  1. Yeah, it's def a 15+ gallon tank. If I fill up when my light comes on, I get about a 12 - 13 gallon fill. I have pulled into a gas station so low it was beginning to buck and sputter, and that fillup was 15.5 gallons.
  2. Yeah, there's two bikes back there, three people in the car, about 800 pounds in the trunk and another 400 pounds on the luggage rack and roof. It was bottomed out the entire drive. Now my back suspension is shot and I slide around on the highway over the tiniest bumps lol. It's a blast in the rain.
  3. Just cos nobody seemed to notice it, my 2 cents, is that the new bumper looks pretty awesome. Big improvement.
  4. cos I'm bored. Still so proud this thing got me from jersey to nevada and back. (OVER) LOADED.
  5. Crack a window open a little bit and remind yourself; "This is a 20+ year old car" =P
  6. If you feel like you can do it yourself, then do it yourself. Believe me, the last thing you want some rinky-dink shop to mess up is your wheel bearings. My front driver's side bearing was bad since I bought the car (87 GL) and I had a shop do the work. I gave them a tub of mobil 1 bearing grease and told them to dump the whole thing in there while they did the job. Well, my bearing is shot already (10k later) and the whole hub assembly is loose. I just keep tightening up the castle nut and put a new pin in till I get the money to take care of the job. The bearings got so bad they wore out my hub, so now I need a new hub. Anybody? Anybody? haha
  7. Was your car utilizing both pulleys on the now-fried alternator? Because I (could be mistaken) have only ever seen single belt pulleys. I just swapped out an alternator on the loyale and the replacement was a double pulley. I was like wtf, but I just used one of them (inner).
  8. Coming down the block..... It's a porsche! It's a lawnmower! No! It's...oh. It's just a subaru. =P I really shouldn't get on the forums till I've had some coffee...hahaha:drunk:
  9. on a side note, however, is it *really* all that unpractical to just throw one on our cars and leave it at W.O.T? How fast would we go? 70? 80? 90? Just kiddin, and yes I know. Our cars are capable of speed; they just take awhile to get there. I've hit 97 in my GL I probably would have been doing 100 if I had this aerocarb though! haha
  10. man.....*sniff*...that was beautiful man.....
  11. I bought an 87 GL in April and drove it from New Jersey to Nevada and back for burning man and all I changed were the spark-plugs. I was also carrying about 1,000 pounds of ************ in and on it. And at points couldn't get above 35 mph going over the mountains. When I got back to Jersey the water pump blew. :-D
  12. Actually, they're not nearly as complicated as they seem. Mechanically, that is. They're pretty simple. I rebuilt a rochester 2bbl carb on my Nova last summer, and the whole process was a breeze. A very dusty...rusty....dirty breeze.
  13. I don't know how easy it's going to be for you to find a light blue 85-88 in excellent shape let alone for the work required to fix it. This is just food for thought and you don't have to take my advice, but if I were you, I'd just take whatever you can get in the mean-time just to make it look better if your state is stringent about sharp edges on vehicles, and then take your time to find the right parts. Pulling off the body panels to get to the skeleton underneath, and then to start straightening it all out, is quite a job. That's unless you're going to have it done in a shop of course. The girlfriend had her 93 loyale for less than two weeks, and it was MINT, and she drove it into a light-post. Same side too. Very similar damage actually. I used a hand cranked come along winch strapped to an F350 super duty to pull the innerfender wall back into shape, and then just went to town with hammers to straighten the rest out. Came out pretty good. Either way, good luck with your endeavors!
  14. Just a curiosity question; standard transmission vehicles were available with pushbutton 4wd?
  15. I'm just throwing my thought out here, but I'd try to disable the button, so that you can just enable it when you would like to use it. Idk if the mechanism is vacuum operated, or electric, but if it's electrical, then possibly you can pull a fuse to prevent it from engaging?
  16. On a side note, now that I took a closer look and realized the scrap car was a newer loyale, I was just wondering, what parts are interchangable between the GLs and the Loyales. Obviously, bumpers are diff. But what about stuff like the grille, fenders, etc?
  17. Thought I'd chime in here, was just sifting through ebay and came across this wagon that's listed as being in the pacific northwest. Maybe you could contact the seller and if it's near enough to you, go fetch some parts off of it. Best of luck, sorry about your crunch there. http://www.ebay.com/itm/90-91-92-93-94-LOYALE-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION-/230573660582?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ASubaru|Model%3ALoyale&vxp=mtr&hash=item35af42d9a6
  18. he's a spammer. Click that little exclaimation point to report. I'm sure a mod'll run across him sooner or later tho.
  19. Running out of gas probably sucked up some gunk from the bottom of the tank, which is probably clogging up your fuel filter a little bit and also gunking up your carb, which is leading you to get less miles to the gallon than you initially thought you get.
  20. Just tell him you run your car without any oil in it because that way it improves the warmth of your heater. =)
  21. *tear* okay already! Just stop it! I'll take it!
  22. So, I never really jumped in the meet n' greet. Kinda jumped right into wrenching on my car so I am in the tech forums a lot lol, I think it's absolutely awesome that there is a good, active community involved with these vehicles we drive and are passionate about! This place really rocks, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your input and feedback and help for everything I've dealt with thus far and may in the future! With all that good fun stuff out of the way, I am apparently one of the few people in the northeast US that owns an 87 GL. I see that these cars are real popular in the midwestern states, recently took a road trip to nevada and saw a ton of gls and loyales and the like! Here in New Jersey and the surrounding states though, they appear to be quite uncommon, which makes my car unique here, and I get a lot of questions about it! I'd like to share some pictures of my 87 GL, which I bought in April for too much money. (1200) I was put on to these cars by chance actually, when I needed to find a good, cheap, reliable car for the girlfriend to use to commute to school and such. I found her a 93 Loyale spfi Fwd auto for 1,000. It was in pristine condition and only had 51,000 miles on it. This was last August. It now has 77,000 miles on it =) That car is awesome and I'll share some pictures of it at a later time. To continue though, I liked that car so damn much, I had to get one of my own and wound up finding the 87 GL 5speed (<3) dual range 4wd (also <3) It sat for years, was barely used. She currently has 55,000 miles from driving across the country and back, but had 42,000 miles when I got her back in April. I've had to do the front wheel bearings on the car, swap in a new axle, and, after the road trip, replace the water pump thus far. Plans in the future are new shocks and struts, the rear struts are absolutely destroyed, and some rust repair. I need a new grille too =( I'll shut up now and let the pictures speak for themselves though. Thank you for reading!
  23. I always thought when the needle hits the red line on the tach, that *that's* when to shift! Silly me.
