  1. Yeah, probably was just luck. Every nut I unscrewed I was a bit worried it was going to snap the plastic, but nothing broke at all. In fact, after I removed them I cleaned them and they look brand new. Might post them up on ebay, they could pass for NOS.
  2. Just got ordered for Ben; for repairs; -Waterpump -Upper radiator hose For tune up; -NGK spark plugs 6261 V power plugs -NGK wireset -Distributor cap -Rotor -Air filter -PVC valve -Fuel filter For Gen. Maint. -Mobil 1 oil filter -Mobil super 5000 10/30 oil. Things I forgot to order while I was at it: -Clamps -Antifreeze lol. Got some fun coming in the mail haha
  3. Cool! Guess I got lucky with my covers, they all came right off. Low mileage cars probably had something to do with it. Here's to nothing happening! haha:clap:
  4. Classic! lol, don't you hate that moment when you realize what you did and you're just........DAMMIT! lol
  5. .......Can I have your GL-10 guts? lol
  6. That is an interesting fact; I never would have guessed.
  7. Thought this was a cool idea, and maybe it'll revive. Anyway, I got a quick question; What would cause an entirely stock vehicle to have an off center steering-wheel? My 87 GL has a lot of front end issues, it only has 52,000 miles and has never been modified in any way. When the wheels are straight, the steering-wheel is rotated clock-wise about 5 degrees....
  8. Here's a quick guide/write up I put together. It's not the most intuitive but if you read it through, it'll help get you through it. There's some pictures as well. If you have any questions about the procedure, PM me. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=128964
  9. Not necessarily. Not familiar with your car but if it has drums in the back, you could have a shoe dragging on the drum, regardless of whether brakes are applied or not. Could possibly have a bad caliper if its discs in the back and have a slightly rubbing/catching pad as well. Not ruling out your ideas at all, but just wanted to throw my two cents in not to completely rule out the brakes. Just a thought. Hope you get it figured out!
  10. Random question; Do 5 speed GL series vehicles have clutch switches on the starter? I can start my GL without pushing in the clutch.
  11. You haven't taken any Ambian lately have you? =P Good ol' sleep-driving!
  12. If you make a tester out of an ordinary spare 12v car light (tail-light, dome light, turn signal light, whatever,) or if you have a voltmeter of some sort, just pull out the cigarette lighter, unplug it, stick your tester leads into the connector, and see if it lights up. The cigarette lighter itself is probably all corroded inside and there's just not enough undamaged metal to make any good electrical contacts. Should just get a new socket. Those things get pretty abused over the years..
  13. Had my hood cable snap awhile back too, though, instead of shelling out for a new cable and running it, I just disassembled the hood lock mechanism and attached some electrical BX wire to it, heavy gauge copper. Snipped the wire about 3 feet long and I tucked it into the splash guard underneath and behind the front bumper. Just gotta reach in there and give it a tug, and voila, hood is open. Not the safest bet though, as if anybody really wanted to and happened to look for it, they could open up my hood in theory, but it's worked for me for a good year now.
  14. Does it light a cigarette lighter? Sometimes you gotta twist around and play with accessory connectors to get them to make contact right.
  15. lol, somebody should start a poll. What happened to Ned? a.) He moved himself. b.) His owner forgot he moved him. c.) He was pushed d.) He was the victim of racial profiling.
  16. I have done the exact same thing to Ben and he is exhibiting the exact same results. Little more throttle response, can hear the engine better now (no more WHIIRRRRRRRR), and the elec. fan pops on at just the right time to bring the temp down a little bit. Still think I as well am going to get an AUX fan to run in there just in case. Gonna work on pulling the compressor out when I do the waterpump soon...
  17. To add on topic, my wipers are horrible. Can't wait to get that sorted out. I have to peek around the windshield while driving in rain to find the spots I can see through haha.
  18. If it's a stick-shift and you left it in neutral with just the emergency brake on, somebody could have easily just pushed it with their vehicle.
  19. lol, I read through this and my GL has basically every symptom GD describes earlier that could cause backfiring. Bad wires, bad plugs, bad distributor cap, worn rotor, it's running very rich and I have a huge, huge hole in the exhaust at the Y pipe, which started small, but after a couple backfires, got louder and louder, and it's actually a bit larger than a softball. My car is loud. And back-fires. A lot. Ahhh, money. lol
  20. Hello! *wave* Really like that RX you got there. Especially those rims on the back, those are pretty awesome.
  21. Looks awesome! Congrats again, I'm a bit jealous, that thing is clean. Just double clutch into 3rd and you should be good! lol
  22. Have you retightened the carb? After you rebuild a carb and install it on the car, it's a good idea (due to vibration while running) to take it off again and go over every bolt on it and retighten it. Don't mean disassemble it again, i mean all the bolts that mate the different parts of it together. Just make sure it's all tight. This suggestion comes from the old Rochester carbs I rebuilt for 70's chevys. Retighten it down to the manifold too after a bit.
  23. That poor cement support. Having dirty audi all up on it =\ haha
