  1. But there are 5-speed AWD's right? Silly question I know, but I just see sooooo many auto AWD Legacy cars.
  2. Where the early Legacy wagons available in an AWD, or 4WD, 5-speed configuration?? Thanks
  3. I got it! After tracing all the wires, checking all the connections, checking voltage everywhere, I found the problem, bad relays. Probably just one, but I replaced both. Interesting thing, I went to the parts store to get some, and they crosed the number on the old relays to a new one that cost $9.99 each. Out on the shelf, unknown to the counterperson, where two Pilot brand, driving light replacement relays for $3.69 each, that where the same configuration, but where 30 amp, instead of the stock 22 amp. Fixed it, and modified it for less than half the price! Later
  4. I was about to go get my 86 hatch inspected, and I noticed something odd. The right side headlights work great, but the left side, and the taillights are dim, very dim. Like they are not getting full voltage. I have'nt had a chance to get to involved, but the left headlights were only getting 4-6 volts. The right side was getting 8-9 volts. I pulled a tailight and the filiment was barely red, I thought it was blown when I first looked at it. And you cannot see anything thru the lense.Blinkers and brake lights are fine. I'll break out the wiring diagrams tomorrow. Anyone seen this before?
  5. Well, I am starting to think that the tranny oil light came on because the car had shut down in gear, while moving. There isn't anything on this circuit for the tranny. I'll know more tomorrow, I hope the man finds it, I have tooooo many thinge to fix right now! My hatchback needs attention, my motorcycle needs re-jetting, girlfriends Jeep needs a stereo install, her brother just gave her a 4 wheeler that doesn't run!, and my lowrider needs new shocks!
  6. Well, I'm only picking up bits and pieces from the mechanic, but the components I listed earlier are powered from the circuit the SBF protects. He did mention changing the alternator in a guess/hope that it would be the problem. If it doesn't act up by monday, and we get it back, I may try that.
  7. With the exeption of fusing each individual component, the mechanic did all that you mentioned. She took it in hoping it would be an easy find or a common, known problem. If he can't get it to act up over the weekend, she's getting it back, and then it's my turn. I believe he said some of the main components are the fuel pump, purge canister, injectors, and Air idle control solonoid. I want to lean towards the air idle control solonoid, but he dismissed it. Time will tell.
  8. Ok, The car has blown the fuse once more, 202 miles after I posted before. I had gotten some wiring diagrams but they really didn't help me much. She took it to a local import mechanic, a subaru wiz, and the best import guy around here, and it has him baffled. He has had it foralmost two weeks, tested every component in the circuit(s), exposed every wire, check every inch of it, checked the connections, and has had it on diagnostic equipent more times than he'll admit, and nothing. The circuit only pulls 18 amps MAX, but something, somewhere is causing a spike and blowing the fuse. Without blindly replacing parts, we're at a stand still. As the mechanic put it, "this is one for the books". I'll keep you posted.
  9. Didn't the EA81 get bigger valves in 84? What year did they change to hydraulic lifters??
  10. I am considering a new carpet for my 86 hatch, but can't seem to find a good(cheap) source. Any ideas??
  11. I believe the manual tranny, front and rear diff take 80W90 gear oil. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
  12. Wow, that's the twin of mine! Even has the matching hole in the floor!! Try adjusting the clutch cable, and changing the gear oil in the tranny. Substitute 1 quart with Rislone, available at Wal-Mart or any chain parts store. Yellow bottle, it will clean the synchros. It may not fix the problem, but it's worth a try and cheaper than a gear box!
  13. You could always graft a front suspension and rack in the rear for the zero turn!! Maybe mount a hydraulic motor on the rack to power it and run that off the ps pump?? A variable pressure lever between the seats next to the hand brake?? hhhhhmmmm
  14. Has anyone here had success with swapping the EA82 maniold on the EA81 engine?? I remembered discussion about the swap as I was replacing the manifold gaskets on my hatch today.
  15. Actually, it was less! I ordered them on Wednsday evening, and they were on my porch Friday when I came home from work at 5. I'd call them if I were you.
  16. If I remember correctly, to do the suspension swap on an XT using Loyale struts, you need the 2WD struts on the front, and 4WD struts on the rear to get the car to sit properly.
  17. Get yourself a small air tank, like a 5 gallon to take acrossed town. And you can always do what others have done, blow compressed air right up that fuel line into the tank(cap off) and blow that filter sock to pieces! I would imagine that it would be better to do this with as little amount of fuel in the tank as possible, then let the fuel run out into a catch can so the debris doesn't clog up the rest off the system. It isn't the "right way", but it may get the car home where you can drop the tank and clean it properly.
  18. I ordered a set of these snow tires from Barre Tire after seeing the post above. I just got them (2 1/2 days from Vermont to VA, not bad). I haven't put them on yet but they look good. Deep lugs. http://www.barretire.com/wintertires.htm
  19. Dave, your awesome! That's what this site is all about man, sharing the info and playing for the team. I'm looking foward to the info, hopefully I will do the swap this summer, or your winter, HA!
  20. I would just like a template. Made out of stiff paper so I can transfer it to the metal. And I'd pay for it too! How crazy is that?? I can use the shop I work at to cut it, that's no bother.
  21. Does it flicker at sea level, or only in the high elevations? I had an 86 3 door that would flicker a bit when I went to the top of the mountains here in VA, and it was only 1500, maybe 1800 ft!! Only on the mountains too.
  22. I just pulled one off of my 90 wagon, it's the complete directional, headlight, and wiper switch on the column. It looks just like the one on my mothers' 2000 outback limited. Is it the same? What do these things usually cost? Thanks
