  1. Ok my 96' OBW fried an alt today on my way to work...no notice except the stereo turning off, then my speedo and tach stop workng... Luckily I have a yellow top optima in it currently (Thanks Jerry! and yea I know it's supposed to be in the rig but it's just sitting atm) which gave me enough power to get off the highway, sit at a light for a few minutes, and make it to a parking lot before it died. Called wife, had her bring me some tools, swapped it for a new one from the parts store, quick jump and I'm on my way again. Ok so after that whole ordeal was over I noticed that there IS a little battery light symbol on my dash but it doesn't light up before you start the car nor did it light up when my alt died. Guessing the bulb is burned out and probably means I have a few more burned out too and just don't know it. So if someone who know's all their lights are working could snap a pic of your dash for me with all the lights lit up (like before starting) that would be great! I can then compare and see which ones I need to replace before tearing the dash apart to replace the one. By the way I love all my older Roo's just a tad more today for having an actual voltage gauge!
  2. OMG, they actually took pics of our old school cars....heck Phil even got a pimped XT6 compliment on AWDpirates. I got a few pics I'll upload here later (at work now). Got a nice shot of the few of us who went to Sonic afterwards. I don't know about the rest of you...but I'm wishing hardcore today that I would've remember the sun screen yesterday. Burnt to a crisp...
  3. Yea well not everyone can see the beauty of an RX , and your even running those guy's type of engine. I'm sure most of them will laugh at my RX, but I have 10 forward gears and a somewhat modified EA82T that is willing to try hard! Besides I just think of it as a meet with the USMB folks with a hell of a lot more cars around to look at. But at least the old schoolers tend to stand out. So doesn't sound like a BBQ after..lunch someplace then?
  4. I'll make this one, if I didn't would have to shoot myself considering it's basically in my backyard...though this time think I'm going to break the RX out and show all those WRX's their grandfather! Plus the rig has no A/C and it's just been too damn hot, and my OBW would just blend in and you old school guys wouldn't be able to find me Any interest in a small BBQ for the USMB folks afterwards?
  5. Still stuck in Bailey at my parent in laws house for at least a few more hours...:-\ So not sure I'm going to make it but still going to try. If I don't give that paint to Jerry, Phil...and Jerry I'll meet up with ya soon.
  6. Going to try & make it, doing a two B-Day (mine & my wife's father) party in the mountains on Sunday so as long as I get back down in time I'm there. Plus I need like 4-5 new USMB stickers for my multitudes of cars . Though I'll prob show up in lamest of all my cars the OBW so I can haul some stuff back. Which brings me to: Jerry you coming? If so and you got room bring those wheels..I'll bring cash KBD...could you bring the paint for the OBW from Russ for me? Anyone need anything from my stash or parts RX?
  7. Same, right down the way in Golden. Of course I work way up north in Lafayette. Could keep an eye out for me but my daily is a 96' OBW which blends in with the 20 around me at all times. Though I have a few other's in my driveway .
  8. Aye, wise idea and you may want to meet of few members on the way or while your here in CO too...Double check everything and change any fluids that are questionable you should be fine. Plus your coming to one of the major Subaru states . If you want a repeat of what Andy did you can come change your oil in my driveway while it's raining and in the dark before you head back to the east coast .
  9. Wow been awhile and I have done a ton more work to it. But have been busy with the new job and everything else. Good thing is I've been commuting in it about 65 miles a day (not much of it is highway either) and it's been doing fantastic! Okay so since my last update I have done the following: Got the paperwork and have actual plates on it now! Re-did some of the work on the dent below the taillight Replaced the cracked taillight that the dent was under Replaced the Airbags! Replaced the A/C condensor I put hole in and got the A/C recharged :headbang: Pounded out and bondo'd up the quarter panel dent Put some aftermarket driving lights on it (OEM's were just too expensive) Also changed the oil & tranny fluid, put the good bosch wipers on it, and a new air filter Still having a hard time finding a hood and fender in the same colors..so I put a new full front end bra on it (hides a lot of the damage ) It also got a brand new stereo and speakers all around since it's my DD now. Russ mixed me up some paint for it, just gotta grab it from Phil and I can finish the dent repairs My total is now up to a whooping $726.47 into the car (not including the $460 worth of stereo equipment, since it can always move to another car) Newest pics on page 4 of the rebuild photo album @ http://subaru.kacsh.com/96legacy/Page3.html (Ignore the fact the car is filthy, haven't washed it in awhile) And of course some sneek peeks: How the front end looks now The quarter panel repair Far cry from what it was like when I got it!
  10. Hmm well considering the 13th is Mother's Day there is NO way I'm going to make it. Got the wife and my mom to take care of...have fun guys.
