  1. I think I fixed it. It may have been a barely loose plug wire. I'd been in there the week before taking off an underdrive pulley (2MPG!), and bumped it....unless it just needed me to open the hood and say "boo!"
  2. Nipper - I tried the D3 and it's still there, but not as noticeable as when the car is loafing along in OD @ 35-40 mph. Also, at idle the car shakes a bit - not like it's going to die or anything's going to shake loose. But it's definitely not a smooth idle. But the rpms change very little if @ all @ idle.
  3. Noahdl88 - Yes, part throttle is when it occurs. Driving city streets @ 30-40 is most noticeable; also @ freeway - 65-75. If the TC were engaging/disengaing wouldn't the rpms change, too? If it were the solenoid is that in the tranny? Also, at idle the car shakes a bit - not like it's going to die or anything's going to shake loose. But it's definitely not a smooth idle. 4. 97 OB 140k (Head gasket @ 125K) - mild surging @ 30-40 mph; just noticeable @ cruising speeds - 65-75 mph. Could it be the TC going bad? O2 sensors are both replaced; cleaned throttle body, but not the deep cleaning via the vacuum hose. Plugs are good. IAC? TPS? Thanks
  5. I had PO420 code - Catalyst-related - removing the negative terminal didn't reset it. I had to use the free Autozone reader to "Erase" it. Is there a more thorough way to reset?
  6. My 97OB had a similar erratic idle. I replaced the front O2 sensor to fix. There were no codes. I suspected the O2 as I'd bought some cheapies off ebay a few months earlier. No help here on the electrical gremlins or the differential.
  7. The '95 is gone ('97 OB now) along w/the receipt for the repair. But it wasn't a pump...i want to say it was a "clutch" in the tranny, but doesn't sound quite right. Torque bind was also fixed w/the repair. Also, I lost reverse after having the tranny flushed. The shop was/is pretty cool...small w/3-4 mechs that know their stuff, and don't sell you what you don't need.
  8. I also had the same issue on a '95 Legacy wagon - no reverse-went forward fine. $900 to fix....and I'm totally drawing a blank on what they replaced. Somewhere on USMB is a fairly good description of a DIY replacement. Here's some more info: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48411&highlight=replace+legacy+trans
  9. Just did both on my 97OB, which spent time in PA (according to Carfax). They came out easy w/my 7/8'' wrench. Toughest part was making sure I didn't cross-thread it on the install.
  10. Plz confirm that this mounts on top of the rear hatch on the station wagon. Thanks
  11. E7210AS001SB Spoiler-SW, Sydney Blue Legacy '95-'99 $77.00 Still available? Does this come w/mounting HW and instructions?Thanks
  12. Symptoms: Oily smell in coolant; black stuff floating in coolant tank; extra steam out the exhaust pipe. But No change in temp gauge. 125K on 97 OB. Need a mechanic in my area to get this done. Not w/in my skill set. Thanks!
  13. Our Co. has an '03 Forester w/AT and we're getting 26+MPG...on the winter gas.
  14. Related, but not helpful, question, please. I'm trying to put the 6 CD Changer in my 97 OB from another 97 OB. It comes w/a tray that the changer attaches to that's got me baffled on its install. Mines a base-model OB, and the one I bought (off ebait) could've been a LTD w/leather/better seats. Any pointers on getting that tray installed? Thanks.
  15. Found this cheap UD pulley for my 97 OB on eBait, and bought it: Item # 8020647279 (for example) I've read many posts about the downsides of running an underdrive, and since my driving is 90% freeway, I should have no charging issues, but what about quality? You get what you pay for...but what am I risking? Install was really easy, in fact I had no issues gettting the old pulley off. I'm guessing that was due to the timing belt being changed in the last year.
  16. Looked around the site but didn't/couldn't find anything specific to this question: What is the the desired voltage on the TPS of the EJ25 in a '97 OB? From a previous vehicle (NOT a Subie) this could be adjusted to .75v to improve throttle response.
  17. '97 OB Wagon. Car is 2 weeks new to me. Should there be ANY binding when turning @ low speeds? There's no noises, but definitely feel something hanging on when making a medium-to-hard right or left turn.
  18. Hello, New to the forum....My 104K mile subie goes forward fine, but reverse is the same as Neutral. This occurred after a tranny flush- Reverse worked for a couple days, but is completey gone now. It either worked or not at all...there isn't/wasn't any slipping. I've read posts about no reverse causes: control valve, solenoid. After having 2 diagnoses - independent and AAMCO- told basically the same thing: rebuild time. The indie shop said they could repair the "drum (?)" for $975- rebuild (includes TC) is $1500. AAMCO wants $1800 to start...rebuild would obviously be even more. Thanks for all the info on this site.
