Old School NOOB!!!! :-)
A FWD Loyale 5 spd gets fantastic gas mileage..I get 34-38 city and 42+ highway with my wagon. As for reliable...I have never owned a better car then my current 92 Loyale wagon with 197,000 miles..I bought him 3 years ago for $600 and he has NEVER let me sit..had his quirkie moments but they all do. As for winter driving..I run snow treads on the front and have never been stuck or had any problems. I dont know much about the Legacys except that the 2.5 have head issues and at older AT are prone to failure..but thats not from personal experience just what I have heard. Good luck with either choice. Both have thier ups and downs its what suits you better.

Old School NOOB!!!! :-)
Hey..if you want to take a drive next Sat..bring it up here to New Milford CT..I am having a cookout around 1 and 1/we could take a look at it. ( Going to have some very knowledgeable old school people here). I have plenty of extra parts for it...it is sweet.! I love my 92 Loyale FWD..but I have 197,000 miles on it..runs like a champ though. Showed it last weekend at Marcus Dairy with a bunch of WRX people from NASIOC. Sometimes low mileage is more damaging then high mileage on these motors.Would love to take a look at it....plus I want to drool over it:slobber: check out my CT cookout thread in meet and greet

How long should clutch last?
I just changed my clutch in my Loyale FWD back in Sept....It wasnt totally bad yet( didnt slip one bit but did shutter in certain gears) but it had 193,000 miles on it. But this all depends on how you drive it

Help.... T.O.D. (Update..High RPM Past Red Line = Quick Fix)
Gee..I have been driving my Loyale for 3 years with TOD..Its very common and normal for these cars. And it doesnt hurt anything..you will probably do more damage redlining it then just letting them quiet up by driving it normally..BTW.How long did it sit? Did you change the oil and filter yet? Mine startsto tick bad after about the 4th month on the oil ( I dont put many miles an my car...just changed my oil ..last time done was in Sept and it just hit the 3000 mile mark). Try that simple fix first before getting all .."Its going to the junk yard";)

Air Bags, not Air Suspension ones. . .
These older Subarus are pretty tough...the only way you are going to eat your steering wheel is if you are in a serious head on..or you arent wearing your seat belt..plain and simple..and if you are wearing your seatbelt and are in a serious head on ..hard enough for you to still eat your steering wheel ..even an airbag isnt going to help you much..A perfect example on how tough these cars are is the one girl here on the board had a BEAUTIFUL Gen1 brat..got broadsided or something...rolled a few times..Brat was totalled..she is still with us..and if you saw the pics of the Brat you couldnt understand how she survived. Airbags are a pain..and if you ever have one go off...if the car is repairable its costs a fortune to replace.

CT Cookout..Who wants one?
OK so we on for Aug 5th...cool!! Great I guess now I should do some yard work:brow: ..Looks like a mini MX track right now ( We have kinda been "playing" with the bikes in the yard...when someone asks I say we are "airating" the lawn). Bring whatever you guys want just let me know so I can plan around...going to do the usual burgers,dogs,sausages....maybe we can sweet talk Dave into flaming bananas and her wonder corn;) ;) Let me know what you guys want to drink etc. Directions are pretty simple: 84 east to exit 7 north ( RT7 to New Milford,Brookfield) 4.7 miles you will come to a light...turn right..you will still be on RT7/202..7.2 miles...this is alot of single lane, construction mess and can sometimes have small delays...road will widen again and you will pass a Home Depot...then it will narrow again ..when it widens again (there will be a liquor store on your right) stay in right lane. On the right is a crappy Chrysler Dealer..just past the dealer turn right and go across the big grey bridge (Bridge Street). Immediately on the other side of the bridge ,turn left onto Youngs Field Road..road will run parallel to the river.( there are ball fields and kinda a industrial park on the road) At first stop sign (just past Agway) turn right onto Aspetuck Ridge Road. Go 1.3 miles to number 174 on right (Blue Ranch House on the corner of Aspetuck and Sand).Basicall you will pass a tennis court on the left..then some construction on the left.. then start looking on the right...I am just past a good turn. I have big numbers on my mail box but I will put something out at the road .

?how to clean the front bumper?
There used to be a product you could get at the major auto parts stores called "Black Again" It had a black dye in it and helps turn those greying areas back to black..you usually could get a good month before you would have to reapply. I used it religiously on my VW Karman Ghia and my old Mustangs. I think its still on the market
