Resurrecting the Free Wrecked 96' Outback, 5/11 update
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks guys, car looks a lot worse in real life and up close but hey I'm broke. Yes I did inspect the other cam pully since I had to pull em off to replace the back cover. Took it through emissions the other day, passed with flying colors. Then went and begged and pleaded for another temp since the people my Brother got the car from are on an RV trip, and I still need the trust paperwork for the title. Ended up walking away with a 60 day temp should be plenty of time to get the rest of the paperwork. Been driving it as my daily for interviews/job searching etc, and is great. As soon as I land another job I'll be fixing it even more. Yeti I'll take/pay for that skin & reinforcement if you ever get your bumper. Oh and if you get sick of waiting and want another one built I know a guy who builds off-road rigs for a living that I'm sure would do it for ya, oh and he's in-state

LOL, My Bro-in-law lives right near it I will ask him if he's been up there recently and if it's passable. I will however suggest we hit something a tad lighter maybe slaugher house, etc first. Will also talk to my friend and see if his wife's parents still own the mining claim near the top of Red Cone, if so we could probably just camp there.

Resurrecting the Free Wrecked 96' Outback, 5/11 update
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell been awhile, but I have gotten alot done. Got the new timing cover, new timing belt and finished putting the engine completely back together. Had a new windshield installed...and have been doing hours of body work, sanding, bondo, etc... Still having a hard time finding a hood/fender in the same color but they'll show up sometime, is fine for now. I hit a few yards today and picked up a backlight bar for the tailgate, another headlight (mounts broken but it was cheap and at least the lens isn't cracked at all), picked myself up an ashtray (hate cars without ashtrays), and happened to get lucky and find a bumper cover that was only slightly jacked up. Happens to be jacked up on the corner my car was hit on so works great. I have a temp tag on it now, title is a "living trust" title, so waiting on some more paperwork to get real plates. Been driving it around and it's great no problems what so ever. Have updated the link with the newest pics: http://subaru.kacsh.com/96legacy/96legacy.html So far here is my running total on resurrecting this OBW..think you guys will be pleanstly surprised...know I am since I'm still looking for a new job. $00.00 Purchase Price $32.32 Cam Gear $15.00 Timing Cover $44.13 Timing Belt $190.20 Windshield $85.00 Back lightbar/ashtray/headlight/bumper cover Total: $366.65 But of course here's a preview of what it looks like now/my shotty body work: If you look at what the car looked like when I got it...I think it's 1000% better now, and very cheaply! Still have more work do of course but it's getting good. Oh and this will be my new Daily Driver....so the old gen guy is moving to a new gen for his DD! (still keeping my old gen cars though)

Nice find Shawn! Few of us Jeff, Phil, & Tom (tomsbrats) came back to my place and had a quick BBQ and hung out....of course Jeff's XT6 is still sitting in front of my house now (and he left with Phil in his RX) ...Sorry Jeff had to say it. Anyways I didn't take but 4 pics...yea was blabing too much and they are all of the old school group. Was great to see such a turn out. We had 5 Lifted rigs next to eachother before Yeti took off (and I didn't get a pic before that)...and 3 count them...3 Gen 1 Brats! Was a good show for the old school! Here's my crappy pics (if you look close that red lifted hatch is the one Jerry has been hiding from the board forever!):

This months Colorado Meet 3/25/07 10:00AM at Red Rocks
Aye this might be one of the show's where almost all of us regular members show! How many were planning on going the drive/beau jo's afterwards? From a few people I talked to, including myself were planning on not going.....weather supposed to be good and few people might be coming back to my place to look at the parts RX (Jon & Phil)....................................... So do we want to just make an USMB BBQ afterwards?? Would have to be bring your own stuff + stuff to share. Anyone interested? Know it's short notice but what the heck thought I would throw it out there since almost all of us should be there.
-
This months Colorado Meet 3/25/07 10:00AM at Red Rocks
You can swap it with the hood on the parts RX if you want Phil. Pretty sure it's totally straight just rock pitted so could use a good sanding/painting.

Hmm should we caravan Mike since we are the old school Golden guys? Is there even a purpose in caravaning from here?

