  1. If it was my doing the timing belt I would do the water pump and the oil pump seals while I had it apart. Not to mention the pulleys. I know it seems like a bit much but these are all parts that tend to fail down the road. Did I mention a timing belt tensioner too?? Hope this helps.
  2. The DIN connector is used for the optional CD player ONLY. If you want the converter just shoot me and e-mail and I will send it to you. It is easy to install.
  3. I took my scissor jack out of the car and put my 2-ton hydro jack/2-jackstand combo in the molded case combo that I bought at harbor freight for $30.00 There is no reason why someone should put their lives at risk just because you don't want to drop $30.00 on a jack and jackstands. I see ads in newspapers and fliers for the local parts store having the same combo for about $30.00. I also have a set of ramps in the garage but thats for all the "wheels-on" stuff. Sorry if I come off like an arse...safety is job 1.
  4. Lucas is good stuff. I used to use it in a trany that was going bad and I must say it gave me a couple thousand extra miles.
  5. If it was me I would take my Subaru to the only people I trust in Colorado to work on Subarus (and where they sell them) and that would be Burt Subaru in Englewood on Broadway. I'm sure you have seen their name on the back of many Roos. Mine included.... Give them a call at 303-789-6400 or on the web at www.burtsubaru.com They should pay me for that. I hope it helps.
  6. I would check the bearings and CV joints. Maybe you got something in either one. I am sure someone else will chime in if I a wrong. Check back.
  7. Hi Jared, Let me start off by saying "congrats" on that subway diet. On to your question. The instrument cluster does come out. just stare at it long enough and you will figure out what it takes to get it done. I am sure some 10mm and a phillips head will get her done. As for the colored lights, check ebay or your local parts store. You may even want to try a high performance (rice burner tuner) shop as all those fast and furious types like to do stuff like that. Hope that helps. (J/K on the diet thing please don't take any of us too serious)
  8. Just do what I did and gut the cat. WAIT! I forgot it makes it sound like a tin can full of rocks. Don't do that. Good luck with the cat situation. You might have sticking valves. Change your oil and use a good fuel treatment for the next three tankfulls and use something like X1R in your oil.
  9. If you believe it is the relay you could have someone turn the key and listen for the clicking of the relay. If there is more than one relay just stick your finger on each one of them and repeat the process untill you find wich one is clicking. You could replace it and then go from there. Intermitent starting is the sign of a bad selenoid or bushings in the starter. Take it to your local auto parts store to have it tested. They will be able to give you a solid yes or no as to weither it is bad or not. Hope this helps.
  10. On the high mileage subaru website, it says that if you have had any major repair work done (ie..rebuilt, new block) your Subaru is not a true high miler. It makes sense. If my engine kicked the bucket at 290K and I dropped a fresh out of the crate EJ22 into it I could drive another 300K plus. It is my personal opinion that the milage should only count as far as the engine and tranny. If we all judged by the miles on the body then I know of alot of kenworth, peterbuilt and MAC trucks that would be sitting in the bone yard. Not to mention planes and trains. You know what they say..."Opinions are like ________, everyone has one."
  11. Welcome to Subaru. It is like people are Subaru virgins untill thay make that mistake....or do their own timing belt.
  12. Sounds like you have an electronic (not cable driven) speedo. I would take it to the dealer and have them tell you what is wrong with it. Most Speedo jobs are not DIY because as a civilian, we do not have the recalibrating knowledge or equipment. Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
  13. I hate to beat a dead horse but please for the love of god get some jackstands. I do not want to go to a funeral for a fallen subaru lover. Find your nearest Harbour freight and get a set. They usually come with a nice hydraulic jack too....it's about $30.00 and it is in a nice case. Throw away your scissor jack and keep that in your trunk please. Hope your roo recovers just as fast and as well as you. Glad to see nobody was seriously hurt.
  14. Welcome to the board BIG DADDY. Glad to have you on board. Don't you know someone who could do the work for alot less? If I was there I would buy your car from you in a heartbeat. That is a really nice car. I wish mine had a CD player and heated seats. I am dropping a grand on a 93 Legacy wagon in the next two weeks. It has 140K and it is a stick shift. It's really nice. Give me a holler if you have any questions.
  15. I do not know how much wrench turning skills you have under your belt but if it was me I would go on ebay, find me a newer engine that has a warranty (or from someone that has mucho feedback), get it tested when you recieve it and take a day and install that bad boy. It's a 99 and by my standards thats still a new car considering I drive a 90 with 235K on it. It has the 2.2 and I am assuming you have the 2.5 because they are know for HG problems.
  16. It is basically a volume control. No matter how much you crank it up, it keeps it a a lower level that will not toast the line level inputs on an amp or EQ. I actually found one (very expensive one from when I was an installer) in my garage. You can have it if you pay the shipping. Shoot me an e-mail and we can set something up. Hope this helps.
  17. 235K on my 90 legacy wagon and I am buying a 93 wagon with 140K on it next week. Water pump, oil pump seal and timing belt were only things ever major replaced. ALT too.
  18. I do not believe they make a hidden hitch for the 90-99 legacy including outback. I have many fruitless searches to support that.
  19. Here is what I have for the wiring diagram. This is copied as I saw it out of my 90 legacy wagon. Most of it is wired up to the drivers side light and only one wire goes to the passengers side. Harness color Car Color Brown -------------------- Red Red------------------------Red/yellow Yellow---------------------Green/black White----------------------Ground (body) Green----------------------White/red (pass side panel) Hope this helps. If I was there I would do it for you for free. Give me a holler if you have any more questions.