  11. Filter hopefully, these are old cars bound to have some junk in the bottom of the tank.
  12. Different mudrat...4x4mudrat is the guy I'm talking about.
  13. I run some extremely wicked WinterForce 235/70's on the rig for winter...no way I'm getting stuck with those tires on it. They are pretty much like the blizzaks though and will wear quickly on dry pavement, which is why I have the M/T's to run during the summer. BFG does make good tires (have the A/T's on my truck) they are decent in the snow, so so on ice, but will give you a much better all year round tire so +1 on those.
  14. Front sensors should be under each fender liner (splash shield) near the front bumper support beams, there is one on each side of my OBW. On my OBW you couldn't miss them considering everything dealing with the airbags is yellow! Should be similar to this (though fender is completely off in this pic):
  15. Ok Gary this is for you and any future people looking for help. For the passenger side airbag, you need to remove the glove box & liner and then looking up you will see this (take the 3 bolts out circled in red): Now on each side of the air bag up near the top of the dash there is 2 screws (each side) that need to be removed, very long phillps head screwdriver is needed. Disconnect the wire (down near the passenger kick panel on my OBW) and push the airbag up through the dash, will come right out. Drop new one in and reverse procedure. Hope that helps someone out there.
  16. Get it fully together and driving Russ...gotta get down here for at least one more meet before you take off back to PNW. Glad to hear that engine did ya good and keeping it stock for the long haul will keep ya safe and solid .
  17. They are rare if considered against other EA82 models...otherwise maybe just mildly rare. Now if it's a Black RX Coupe (and more if it's not an auto) then it what's I would consider pretty rare. Hell there's 2 White RX Coupes' at my house alone, and I know another local member with one, and yet another local member saw 2 sitting by eachother at a local JY just the other day. Would prob be a lot more on the streets but they rust and blow headgaskets...and end up in the graveyard sad as that is to say. I will fully backup what suberdave said..so it's your car and do with it what you want that's what makes it your car.
  18. About time...and should run pretty good that engine only had 160k on it when I pulled it. The real question is does it drive too?
  19. Believe that's Mudrat's Sedan...also the one that inspired me to build my lifted sedan. Lifted sedans rock!
  20. Start my new job on the 30th, so will have to see if weekends are going to be free. Don't see any problems with that date though barring new work schedule. Not sure what car I'll bring, but probably not the lifted rig if there's no point in it have too many other cars that are much more comfortable for drives...
  21. Driver's side was two T30 screws I think, Passenger side was 4 screw, 3 bolts....but looked kinda hard to get to. This guy has done tons before and had it out and back in no time. Probably something that would've taken me at least an hour. I could take a picture of my old passenger side airbag and mark the screws/bolts that had to be taken out if someone is interested.
  22. Okay, well since I was getting differing opionons from the board, dealership, and the local body shop...I said screw it, and instead of waiting for my Bro-in-law to do it. I headed down to the body shop down the street (know a couple of the guys somewhat). Brought a 12-pack with me and lo and behold 20 mins later I had the new airbags installed and working! So while watching here is what I figured out that may or may not help other people as the guy said it varies from year through the legacies/outbacks.: 1. Computer doesn't need to be replaced (on my car), he scanned it and reset it or something. 2. Because my actual sensor up front didn't get squashed he tested it and it was fine (Bonus!). From what he said some use one time use ones, others use a g-force sensor like my car that can be re-used. Before hooking up the airbags he left the scan thing hooked up and tapped on each of sensors hard to make sure they were fine and registering fine on the scan tool. 3. Clock spring, doesn't need to be replaced (unless the airbag damaged it, which it didn't in my case) 4. Ground straps are important! 5. It literally took this guy 15 mins to replace both airbags after all the testing. 6. a 12-pack and being friendly gets you airbags installed! Oh and what set off the airbags? I bought it that way and have been fixing it as my new daily driver: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70916
  23. Ummm the clock spring goes behind the steering wheel airbag to engage it???? I know it goes behind the steering wheel airbag, and my Bro-in-law said it may need to be replaced so I found a kit on ebay with it all. Told ya I didn't know anything about them, except they scare me a tad...
  24. Ok have done tons of searching and not coming up with much. I want to get my 96' OBW totally fixed and have bought another set of airbags/computer/clock spring for it. I have no experience with airbags what so ever, and will have my bro-in-law who used to be a body guy do it. Questions I have (which my bro-in-law doesn't have access to the answers)are: Does the computer need to be replaced or can we just reuse the old one? Is there any special prodcedures that need to happen before/during replacement? Anything to watch out for? Sure someone in our community has done this before or is a body guy with access to the answers.