Mini-Meet while AndyJo is here CO guys?
Yea us CO guys suck at getting together without 3 months notice...and even then. Your welcome to come use my driveway to change your oil Andy, like I said I would at least like to meet ya while your out here. And I can't possibly be too far away from your hotel. Unless an interview or consulting work comes up tomorrow I should be home. I'll PM ya my phone + address Keith

Colorado Coupe photoshoot?
I'm down, actually sounds like a reason for a BBQ again. I'll host again if needed, won't be able to afford to feed everyone..but it could be BYOBS (Bring Your Own BBQ Stuff, sorry still unemployed). My RX might be going under rust surgery during my stint here so it maybe wearing spots of primer . Got any dates in mind Russ?
-
The RS RX runs!
Woot! Hell of a job Phil....is it gonna make the meet on Sunday?

This months Colorado Meet 3/25/07 10:00AM at Red Rocks
Okay I gotta know what happened Jeff??? And if it makes you feel any better everyone does dumb things..for example while I working on straightening the radiator support on that OBW I picked up I somehow decided it would be a good idea to pry against the condensor... Well big hole in what was a perfectly working A/C system now...
-
Mini-Meet while AndyJo is here CO guys?
Hmmm wonder if the Elite auto glass guy I have coming out to my house on Monday to replace the windshield in the OBW and the one in my wife's Legacy $$ would do it real quick.

Mini-Meet while AndyJo is here CO guys?
Colorado members want to get together for a mini meet/BBQ/Bar stop or something while Andy is out here? I'll volunteer my backyard/grill/& of course my special charcoal again if needed, it's pretty much completely uncovered from snow now. I'm pretty much free anytime unless I'm working some freelance, or at an interview. Andy clue us in again on when your free etc...

92 loyale pwr steer problems ???
Don't quote me one this but I believe the way to purge the system of air is just to go lock to lock several times with the steering wheel (at least this is always how I did it) but think it should just do it on it's own. With it being choppy I would think the belt is either slipping, or the pump might be going bad. Is it choppy in the same exact places? Might be in need of a new rack then...I haven't heard of too many people having to replace the rack in these cars though.

This months Colorado Meet 3/25/07 10:00AM at Red Rocks
Is that from the ground to the top? Cause I have that nice spare tire rack on the lifted rig . Sucks though I still have my smaller winter tires on..oh well not looking for bragging rights anyways. Just looking to hang out with some friends and forget about this no job thing for a day.

Resurrecting the Free Wrecked 96' Outback, 5/11 update
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell after losing my job on Thursday, I knew I was going to have a problem with getting this project done without any real income. But I needed to burn off some stress and pound/bend/cut and weld things...so why not this OBW? Aftering getting the important things done like getting my resume updated and out to a few places I went to work on the OBW yesterday and today. Spent alot of time trying to get everything as close to the driver's side shape and measurements. Had a fold in the radiator support I couldn't get out no matter what...so I cut it out and spread it to match measurements off the drivers side, and weld in supports. Pounded out the fender and hood, took care of the airbags/light for now, and reinstalled everything I could + a few things I shouldn't of bothered with yet like the demolished passenger head light but it still works!. At this point I could get a windshield installed and drive it legally...well need to get the passenger side timing cover, a new timing belt, and put it all back together. So with a little patience...didn't have much so alot of pounding, some cutting and welding and it's actually amazing what I turned out with. Not saying it's great, still plan on replacing everything that needs it when I have the money but it looks a hell of alot better than it did . Updated pics in the resurrection site...yesterday and today's work on page 3 Here:http://subaru.kacsh.com/96legacy/Page2.html Look at the pics in the link to really see how good things are turning out. Not bad for a guy who normally doesn't do body work. Structure seems pretty straight now, just need to get fender, hood, headlight, bumper cover, etc... And a sample of course: Night I got it: Today:

Resurrecting the Free Wrecked 96' Outback, 5/11 update
DrKrazy replied to DrKrazy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell now that I got it running, still need to pick up a new timing belt, some cover pieces. I thought I would get to looking at/working on the front end damage to see how bad it really is...or isn't. Pulled off the fender and though it looked bad, after just a few hours of pounding and prying I actually got it pretty straight. Granted I'm no body guy by any means but I think with a little more work I'll be able to throw on a new fender, bumper cover, hood, and do my best with replacing the headlights etc. So guess I'm going to try and fix this car. Biggest hurdles will of course be the airbags, I don't think I would sell the car so maybe I can get blanks someplace and disable the light somehow??? Or maybe I'll get lucky and find some cheap ones and have them installed. Want to fix this car for as cheap as possible! Anyways I updated the page I'm keeping pics of this resurrection on: http://subaru.kacsh.com/96legacy/96legacy.html Little sample of how it's going: Before today: After today: Before: After: Still lots of work to go but hey I think it's worth it, just gotta keep it really cheap!
