  1. swap to an ej22 if you plan to go that far with it. or give up and trash the car by driving it off a cliff. make sure to get footage. (surgeon general warning: the last solution is not recommended by all smart people)
  2. like connie said, unless its not retaining any oil there's no reason to spend the amount of money it takes to fix it. a quart a week is a pretty huge loss of oil but it still beats spending $300+ dollars for some shop to rip you off. my theory: the more you try to fix something the more its gonna break down in the future. that principle seems to be more true if you dont do your own work, because some mech's will go so far as to screw something else up so you bring your car back in (happened twice to me).
  3. alright, sounds good. wish i could get geared up for the moab trip but alas my monetary funds are at a constant low for a while thus my off-road-worthiness-making skills are limited without parts. just for kicks, feel free to post the requirements when you choose the place. thanks, skeet
  4. ...is any of this stuff something a push button hi 4 non-lifted vehicle w/ 26" can do, or is a lift/lockers/dr necessary for the moab trip? am planning a d/r swap but i doubt it will get done too soon. a.k.a. not in winter. just wondering, is the moab thing a separate trip from the original 'family oriented' trip?
  5. heh, howabout spring break? wait a minute, thats just for me. memorial day, perhaps (last monday of may)? or even armed forces day (third sat. in may), there's no way you guys dont celebrate that. MLK day's a little early... flag day's (june 14th) a little late... mother's day (2nd sunday in may) perhaps. you wouldnt happen to celebrate april fools as a holiday, would you?
  6. Just for the record, your lifter noise is probably just the same ticking that every subaru has before the engine is warmed up. completely normal, unless it happens AFTER it is warmed up (ie: starts ticking at any given time/rpm).
  7. ordered somethin from tony (soobme) about 2 weeks ago and he said he would mail it friday the 15th. he hasnt been on the forum since the 12th, im just wondering if anyone knows what happened to him, because it doesnt sound like him to skip out on an order. ive called him and gotten his machine, emailed him at his pirate address, im'ed him, yadda yadda yadda. any ideas? anyone live near him that knows him well? thanks, skeet. (sorry for not putting this in the off topic, needed faster response) EDIT: found him!
  8. wilkommen! say, got any pics of that chopped wagon of yours? sounds like something that would get some good looks driving around.
  9. with a lift youll still have some cutting to do but not much. w/o a lift is not worth attempting. also, think about a lug conversion instead of redrilling. not much more effort (if you can get someone to fab it cheap for you) and if you want different rims you have a lot more choices on what wheels you wish to put on.
  10. heh, give it another mile. itll break. based on experience.
  11. Got clutch replaced at shop(due to lack of time to do it myself). Shop said they replaced the gear oil. Leaked out somewhere (or they lied, most likely to save their as$es). ran on no oil for at least 3 days. day 3 the gears seized and i couldnt shift into gear once in neutral. sucks on major intersections. attempting to throw in reverse resulted in a beautiful grinding symphony. to tell the truth, i dont know if its damaged or not. i gotta shove a new batch of oil down its throat to see if itll ride. if not, .... DDOCFSM. FUBAR. dam it all to hell. \ (Desert Destroyer On Cinderblocks For Six Months) maybe ill even find enough initiative then to pop in a d/r. oh boy. more money loss.
  12. unless its clicking in a straight line the axle's not going to break. dont sweat it, my clicking axles have been at it for almost 1 and a half years. just beware of clicking in a straight line, that's the warning bell.
  13. if you are willing to go through the trouble of installing a manual shifter arm you might be interested in swapping to a d/r trans. not that its completely necessary, and the shifter arm will probably be easier, but should you ever need the extra 4wd power you would have it at your disposal.
  14. not a bad idea, utah's also a good place for trails, but im out of commission for a while with my car, i may be undergoing some major rebuilds soon (tranny, Dshaft, blah blah blah), and i know others are not able to go till at least next year so if we wanted a committee there's no reason i see to get it started in a rush except to get some cool stickers on our cars. which isnt such a bad reason itself. heck, i changed my mind, im fine with one! tell your fiance not to worry, we subaru owners will give our word that we will not be uneducated, lousy loudmouth partyheads. well, at least not this trip. after all, were not driving hondas.
  15. ooh, im in. definitely in. so lemme get this straight, you have to do everything on your own? what if i need to film someone else driving a car, or i get someone to help with visual editing? am i disqualified?
  16. i like the idea of grand canyon. anyone familiar with the phoenix area at all? we could trail ride all day and either camp out (what i prefer to do, maybe next to the river so i can fish) or drive back to town for some partying. or perhaps both. any ideas on how long the meet should be for? for some this trip would be a day's worth of driving, so im vouching for at least a weekend. sweet82: once i get my car fixed (tons o' problems as of late... started with not having gear oil in da tranny. not my fault, the shop's) i'll be tearing up zion NP and friends with my diamondback perrty soon. i got a place up in cedar city to stay so ive made the trip a hundred times. heh, while were in the organizing mood, why dont we get a bike run going...
  17. and the burnout marks, too! hmm, maybe its time for me to go rwd soon and postpone the axle transplant. wait, cant, gotta get the friggin driveshaft fixed. of course, like clockwork, there's always something to be fixed.
  18. nix on the independent, he swapped the whole solid toyota axles on to his monster. want it? hes got it for sale in the marketplace. and it actually works, too.
  19. maxbrat: may i suggest to wait till your at least 18 to have a 'civilization celebration' in vegas, for more than just the obvious reason (clubs)... curfew for minors is 7:00 pm on the strip. i guess end of june would be best for nearly everyone interested, so may this topic come back up nearer to then. until then, adieu.
  20. sounds an awful lot like a u-joint; noise while accelerating but not while in neutral. easy change on your ea81 wagon, since they actually come off the driveshaft. for ea82's you have to put in a whole new d-shaft. have you stuck it in 4wd? if not, i wouldnt recommend it until you get it changed out. 2 cents. cha-ching. the clickig-while-turning noise was definitely cv axle problems.
  21. jared did a t-case on his ea81 i believe. check out his mod list @ his site westcoaststompers .c o m.
  22. nope... but i hope to be fitting em on my 93 loy in about a week or so. ask s'ko about them, he drilled them for me and fit them on his brat (2 of them at least).
