Get an 05 Forester XS. That sould do it. Run synthtic everything. Keep the gas tank full (use that anti-water treatment) block heater, battery heater...butt heater. Keep it in a garage when possible. Some nice tire chains, road flares, signal flares, MRE's, lots or water, Extra clothes, blankets, maybe a cord or 2 of fire wood, a shovel, some road salt. A generator...LOL (if you get a small enough one) and a space heater. I would get some (4) of those magnetic LED signal flares from Sam's warehouse too. A nextel with GPS capabilities. A GPS so you can give someone you exact location...maybe even one of those Marine GPS homing beacons. (You activate it when you get into tough times and they last a long time) Hope this helps. I don't think you would have to worry about the radiator too much because the fans will only turn on when the engine reaches a certain temp, chances are you won't get there. I wold put in a new T. Stat with a higher opening point. Instaed of 185 perhaps 200. (or something along that line)

The 2.2 is a very peppy engine. Mine has 235.5K on it and it has only had a new waterpump, ALT, timing belt, and some oils seals. If you take care of it mechanicaly it will last a good long time. I believe you had a gen I 2.5 which are known for headgasket failure. Maybe you could switch up to a gen II 2.5. I hear they are much more stable. So now the question to ask is..What year started the 2.5, what changes were made, will it swap in without mods, how much are they and where can he get one. Hope this helped in someway. Dissclaimer: Correct me if I am wrong.

If you buy a subaru OEM alarm or keyless entry, they are pretty much plug and play. Just as long as the system was made for your vehicle (OB, legacy, imprezza, baha....) Look on Ebay. I see them going pretty cheap all the time. Some are used some are new. All pretty cheap. Does anyone know if they offered KE for the 90 legacy?

I run Gastrol GTX synthblend it seems to have quited the engine up nicely and it is just an all around good blend. I have 235.5K and I don't notice anything "oozing" as far as I can tell. I saw a valve like that at wal-mart not too long ago. I too was concerned about hitting something while driving and knocking it off. They should do some real world testing on it. I guess it would be fine if you had a skidplate or something along that line to protect it.

My 1990 legacy wagon has been having this issue lately. Something to do with exhaust? It is slow off the line, slams into second pretty hard sometimes, and hesitates sometimes before going into third. I gutted the cat a while back and I need an o2 sensor because mine is dead. (CEL, unplugged it) Does this sound like a back pressure (power) issue or a tranny issue? Like I said it is slow off the line but if I gun it or am on the highway it FLYS! I miss my perfromance. I installed new plugs (NGK V-powers) and some OEM wires. I changed the oil over to Castrol GTX blend and I have been using redline fuel treatment every now and then to clean her out. Please advise. (I know the tranny slamming gears is a tranny problem) How many quarts does it hold? Which tranny filter should I buy? I have the AWD auto tranny is this the 4EAT? It does all the mentioned things regardless of weither it is in AWD or FWD.

They are all fun to drive. I love my wagon and wouldn't trade it for the world. Subaru wagons break the "boring grocery getter" mold. You know you liked the lines of the wagon. I think the new leagacys look like BMW's from the headlights. Get the wagon. Tons of room, great gas milage....and it's a Roo so you know it will last forever. Alot longer than that farfignugen thing you were driving. Subaru...driven by whats inside!

Just to be on the safe side call (or go online) a DMV or wherever they tag vehicles in that state and ask if they have trip tags. Don't say you want a temp tag. Tell them your situation and see what they have available. I have done it for people that flew in to purchase an RV or vehicle from me. Just for peace of mind I sent an e-mail to the MA DMV requesting info. I will lt you know my findings ASAP.

It all depends. Does you policy cover rental? If so get one. If not push them for one. You are going to be without your car for a while. The car isn't totaled? Are you sure they won't total it out? Is the dealer going to do the repairs? All things to consider. Glad to hear your wife is ok. I tried to throw mine under the wheels of a semi but she wouldn't let go of me. Guess I have to keep her.

A word to the wise from soeone who has bought and sold hundreds of cars....Don't put a tag on the car at all on the drive back! IT is better to have no tag on it than to have a false tag. You could get a nice big ticket for that. Just make sure you add the vehicle to your insurance before you leave and keep a copy of the policy with you. Also, most states will let you purchase a "trip tag" at the DMV near where you are purchasing the vehicle. It only cost a few dollars and is good for about a week or so. I would look into that if I were you. Hope this helps.

Good luck getting a wiring diagram for that DIN plug. I think you are better off using the LLC. If you wish to run your PS2's audio out into your stereo, you might want to reconsider your head unit. I just bought a Panasonic MP3/CD/Sirius setup with remote for $125.00 and it has ext input for an additional audio source. If you do not want to go this route you could get an A/B switch from the shack that controls Audio components and use this to switch from the output of your deck to the output of your PS2. You would be left with a volumn (gain) dilema but this could be remedied with volume knob switches from the scack with some phono (RCA) ends attached to control the left and right channels. OR...You could buy an amp with a remote gain control that mounts to the dash and you could control the gain (volume) from the dash for the amp. I am just assuming you will be running an amp to power ALL your speakers. You could run 2 amps. (1) 4 channel amp for your mids and highs and (1) mono or stereo am with crossover for your lows (subs). I could go for a sub right now. A philly cheesesteak... What was I saying? Oh yeah....keep me informed and I will help you anyway I can.

A word to the wise. Go to your nearest Subaru dealer, spend the extra cash, get an OEM Stat and make sure it is put in facing the correct way. You will not believe how many times these things are put in wrong. While you are at the dealer have a tech show you which is the correct way. This should help.
