  1. so i spend a bit of time in NYC and my trick is to do this 1. turn wheels to full lock and let the catch set 2. set brake, leave in gear 3. big red sign that says car has AWD and damage WILL occur if towed yes my car has been towed like this but they have to put dollies under the front wheels(becouse they are turned to lock) so this gets me towed with out damage if they slim jim the door they are fully responsible for all damages (according to NYC law I believe but dont quote me on that) i know here in town (central va) the sign is enough, they will not tow it here, fear of lawsuit
  2. do it, im dying to know why o why would they want that for that i just dont understand i can buy them here for 500 all day long in that condition and sell them for 4500 too, fixed, all day long i got a real good market for subarus
  3. enjoy n'awlins its my hometown and your right they aint many soobs down there but i would find the 2.2, if you find a 2.5 its likely to blow its gaskets the 2.2 in a 96 legacy with less than 200k is the perfect no headache buy as long as its had decent maintenece
  4. 03 and 04 are prefered for that body style 06 and 07 are the next body prefered 02 and 05 both have MINOR issues not really worth avoiding but if buying a wrx you should drive it and make shore it shifts right, and doesnt do anything funny
  5. this is a perfect car for me i got 2.2 and 2.5 ready to go but 1900 is way to much im good for about 750 after that its sucker zone
  6. they can HOWL if the airbox is not fully snaped shut might want to check that out if the top of the airbox is not COMPLETELY snug on the bottom or you use a K&N filter then you will hear a nice deep howling, especially inder heavy accel most subarus have a "slight" knocking not all but most hope that helps but also your description is kinda of vague can you describe the sound better
  7. i was at the JY today and the yard truck(80's chevy 350) had 489k showing on the odometer
  8. i would not do all that if there are no issues of course get a valve job and seals done and have the heads deck for flatness but i would spend my money on a little porting instead of new valves and guides the machinist that does the valve job should let you know if any more serious work is needed but i havent run into any that NEEDED that much my 2 cents but the price quoted aint bad for that kind of work
  9. so i swaped the TCU and got shifting and AWD back but now the light is flashing at me again allways something
  10. fair enough i just swaped the tcu in my trouble car and got shifting and AWD back but now i got the flashing tcu LIGHt allways something
  11. first of john needs to chill bit aggresive there with the "DUHS" not every one here gets this chit but let me add my 2cents i know limp mode is 3rd, i am surprised nipper didnt add that i bet when you unhook the tcu u get third and reverse+AWD you get this when the tcu fails, wiring fails, or the trans has a bad issue with tcu disconected the FUSE is useless i think with that xt6 tranny you might want to try a different tcu for chits and giggles but i think nipper is right about the pump im going to test some of the theries brought up here today i have a trans job im working right now and it is haveing fun issues (stuck in first+awd) so im up for trying anythig
  12. i actually have never seen a straight head when replacing the HG i have every set milled flat on CBN(nice finish) has anybody seen a warped block???
  13. but the gaskets are EXTREMELY similar arnt they anybody have some laying around i have cometic phase ones on the bench but no phase 2 i could run out to the dealer thursday and buy one but it would get wasted, i only run cometics now i have had the dealer gasket fail
  14. thanks for all the info and general, you have fun with that incar chit as far as more demanding ever worked on a horsehead v-8, not much fun there these subarus are simple and very forgiving just not the 2.5
  15. porc thanks first thing in the mornign and ill run down that list see what i come up with
  16. no i do not have add both cars were 96 model years i do not use the trans that was in the car becouse the part number said it was a 92 model year trans, and it didnt have 4wd
  17. but that doesnt answer the real question why the heck do these damn 2.5's love blowing HG's any body know excactly what the flaw is i know its the HG but the 2.5 is real sesitive a little rad troubles and she blows her HG bad WP, blown HG pretty much anything will couse a 2.5 to blow even with updated OE gaskets ive stated using cometics we shall see.......
  18. well my buick doesnt have a tcu so you dont need one, but i dont know what out tcus do i would hope they do something 96 legacy l 2.2
