out of 10 the car will start fine. I'm going to go over all the starter connections and hit them with some electrical component lubricant, as well as try to clean them up. This is the gf's car, and it's just really starting to become a pain in the rump roast when she calls me from 100 miles away saying the car won't start... Thanks for the replies.
  13. That's the weird thing, there's no click or anything. Just that slight ticking noise from under the SPFI thing. (The part on top dead center of the engine, the air intake.) The starter doesn't engage at all. I'm hoping that I can just wire in some type of emergency bypass for when it won't start. I will try cleaning all the contacts, though I don't think that will help. Thanks for the advice though. I'll keep posted what I come up with..
  14. Ben sometimes will not start. Turn the key to start position and all that happens is some solenoid under the SPFI black thing clicks, and the check engine light will pulse. (constant on, dims, bright, dims, bright, rapidly). How can I jump the starter solenoid as a bypass for whenever this happens? Is there a way I can wire in a switch to do it? In theory, what I want is Say I'm in a scenario where the car won't start. It doesn't happen too often, but it happens often enough to be annoying. So say this happens. I want to be able to leave the car in park turn the ignition to ON get out, go under the hood and press a button or something that will jump the solenoid and start the car....
  15. Yes! That altima I mentioned earlier, that was my first car. It was pretty quick, and I used to *fly* around in it, being young and stupid. After that car I had a 93 Dodge Shadow (3 speed auto) and then a 1987 Honda Accord Hatchback ( I liked that car a lot) with a 4 speed auto. Those two cars were extremely slow, and they really did teach me patience. There's no point in rushing from light to light, stop sign to stop sign, and there's really no point in zig zagging through traffic at 100 mph. (unless I am in a hurry ) Moral of the story; my son/daughter is getting something slow for their first car. Something really slow. Anybody know of any good, reliable, capable in snow, extremely slow vehicles from the mid to late 80's? hahaha.
  16. Oh yes! Thank you, forgot about that. I will check that tomorrow. I know exactly what hose you're talking about.
  17. I once accidentally went from 3rd to 2nd while merging onto the highway. This was when I was first learning how to drive a standard transmission, naturally lol. It was a 93 Nissan Altima Special Edition (disc brakes all around, special seats, stiffer suspension). I went to shift it at almost red line from 3rd to 4th, but put it into 2nd and just popped the clutch.... I've never seen a tachometer needle peg like that before, nor have I ever heard an engine make a sound like that before....It was bad. But it took it! That thing was rock solid *sniff* kinda miss it.
  18. You know what I've noticed in underpowered cars like ours? Especially when I'm loaded down with a bit of weight, the road can look like it's flat, but it is still a hill and that little bit of incline is still causing the engine to struggle. I bet there's nothing wrong with your engine, it's just the way it is. Be a little more specific about its symptoms though, I mean, does it mis-fire, sputter, or have any other signals that there may be something amiss? Or is it just purring along and you're just not gaining any speed? If it's the latter, I really wouldn't sweat it. I had semi trucks passing me at 50 mph going over the mountains in wyoming when I drove across the country in my gl. And that was in 3rd gear. Floored. As a matter of fact, I drove through almost the entire state of Wyoming with the pedal to the floor... My car did not like that state...
  19. From what I gather, rugby, .....you really beat your ea to hell lol:brow:
  20. From what I've gathered on a couple of threads on here, the dual fan set up is for cars with A/C. Which I think most of us have. On these cars, the clutch fan is the main fan for the air conditioner. The electrical fan is the main fan to cool the coolant. Cars without a/c only have the electrical fan? I could be wrong. Either way, so far I haven't noticed any temp change on my dash gauge at all without the clutch fan. I have noticed I can hear the engine much better (sounds awesome) and it is more responsive. (Very slight change, but noticeable). -Loyale2.7 This 90* you mention Is it part of the upper pipe going into the water-pump? The only hoses I know of are the narrow trans lines, the hose going to the thermostat, and the hose going to the waterpump. Can't picture a 90* in there somewhere.. :-\
  21. Yeah, I really think you're just hoping for too much out of a 70 hp engine lol. Keep it in 3rd, floor it. If it accelerates up the hill (and if it does, it's going to do so very slowly) then you're basically gold. It's just a very underpowered engine. If you try to take on the hill in third gear and you're at 4k RPMs and you have the pedal to the floor and it *still* doesn't accelerate....then you may have an issue.
  22. Pulled out clutch fan. Just running the electric one now. Will see how that works out. Trying to figure out how to get rid of my a/c compressor. Put in new in/outlet hoses on radiator. New waterpump on the way...
  23. Got a chance to check him out today, finally. Pulled out the alternator, threw the AC bracket aside. He seems to be leaking from that pipe that comes out of the top of the waterpump. Just going to replace the whole pump to be safe, it's original and should be changed out anyway. While I was rummaging through there, I ditched the mechanical fan. I've also gotten rid of the A/C condenser in front of the radiator. What I'm wondering now is if it's possible to get rid of the A/C compressor completely. Is there a way to rig up the mounting plates to still have the alternator in it's spot? I'm thinking there is, I'm just not sure if there would be enough adjustment in it to get the belt tight enough to compensate for the lack of the A/C pulleys...
  24. Actually just pulled out the mech. fan on Ben today. Gonna see how his temps look before I decide whether or not to bother with a replacement.
  25. You know to add to that real quick, I come here all the time and never have a problem. My system (I build computers for a hobby) is more than secure, and never have I ever had an issue at this board. At my brother's house one day, I jumped on the board on his Dell laptop. All seemed fine, but the next day, his computer had the ever so prominant windows xp security virus. 2012 edition. Something I'd never seen before, and even I wasn't able to get rid of it fully so I just wound up wiping it. Just a little fyi, no matter what system you use, go to CNET and download AVG anti-virus free edition. Get rid of all your other kaspersky and other types of virus protection, and just have avg. I've worked in the field. It is the best. My 2 cents on the matter. Also, back to the initial post, thank you guys for the replies, between all of you, I've got the idea of how this whole system functions down pretty good now. Cheers.
