Clutch release problems
you could also be having problems with a kinked cable.i encountered this after putting a new one in and realizing that i had not fastened it all the way,and it destroyed the cable as well as my left calf. i had a hard time getting it proper the next time , but i took out my seat to install it. also check the release bearing for stiffness on the shaft.mine was also pretty rough.clean everything up and install a new one.

difference in flywheels
anyone know the difference between ea-82 and ea-81 flywheels?i obviously don't so when i was looking at the few i have in my garage they all looked the same, but out of the three the ea-82 clutch pressure plate fit all of them.i know i do not have three ea-82 flywheels so,i need to figure out the difference.thanks, brian

Found The Clunk!!!!!!!UPDATE..
well, i don't know how i could enlighten you on it.......i have had a serious clunk on acceleration and most stops for quite a while now.i replaced all bushings on and mounts on the front end and it would not go away.shawn suggested that it was the backlash in my tranny not being adjusted properly .the only way to tell if it was as diagnosed i wiggled my stub axles with my cv's on and there was way to much movement.so the deduction was that yes the pinion gear was moving around in there and yes it was getting worse over the coarse of time.

engine/tranny swap... '84 Brat
check your e-brake lever on the caliper for the right side.....mine was rusted all to hell.....and almost killed me when i thought i had it unstuck:banghead: not like your a newb, but that fix for slop in the shifter is in the usrm now,it has pics ,so it might help you decide what is up. remember , it's just an ea-81,i know you've danced all around with a 71 and 82 of the ea's.........just like anything else.
